i am beginner to Linux, i have svn server installed in redhat 5 till now every thing is working fine now i need help from all of you to set up svn backup with email authentication. i need conformation of when it is backup and is the backup don perfect or not. can anyone give me guidelines how to setup (Step by step)

I managed somehow to create a script to make some backup of files on server and TAR it and then FTP the archive to another location FTP server and then emails result.
It also measures time needed to complete it and deletes archive older than XX days (set in find -mtime +20) and makes incremental backup every weekday and FULL on Sundays (which suits me bcoz no heavy load).
Files for TAR to include and exclude are in txt files listed each line separate name:

I want to make a backup from my Email and my Favorites from Mozilla.
But which folders I have to make a backup from.
I'm trying to set up a tool that emails me periodically (in my case, psad). It allows by default to define just a destination email for reports. Is there a general way to get this or similar tools to use a non-default SMTP server, with TLS? (e.g. gmail's SMTP)
View 1 Replies View RelatedI come from more of a programming background but have been giving the task of sending backup results from a linux box in an email to external email addresses, I have spent days looking trough google for info but cant seem to find anything simple, I have looked at postfix but because I don't understand networks, hosts, nameservers etc. What I need to do to allow mail get sent from the linux box to external mail address. I have outlook connected to an exchange server on windows and I can ping the linux box from my windows command so surely it cant be to much involved.

1-- know that the drive they are backing up is < 800GB (lto4)
2-- they do not get a completion emails and the think to walk to the basement and see the request for a second tape.

I have ubuntu9.10 installed inside windows Thunderbird works ok in windows. When i try to get my email in ubuntu9.10 i get this message. server responded authentication failed.

Now the problem..i have a automated mailer that does not have the option to authenticate. is there a way to allow a certain email address or the local network to send out without authentication? If i cannot do this for a single email user to allow them through with authentication, how would i remove the authentication paramaters in the postfix smtp..

I'm amazed I couldn't find anything in my searches on this specifically.What I want is to go from a Gentoo rescue CD to a restored system as easily as possible.I tried rsync over gmailfs but that just froze. View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently reinstalled my computer with new hard drives and Ubuntu 10.10 (AMD64). Before the switch I used the 'Backup' function in Evolution to backup all my email and email settings -- I thought! The backup file was big (300 MB) so I didn't double-check how big it should have been.
After the reinstall I restored the backup and Evolution seemed to be working fine, i.e., I could see all the new email in my IMAP mailbox. Also, my local Contacts were all there, as expected. But eventually I tried locating an old email which I had saved to a sub-folder under the 'Local' Inbox and realized that there was nothing there! Fortunately I still had my old hard-drive and so I was able to recover the additional 400 MB of old emails. Shouldn't the 'Backup' function include the entire Evolution profile including any/all 'Local' settings?
I have recently been asked by my boss to implement Email alerts on some Backup scripts to be sent to me and another person. I edited one of the Backup scripts on a mail server and they appear to be working without problems (i.e., the backup job runs successfully and I get told so via E-Mail). However, when I implemented this script onto another, non-mail server, it would not send E-Mail confirmations. The only server that is allowed to send Emails to the outside world is the mail server, so I did not expect the script to work without any fine-tuning.
However, I thought I could direct the non-mail server to send an E-Mail through the mail server. I just can't find out how to do it. The servers are running Ubuntu 9.04 64bit. The mail server is using postfix and dovecot for email, and is also the DNS server for that particular network section. The non-mail server should be installed with the default server install (exim4). If possible, I do not want to install any new programs on either server. How to get the non-mail server to use the mail server to send out E-Mails?

The email client has to be text command based because I need to use command line to send notification email from anothar application installed in my Linux (Centos 5.1) Since the email client will only be used to send email notification, I don't require setting up of an email server in my linux.
Using CentOS. I have a cron setup to run this command: Code: /var/test.sh | mail -s "Test Cron" mr182@somewhere.com The email is sent but the output of the script is not in the email body, it's just blank. I know there is some output because there are some echo statements in the script.I don't want to get an email for all cronjobs, just this one.

I was looking at Radius and then literature suggested that Diameter was a better protocol. Keep in mind I need this on a hetrogeneous setup ( linux & windows together). Diameter seemed like a good fit until I discovered that the open source code no longer seems to be maintained ( C/C++).
I was also looking at Kerberos as an option though there is alot overhead with the server. SSL/TLS or EAP? I am looking for simple but secure and am new at the security protocols.

I want to be able to intersperse my replies within a quoted reply i.e. if the email had three paragraphs, I'd like to be able to have my replies between each of the paragraphs. At the moment, I don't seem to be able to do anything other than delete from the quoted section - I try to simulate my requirements by cutting and then 'paste quotation', but this doesn't always work as sometimes Evolution adds too many levels of '> ' .
