View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been interested in Synfig for a while. In the last version of Ubuntu, there were some problems so I couldn't install it. Yesterday I remembered the program and decided to try it on 9.10. I was amazed, it installed fine and everything worked just how it should. Then later last night, I must have done something because everything turned invisible and when I created a new layer or shape, nothing new appeared.
I fiddled with it for a while and then reinstalled the program a total of like 3 times just in case that would help. Then, I went straight to the Synfig site and downloaded the newest version. It looked better, different, but it behaved exactly the same. I'm very confused and I would like to use Synfig, it seems amazing. I assume there's some little thing I missed or something I pressed that I shouldn't have. Here are screen shots of both versions.

I have two partition in my netbook (plus swap):
/dev/sda4 with Ubuntu 10.4 /dev/sda5 with Centos 5.5
I use Ubuntu obviously. Centos is there because I need to run some test on that distro. The problem is Centos uses Grub and Ubuntu uses Grub2.
This is /boot/grub/menu.lst from Centos:
Code:
default=0 timeout=5 splashimage=(hd0,4)/boot/grub/splash.xpm.gz
title CentOS (2.6.18-194.17.4.el5xen)
root (hd0,4)
kernel /boot/xen.gz-2.6.18-194.17.4.el5
module /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.17.4.el5xen ro root=LABEL=/1 rhgb quiet
module /boot/initrd-2.6.18-194.17.4.el5xen.img .....
This was generated running update-grub2 and grub-install under Ubuntu. It's not working. It gives me something like bad magic number. How can I convert the grub1 entry in a grub2 shape?
I'm trying to shape bandwidth using HTB method and filtering classes with destination mac address. for this I've found two codes but none of them seem to filter bandwidth as i want (test with iperf)

tc class add dev eth0 parent 1: classid 1:1 htb rate 1000kbit ceil 1000kbit

So, I have this application called Impact, it is an explicit time integration Finite Elements code written in Java...
[url]
I untar the pack, and launch the application calling a script, from within the untarred folder,
Code:
This launches a gui which allows me to setup a case, which needs some setup file, tipically some *.in and a mesh file, tipically some *.msh.
Other mode of executuion consists of calling the setup file as argument to Impact.sh script ( CLI execution mode, for g33k5 )
My problem is : I have packed the whole stuff into a Slackware .tgz, that places it in /usr/local/Impact, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin,
Code:
Code:
I decided to hack the ImpactGUI_OGL_linux_amd64.sh script from
Code:
Code:
no avail,
Code:
even after adding /usr/local/Impact/bin to PATH... won't go...
I can run this thing from within its directory... but I do not like messing within the directories of my applications, this is why I sent this to /usr/local, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin...

I would assume I can connect to a running process to debug it, but I'm not sure what to gather. The program has several background processes associated with it so I'm sure I'll need to attach to the actual internal process. Does anyone have any experience in this to offer some insight?

So far I only found tips to install single icons or to add icon packs. :S
and is there any way to when you install an application make it default for such file types ?

Is there a way to set my GTK+ appearance/theme so that my GTK+ apps don't look so bland?
I'm running Redhat 5 Enterprise (Nautilus 2.16.2) with Gnome and am having trouble changing the default application for PDFs. No matter what I do, it seems to always come up as evince.
First I tried browsing to a PDF file using Nautilus, right clicking on a PDF file, selecting properties, open with, and then changing the radio button. However, the radio button is selecting "Document Viewer" and clicking on the other buttons doesn't do anything. The button is stuck on "Document Viewer" (I'd like to use Adobe Acrobat).
I thought I'd do it manually then. Running `gnomevfs-info file.pdf" shows code...
So now xdg-mime and gnomevfs-info are showing different default applications for this file type. I've tried updating the mime database using update-mime-database ~/.local/share/mime as well as updating my desktop database using update-desktop-database ~/.local/share but nothing seems to be working.
Changing a default application really shouldn't be this difficult. What should I try next to change my default application?
, however, shows something different
My .local/share/applications/defaults.list file, however, shows the following:
application/pdf=AdobeReader.desktop

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm developing a server application for ubuntu server, clients will connect to in through socket connection. It's in beta stage and under heavy development. At the moment lots of people are using it and it is updated almost every day. So I seed to seriously consider security issues and in the same time don't restrict myself too much. Now I have two questions:
Where is the appropriate place to store its files? Application consists of executable, some config files and startup script. But I don't want to spread it accross the filesystem just store in single folder for convenience since app is under heavy development. My guess would be to create new dir under /var. Right now I store it in my home folder.
Do I need to create separate user for it? I start it up using init.d script via sudo -u me. I want to restrict its access to system for security purposes but in the same time I want to be able to update it through FTP and not run into access issues (user that uploads it is different from user that runs it, and it sometimes need write access to some files). How to do that?
