Apr 3, 2010I've been interested in Synfig for a while. In the last version of Ubuntu, there were some problems so I couldn't install it. Yesterday I remembered the program and decided to try it on 9.10. I was amazed, it installed fine and everything worked just how it should. Then later last night, I must have done something because everything turned invisible and when I created a new layer or shape, nothing new appeared.
I fiddled with it for a while and then reinstalled the program a total of like 3 times just in case that would help. Then, I went straight to the Synfig site and downloaded the newest version. It looked better, different, but it behaved exactly the same. I'm very confused and I would like to use Synfig, it seems amazing. I assume there's some little thing I missed or something I pressed that I shouldn't have. Here are screen shots of both versions.

Nov 6, 2010I have two partition in my netbook (plus swap):
/dev/sda4 with Ubuntu 10.4 /dev/sda5 with Centos 5.5
I use Ubuntu obviously. Centos is there because I need to run some test on that distro. The problem is Centos uses Grub and Ubuntu uses Grub2.

This was generated running update-grub2 and grub-install under Ubuntu. It's not working. It gives me something like bad magic number. How can I convert the grub1 entry in a grub2 shape?

Jul 1, 2010Im running netbook remix on a eeepc 1005ha. It is my only OS and Im loving it except for one obnoxious quirk. It randomly cuts text and randomly pastes it. If there is something in the clipboard, it will usually paste that, but just as often it will cut random text and paste that. The pastes occur when the cursor focus jumps back to the location of the cursor on the screen. I dont know a better way to phrase that, but thats what it is doing. Say... I put the cursor over the word "pastes" in the paragraph above... even though Im typing in this paragraph, the focus will "jump" to the cursors physical locale (the word "pastes") and then paste whatever is in the clipboard. If the cursor is outside of the textbox, the page will jump to the bottom.
This behavior occurs across programs and in any place text can be entered. I can find no rhyme or reason for it... it just... happens. Sometimes even when Im away from my computer, so its not like Im hitting some key on accident. I have loved everything about this ubuntu distro, but this issue is just toany obnoxious. Writing psych papers on this thing is going to be near impossible if I dont get this fixed before I go back to school.

May 3, 2010I dual-boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Sometime between 4/18 and a few days ago, something happened with Windows booting up. Ubuntu boots fine, but whenever I try to boot Windows, it just goes to a black screen with a blinking cursor (the command line kind, not a pointer). At first I thought it was Windows, but I have run the repair CD and executed chkdsk /f and chkdsk /r on all partition related to windows. No effect.
I ran a system check designed for issues with booting up, and it found no errors. I have looked at my GRUB files, and they all look fine. I am not sure if it is GRUB or Windows. I tried reinstalling the Windows boot-loader, and it had the same effect, the only difference is that it bypassed GRUB. The reason I think it may be GRUB is that the error happened around the same time as me upgrading from Karmic to the Lucid RC. I have posted this on a Windows 7 forum.

May 1, 2010Am running Ubuntu NBR as the sole OS on my Dell Mini 9. Switched over in March to 9.10 NBR. Everything worked fine.Upgraded to 10.04 when it was released. It's awesome EXCEPT for this busy cursor thing.As soon as I log in, all the time my cursor is the spinning wheel of busyness.... It works just as a normal cursor would - my computer also does not seem to be slower due to any operations.If I open an application, the cursor will behave as usual within the window but if I more my cursor to the title bar or switch out of the application, the "busy cursor" resumes.

Aug 21, 2011I installed today debian wheezy from OpenSUSE system via bootstrap. I have some strange behaviour with kde. At first kde worked fine and the only problem was that if I tried to logout from kde session, instead of kdm shows up, a black screen appear with mouse cursor working. I first ignore this error(because I had some problems with audio) and just reboot from vt console or sometimes restart kdm service. After I solved the audio problem I've searched to find some solution about kdm black screen problem. I found on kde forums a solution about terminate xserver option on kdmrc file, which didn't work in my case, but create another problem.
The problem is that now when I pass the mouse cursor from windows topbars I have glitches on window decorations. So I disable the above option again, reboot but the graphics problems was still there. I tried to uncheck vsync from desktom effects and the resault was all desktop effects to be disabled. Now I cannot re-enable desktop effects any more. But now I can logout and relogin. 3D works fine(glxgears works) but I cannot enable desktop effects. And I think that some effects work, because I see some smooth movements and fade outs when I pass the mouse cursor on kmenu items. My card is ATI radeon HD 4650, and I have the xorg-video-ati driver installed.

Sep 20, 2010I am fed up of listening to my (Windows XP) gaming computer through headphones so I want to get it hooked to the stereo.
Rather than use a heck of a lot of wire, I can sit my Ubuntu 9.10 netbook on top of the stereo and stream the audio across WiFi.
So, ideally what I am after is something to capture the outgoing audio on the Windows computer, stream it across the wifi to the Ubuntu netbook and finally play it through the speakers.

May 6, 2010I'm running an Acer 1810Tz, dual boot with win7.Under 9.10 and Grub I had no boot issues, however I have just completed the upgrade to 10.04 and upgraded GRUB to GRUB2.Everything boots just fine into Ubuntu, and my GRUB menu looks right, but when I select the Windows 7 option, the machine just hangs with a black screen, white cursor top left. I'm sure this is a trivial problem, something overwritten that shouldn't have been perhaps, but I have no clue where to start.

Apr 21, 2011I'm fairly new to ubuntu and I've been messing around with customizing my desktop/UI over the past week or so and I must have messed something up. After I got sick of how slow Wallpapoz was to change backgrounds between workspaces (I'm using GNOME) I turned on the Wallpaper plugin in Compiz and turned off the nautilus desktop. That worked great for the backgrounds but now whenever I try to drag windows around the cursor shudders and shakes and the wondows won't move smoothly. I eventually get them to where I want them to go but it's very annoying.
So far, I have re-enabled the nautilus desktop and reinstalled nautilus with synaptic, neither of which did anything.
