i have oracle installed on Linux i want to schedule a script "backup.sh" to run in oracle user.

this script does not execute by cron.
BUT
oracle@linux1 tmp] ./backup.sh ------executes successfully
I dont know why the script is not being executed by cron

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a scheduled backup to run on our server at work and since the 7/12/09 it has be making 592k files instead of 10Mb files, In mysql-admin (the GUI tool) I have a stored connection for the user 'backup', the user has select and lock rights on the databases being backed up. I have a backup profile called 'backup_regular' and in the third tab along its scheduled to backup at 2 in the morning every week day. If I look at one of the small backup files generated I see the following:

I did a search and came up with many different opinions and suggestions, and I could not find any similar threads for this (if there is I must apoligize in advance and did not look hard enough). I am trying to create a backup schedule for client computers and servers; and I would like your opinion on what I came up with. Here is network infrastrusture setup:
16 client computers
6 serevrs
- Primary and Secondary Web Server (RAID 1)
- Primary and Secondary Domain Controller (RAID 1)
- File/Print Server (RAID 5)
- Backup Server (RAID 1) with USB 2.0 1TB External Drive
Of course I will evetually upgrade to Tape Drives, but I am saving up for that. Anyways I want to backup ALL client computers, Primary Web and DC server, and File/Print Server. This will be done (of course) on the Backup Server) Here is the schedule:

I have one database for my web application. It's using MyISAM tables. In MySQL admin, I went to Backup and created a scheduled backup project called backup1. On the advanced tab, I selected "Lock All Tables" and checked the box for "Backup Selected Database Completely". On the Schedule Backup tab I have "Execute this Project Daily" selected and the time 1AM. The target directory is set along with the connection name. The connection it's using is the same MySQL user that my web application uses in order to utilize the database. It has full access to that database. Now when the backup file is created, it backs up no data at all.
Instead in creates files that are 580bytes in size. When I open the files they contain:

I've AMD64 system with Ubuntu 11.04 installed. It's been rough ride for me to install oracle-xe-universal. I've already spent more than 2 days on this. Still unsuccessful.
1) First I downloaded the packages libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb and oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
2) Then I ran
sudo apt-get install bc (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture libaio_0.3.104-1_i386.deb (ran fine)
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.1_i386.deb
(gave me dependency error for libc6 (>= 2.3.2), I modified the control file to remove dependency and rebuilt the package) (now worked fine) Oracle xe is now installed. Then I tried to start the DB it started but it's HTTP client never started. So I decided to uninstall the oracle-xe=universal. None of the sudo apt-get remove oracle-xe-universal command's didn't worked for me. So i went for manual uninstallation directions as per oracle link.
I ran the following command-
--Manually uninstalling Oracle 10g--
sudo rm -rf /usr/lib/oracle /etc/oratab /etc/init.d/oracle-xe /etc/sysconfig/oracle-xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe /usr/share/doc/oracle_xe_client
Then I again ran the following command to install oracle-xe
sudo dpkg -i --force-architecture oracle-xe-universal_10.2.0.1-1.0_i386.deb
See below what I got as the output-

Even in applications menu I don't see the if oracle has been installed. So i conclude first time installation was ok but somehow http client didn't worked. After manual uninstallation, second installation didn't even loaded/installed the oracle-xe in init.d directory.
I am setting crontab to run a script every minute irrespective of the current hour's value:

But it is not working. Does the line mean: "Run this script every day at hour:01"?
my problem is that an application which I want to start at the startup is creating some problems if it is started at the startup. But if it is started after a few seconds or say a minute of the startup, it doesn't cause any trouble.

Actually I tried before to repair the installation, using the install DVD, but the automatic repair procedure failed. More than that, since then boot loader also seams to be "repaired" so that the Windows installation doesn't appear in the boot menu, but this is another thing.For me, now, the fastest way to get a stable system is to make a new installation. The biggest problem is that I cannot save/backup the emails and accounts settings in an elegant way. I'm using Thunderbird. Of course I would also like to save other apps settings.So is there a way to save user application settings so that I can used them after a new install? At least with the search terms I'm using.So, my question is, is there a backup software for Linux that backs up not only a user's home folder, etc, but also the user's applications, and its associated data.
I am about to upgrade my mother's computer to Lucid, but I don't want to do that until I can find a backup solution that will ensure she doesn't lose any of her application data. She has a lot of apps on her netbook, so just finding out where each individual app stores its data and backing it up is kind of out of the question. Unless every app that the end-user uses (that isn't run as root, obviously) stores its data in the home folder, then it would be easier.Honestly, I use a Mac and I guess I'm just used to the simplicity of Time Machine, which certainly backs up applications, application data, user data, and even extra executables in all the /bin folders (which Macs don't typically use to store most applications). I've heard TimeVault is like Time Machine, but when I tried to use it on her computer, it wouldn't work because it wasn't compatible with the version of Ubuntu that was (and still is) on her computer.
