General :: Remove A Drive Icon From "Computer-File Browser"?
Oct 10, 2010
I am having some difficulty with a USB Flash and have somehow created a permanent icon in this folder that matches the origial mount name. The shape of the icon is the same as a CD ROM. I need the permission of "unknown" to delete it. How do I get rid of this folder? I'm Using Gnome with Nautilus.

I regularly use an online imageboard website, and as such I am constantly uploading images. Being new to the linux OS, I was quite familar with Microsoft Windows file explorer and its adaption with file uploading. However, it would seem that GNOME follows a different method and uses a separate file browser to a file uploader Here is my file browser and the various options available (icon size, icon view, bigger thumbnails):
And here is what I get when I upload files to a website: My question is, is there a workaround or package available to allow changeable icon sizes/thumbnails in the file uploader? The picture preview is good, but really isn't enough for what I require

I loaded Linux Mint 7, Gloria, on an Emachine with a 120 gb HD, with 512K ram, dual booted with windows Vista. Re-partitioned the HD into 2 equal portions of 60gb, with 58gb for Mint and 2gb for swap. Got online and got all (>200) updates for Mint 7 Gloria. Mint comes up fine, but if I go to Menu>Computer (file-browser), nothing I click on works. No files will open, (clicking on the little triangles does not open that file).and I can't even close that "page" with the x-box in the upper right hand corner. Any thoughts? A friend thinks is could be the amount of memory (512) and says I should use Ubuntu because it requires less.

I have been using my Acer Aspire One Netbook, with Linux Lite v1.0.13.E as loaded on purchase, happily for a year or so. Yesterday, when I clicked on the Browser picture to open up Firefox, nothing happened. I can't find how to access anything which will let me check if the icon has lost a link. I have looked on the File Manager and can see the .mozilla folder but don't know what to look for, nor what to do from here.
I have now managed to add the sub-menu which was linked to here: [URL] as a way to Install apps. I can now use this directory to try and open Firefox Web Browser - I then get the message "Failed to execute default web browser Input/output error.

The file has been successfully copied to the second computer but I again want to copy that file into my local computer by still sitting in my 1st computer.

I'm using rhel6. Using File Browser Nautilus 2.28.4 I could easily locate any file I'm interested in by it name. I'd like to use this File Browser to locate the file name based on it content e.g. based on some word in the text file. It doesn't work for me that way ... My question: does Nautilus support the search of file based on it content or only based on the name of the file itself?

I've installed chromium browser package from Index of /repositories/openSUSE:/11.4:/Contrib/standard I notice that the taskbar icon has been missing (for quite some time) - I can confirm it on 3 different openSUSE 11.4 installations - on my laptop, my home HTPC/gaming rig and the worstation at work. The icon in the gnome main menu->internet->chromium looks fine but the icon I get in Compiz Ring Switcher seems to be the same white box icon with the blue bar. I'm sure it started happening since an update of Chromium in Feb/Mar timeframe. Does anyone else face similar problem and may be found a solution to get the icon fixed in the taskbar? I've attached a screenshot showing the problem.

But when I click on the shared folder it takes the password that I have previously saved. Its not prompting for new username and password.

i am setting up a software raid6 for the first time. To test the raid i removed a drive from the array by popping it out of the enclosure. mdadm marked the drive as F and everything seemed well. From what i gather the next step is to remove the drive from the array (mdadm /dev/md0 -r sdf), when i try this i receive the error:
mdadm: cannot find /dev/sdf: No such file or directory
That is true, when i plugged the drive back in the machine now recognizes it as /dev/sdk. My question is how do i remove this non-existent failed drive from my array as i was able to re-add it just fine as /dev/sdk with mdadm /dev/md0 -a /dev/sdk
Also, is there any way to define a drive based on id or something similar to the same drive name to avoid this?

Is it possible to locate the Firefox file that retains "Search" history (not particularly "Browser" history)?I have lost a hardcopy list of authors and titles of books/ebooks that I search the web for. However, most of the time when I would enter a name or title a drop down list would have that entry I wanted, and I could just click on it. That drop down list is what I am calling "Search" history.

I recently installed Debian Jessie, and I am fairly new to Linux. I have both IceWeasel and Chromium, and every other time I try to use either, it freezes the whole computer, the screen shows only diagonal colors, and I have to hard boot. I have another windows and linux computer on this network with no problems at all. I have run checks on the ram on this computer which found no problems. Everything else on the computer works fine.

Take a look at the "screen shot attachment" you will notice that I have multiple listings for the HD - WIN_XP, WIN_7 and GAMES. I was checking out both NTFS CONFIGURATION TOOL and MOUNTMANAGER. I Removed MOUNTMANAGER but the multiple listings remain? I would like to have the ability to Mount and Unmount any drive from the File Manager except ARCHIVE this drive I need to mount as Ubuntu Boots up.

I need to get a backup copy of a huge directory on one of our RHEL servers. Rather than hook the external USB drive up to my PC and manually copy it all across the network, can I just plug it in to one of my USB ports on the server and rsync it?I know how to do the rsync, I just don't know how to get the USB drive to show up when I do a df -h and how to properly remove it before unplugging it from the server. this is a live server, so I can't go playing around and possibly mess something up.
