General :: Redhat 5.3 Installation Using Pendrive In Standalone System
May 10, 2010
i have a standalone system in my home. i don't have cd/dvd drive and no any facility to install it form network. i want to install redhat 5.3 using pen drive on my pc.
I am a using Windows xp. I had Started my Redhat6 tuition from some days,, My question is " How can I install redhat linux 6 from my pendrive? Please describe me all the steps cause I haven't try to install a O.S. from pendrive?
I am recently installed linux redhat 5.0 using vmware. I am unable to connect pendrive in vmware. I've also one more problem. When i was typing small 'C'language program in vi editor and compiled it and it showed an error like "Bash: cc compiler not found".
I am running the latest version of linux mint from my 16GB flash drive. Is there any way for me to access the other files I have saved on the flash drive? I have tried to searching through folders myself but haven't had any luck.
I've installed a standalone system (no internet connection), and now I would like to add more software from the 7CD I used for the clean installation. I've enabled the 'media-repo' and disabled any other, but when I go to the main menu '->remove/install software' the System shows the message 'Can't find repomd.xml file...' and stops.
I want to know the exact command to shut down a red hat linux server.I was using init 0. but some one said its not the proper method to shut down my linux server. If not which is the exact command
I;m using RHEL5, i have a problem with my wireless lan card, my laptop wireless cant be enable , i always show a inactive in the network configuration property, i know it detect in my box code...
I have installed centos 5.3 64bit on my machine using pendrive. installation completed successfully. but now i am not able to boot my system without pendrive. do i need to make change in /etc/grub.conf
Note: I am doing such setup for the first time so I don't know if there is a problem with given opensuse version or problem with what I am doing. System: openSUSE 11.4 RC1
Desired setup: entire system except /boot partition on hard disk, /boot partition on USB (pendrive). Aim -- making impossible to boot from hard disk, forcing boot from the USB (please, don't question my aim, I am just trivializing the issue here to shorten the description).
Setup: I set /home and / partitions on hard disk (/sda), /boot partition on USB (/sdb), I selected the options to Boot From Boot Partition as well as Boot From Master Boot Record. Finally I selected Boot Loader Options and selected Set active flag in Partition Table for Boot Partition. I installed the system.
What works:
a) without pendrive inserted I cannot start the system b) with pendrive inserted GRUB menu shows up and system is ready to boot
The problem: after initial starting, there is long pause, and system switches to text mode with error:
Code: drive "/dev/disk/by-id/id_of_my_pendrive" is not found Since the console worked, I logged in, and yes, actually there was not such disk found. But the disk (pendrive) was there -- the initial booting took place not from void, but from it. So why it is not present? Out of curiosity, I pulled it out, and plugged it in back, now it was visible in "dev/disk/. Question: what should I change/tweak for correct booting the system from pendrive? Or is a bug in 11.4 installer? I would like to setup everything as it should be done -- I mean within installer.
What I found so far: Booting encrypted system from USB stick - Gentoo Linux Wiki it is similar problem to mine, but only similar. I have other symptoms.

I would like to download a Flash game and play it without using Firefox under Ubuntu Lucid - any ideas how? I can download the game fine, I'm just wondering how to play it without Firefox. Is there a standalone Flash Player I can use?
Doing some research I was leaning towards buying an inexpensive laptop and either install linux or buy one already installed (maybe Debian or Ubunutu). The uses for this laptop would be for developing linux device drivers and having the option to control the OS for any customized applications which I could develop. Didn't want to go the dual boot with Windows approach.
Is there a way to obtain the RedHat Linux version freely. I was able to find a RH server version and installed to my local m/c but it takes long time when it's booting
i have a usb hardisk of 320 gb and when i tried to install redhat using it my desktop did not read my usb. in other words i wish to know how to boot using usb since my cd/dvd rom is not working. is it that we have to make our device boot-able before using it .
