May 23, 2010to anyone that can help. new to linux. impressed just not sure how to get my broadband dongle to work in linux. in windows it runs automatically. i am with linux ubuntu which picks it up but i cannot run the setup.

I have an FTP server, all configured, and i need to have a script that will create a folder with current dated within a tree as soon as particular user logs in. I was wondering if that is possible with proftpd. if not, can someone suggest how to create a script that will simply create a DIR with date and autorun itself every 24 hours? i am running Debian/Proftpd with Mysql authorization.

Jun 24, 2010i have a virus in my mp3 that i don't know how to get rid of. the virus is called 'autorun.inf'. even though it doesn't affect Linux (i think) when i mount the mp3, the icon appears as if it was an empty folder. it use to let me delete/copy files into the mp3 but now it doesn't anymore. i cant delete the autorun.inf file or any file!
Ive had this problem before on the same mp3 and what i did was format the mp3 in windows but the thing keeps coming again and again . ive seen a couple 'windows solutions' for this but i dont have windows anymore so...

Sep 22, 2010I've looked at many tutorials on the internet but none helped me much.I've already tried to edit fstab so it would have something like /dev/cdrom/media/cdrom0udf,iso9660user,auto00.But the thing is this only takes effect when the OS loads, and the CD has to be inserted at that time, so it's not something permanent or viable. What I'm looking for it's something to auto-mount the cd in the fluxbox GUI when it's inserted just like in Gnome or Kde.

Apr 6, 2010Actually I'm not sure that it's swapping like mad: I've done more testing and it looks like there may some interference causing the noise that may be correlating with network usage. I'm accessing a MacMini (with MacOS X 10.4) from my Linux machine using VNC. My Linux machine has 4 GB of ram and I run a lot of various apps on it and I've got no issue at all. It's all snappy and don't hear the hard disk swapping/read/writing too often. Now with VNC, the hard disk is swapping like mad. When I'm moving things on the OS X desktop. So I was thinking of creating a ramdisk and forcing the temp VNC files to go into that ramdisk but the problem is I can't find any temp files.
I've attempted to do that:

The VNC version I'm using is this one:

No matter how much data is coming from the Mac, there should be plenty of memory (4 GB of ram) so there's really no reason to swap like crazy.
Debian Installation :: Autorun Script Not Found
Jul 23, 2011Currently have debian i386 on a CD. go to reboot my laptop with the CD still in the drive- nothing. So i did some playing around and I found this when trying to manually run the CD through archive manager I think on ubuntu: Autorun script not found? I would assume this is why debian will not boot up after restart. how can I fix this?
