Running Debian lenny. If I use the lpr command from a regular ssh client (ie. not using xterm), I get a printout from a IP printer without problems. But if I am using an xterm and issue the exact same command, a window named "LPR GUI" pops up. The problem with the gui window is that the "OK" button is greyed out and nothing I do seems to allow me to print.
View 4 RepliesI'm trying to burn the .ido of Mepis 11 to a DVD. I have a 4.7Gb DVD-R in the drive. Usually, I would just navigate to the .iso and select it, and K3b would do the rest. Now, when I do that, K3b does check the md5sum, and it's correct, but then it just sits there with the Start button greyed out.

When I go to Network Connections and click on the VPN tab the button to "Add" a connection its greyed out.I've googled and tried a few things in terminal with openvpn, pptpd client, poptop, but now I'm more confused than ever. I think the problem is most of the pages I hit are how to create a SERVER on the Centos 5 box, I just want to be able to vpn into work, so I'm assuming a client?My question is
1. Is there a gui interface for a quick VPN connection?
2. If not, what is a help doc with just the connecting side of the puzzle?
I have a 2nd computer with Windows on it that was preset up on VPN for me.
I'm using openSUSE 11.3 with Gnome.I have installed Handbrake 0.9.4-1 from packman. After I installed it, I can choose the source, but Start, Pause and Add to Queue button are all grayed out.

I'm running Ubuntu 10.2 running Gnome. I have notice the last couple of times I have started my desktop that the Shut Down button is greyed out, the button does not respond when the mouse goes over it nor to being clicked. When this happens I remove the non-functioning button and add it again fresh and the following restart it happens all over again. I added this button manually to a panel by right-clicking on it and selecting "Shut Down" in the first menu that appears.

They work really great except there's this one button that lunches Windows Media Player on Windows but on Linux... it doesn't seem to do anything... So my question is, how do I assign a different task for this button on Linux? View 1 Replies View RelatedICEauthority file, in which everytime I started up, it gave me a message about this and that (the problem with that was the general problem with .ICEauthority stuff, I couldn't get in my computer and it said that nautilus needed certain folders and so on). But thats not the problem here, I went through every single Ubunty forum post about fixing the .ICEauthority thing, and non of them worked. So I unistalled nautilus in the terminal, then re-installed nautilus in the terminal. And now when I start the computer up, it doesn't have the .ICEauthority message anymore, it has nothing! A blank screen with a cursor! What did I do?

The HDD I'm booting from is a 20GB Maxtor and is the 3rd slave. The new 80GB one is the 3rd master.
So I have a intel wifi link 5100 , the drivers should work BUT iwconfig doesn't show my card ..
However doing a ' sudo lshw -C network ' command , it DOES show my wireless card is recognised but not enabled and here is where the problems start ..

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've searched for this a fair bit but everyone seems to have a different cause.
I constantly get applications greyed out. (I understand this is when ubuntu sees them as 'not responding') It happens to Firefox a lot, but that may just be because I use it alot. It happens to Nautilus a lot too, and sometimes the everything gets grey at once.
Windows, every other OS I've ever had installed (including older Ubuntus) and the 10.04 live-cd all run fine. So I'm under the impression that it's something either that i've installed or that ubuntu did when it installed.
It's done this pretty regularly from day one, so it doesn't seem to be something I've done lol.
What possible causes are there for this? Is there a log or something I can check that may enlighten me?

E.g., if I log in to a normal Gnome session, I have no panel or any controls whatsoever, just the desktop background and nothing else. Mouse works, but no mouse click of any sort brings up any menu. The only keystroke combo that works is CTRL-ALT-DEL which lets me cleanly reboot.
Logging in to Gnome-Failsafe works fine (that's where I am now). Even if I reconfigure the graphics in failsafe, however, it doesn't seem to fix the problem next reboot.
First question: What do I have to do to copy the working Gnome-failsafe info to Gnome regular?
Second question: What should I do to start the graphic config again from scratch? I'm guessing my problem might have something to do with my having an older Nvidia card and getting conflicts between the proprietary drivers and the 'nouveau' open source drivers, and my current efforts to fix things have probably left a mess of config files somewhere, but I'm not entirely up on how these things are configured nowadays, and understand that /etc/X11/xorg.conf isn't all there is to it anymore. (I used to know how to muck about with this stuff, but because the Ubuntu developers have done such fabulous work in getting things so they 'just work', users like me have had the luxury of not having to worry about figuring it out ourselves for quite a while; thanks are definitely in order there!)
