View 10 RepliesI have tried rebuilding pygtk after installing Numpy and ended up making a mess of python. I have it back to functional now, but I would like to know how to properly add numeric python support. I suspect there is a proper order to building all of the python dependencies that yields success. Ultimately I am trying to run mypaint.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there a formal documented way? I have found a method of doing it, but I find it difficult to believe the ability to uninstall is not formally supported. [URL]
Essentially:
When you install - python setup.py install --record files.txt
When you uninstall - cat files.txt | xargs rm -rf
This will, however, require the user to look through files.txt like a hawk. It is really not an ideal situation I would think.
I'm now up and running on slackware 13 x64. I have noticed that the version of Python installed was 2.6.2 but there were a lot of bug fixes between this and 2.6.5. What is the best way to get 2.6.5 running on my machine. Do I have to install from source or is anybody aware of any packages that have been released?
Again, I'm not too familiar with package management systems on Slackware as I have always installed from source but this became a bit of a bind recently as updating software to newer versions involved a lot of hard work. Can anybody give me an ideas on the packaging systems available, the best ones to use, and where I can find information about the packages related to the package managers?
I am trying to install the MySQLdb package for python and the instructions tell me that I need to add mysql_config to my path. This file does not appear to exist in my mysql installation, or anywhere on my machine. I installed mysql-server from the ubuntu package manager, and then did a search of my system for that file.
Code:
sudo find / -name mysql_config
This gave me no results. where I can find this? Is it part of some extra toolkit for mysql?
I am trying to install the python-matplotlib package but I get E:broken packages. I have tried the apt-get -f install, apt-get update, apt-get clean all in various permutations but it doesnt solve the problem.I also tried uninstalling the dependednt packages and then reinstalling them but that doesnt work either.
root@ubuntu:~# apt-get install python-matplotlib

I'm currently running Debian Wheezy (upgrading to Jessie is not possible since I'm using OpenMediaVault which only supports Wheezy) but ever since I installed Deluge BitTorrent client that I've had this python-libtorrent package as "kept back". I'd like to fix this system state but how...
A few things I've tried:

I have the following APT repositories on my sources which I believe are causing my problem:
Code: Select alldeb http://dh2k.omv-extras.org/debian/ stoneburner-miller main
deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/deluge-team/ppa/ubuntu precise main
They were added through OpenMediaVault's interface when I enabled some checkboxes to be able to install Deluge.
I'm trying to install some virtual machines to a dedi using KVM. So far everything seems to be working, I tested the KVM install with virsh -c qemu:///system list and it responded, however, I'm trying to now install the script for generating new vps's python-virtinst but putty is returning this error:

I have been trying to install the NumPy package for Python on to my home directory, as I run as part of a server and do not have permissions to install new packages in the Linux server.
I have set up Python in my home directory, and have configured ~/.bash_profile to find my local Python (which works, confirmed by testing).
However, when I attempt to install the NumPy package, I get the message error: could not create '/usr/local/lib/python2.6': Permission denied Which I find strange because I do not see why it would need to install files anywhere except my local Python directory.
how I might be able to specify the directory in which files are installed?
I am writing a python package deployment tool for linux based platforms. I have tried various existing tool sets but none of them is up to the mark and they have their own issues. Initially I'll start with simple approach.
1. Find all the modules/packages and copy to "lib" directory.
2. Find python's *.so dependencies (system libs) and copy them to "syslib"
3. Copy python (executable) and libpython2.6.so.1.0 into "dist" directory.
4. Set up temp environment
5. Run main script using "python <main script>.py"
The idea is to produce a cleaner directory structure. Neither I am creating a boot loader nor I am converting main script file into executable. It's plain vanilla stuff. Using above steps I have pulled down a package using wxPython's demo example "pySketch.py". You can download the archive from here: [URL]. After extracting the contents, run the executable file using "./run". This file sets temporary environment variables and execute "pySketch.py". This is eventually not working. I think I am not able to set up temporary environment properly or may be missing some other stuff.

Tried with --fix-missing option as well. Same errors in this case also. How I can install python-dev package on 64-bit Ubuntu Linux machine?
Is this package supposed to compile on slakware64 13.1 ( I have also multilib) ?
I m trying to but I m encountering this problem:

This may sound a bit of an awkward question, but I have this app, Salome-Platform, [URL], It requires Python 2.5 at most to be able to run. (Compiling it is way to complex.) Since the Python of Slackware is 2.6, can it be downgraded to 2.5...? If it can, how do I do it...?
View 15 Replies View RelatedJust installed 13.1 64bit on my laptop. In an effort to keep things slim, I neglected to install the 'D' group....didn't figure I would be doing any developing (call me a literalist). I install Wicd and find that Python is a dependency. What is the easiest way for me to make this happen? Should I just install the python txz or will there be more dependencies that could be solved easier with a script?
View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I have patched the 3.2 sources similar to the 3.1.3 sources. I used the slackbuild from 3.1.3 as well. I get to the install of the script and I get this:

We are pleased to present one of our new creations: pkgbuild, a tool written in standard C++, using libCURL, ZLib, BZip2 and libLZMA (part of XZ). It is a modern Slackware packages builder, network-transparent, multi-architecture, designed to greatly simplify the creation of a package, automatically executing the required post processing.
What does it do? Recognize and build packages for the following architectures: i386, i486, i586, i686, x86_64, IA64, IA32e, s390, s390x, sparc and sparc64.

I downloaded from http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/s...ce/n/net-snmp/ source and I build new package and works ok no errors. If I change net-snmp.SlackBuild and add CFLAGS --with-mib-modules=ucd-snmp/lmSensors --with-ldflags=-lsensors while I need lmsensors support in net-snmp. But the package compiling ends with error:

I am very happy to announce that today I succeeded to install full Slackware ARM on the pandaboard: URL...I did the following:
* sd with 2 partitions, one (vfat) for bootloaders (MLO, u-boot.bin) and uImage and the other one (ext2) for minirootfs
* copy xloader (MLO), uboot and uImage from Angstrom distro on the first partition
* copy Slackware ARM minirootfs on the second partition with Angstrom modules in the usual path (/lib/modules/...)
* boot in ARMedslack
* install all the others packages via NFS
I had to make some changes to configuration files as indicated here:URL...The next step is to build a kernel and modules for omap4 by myself and use them instead of the Angstrom ones. One question: is there any kind of package manager, such as slap-get, sbopkg, etc. for Slackware ARM? If not, can I use the SlackBuilds from slackbuilds.org? How to modify them?
Does anybody use openshot in Slackware 13? What I made: I modified the slackbuild script for openshot of Slackbuilds.org for version 1.1.1 and then I made the package and installed it. Of course the dependencies too. But when I start Openshot, I get the following error:
OpenShot (version 1.1.1)
Error: OpenShot has not been installed in the Python path.
(Both the site-packages and /usr/share/openshot folders were checked)
Use the following command to install OpenShot:
$ sudo python setup.py install

Anybody know of a slackware package for the Iced Tea Java thing? I have the rpm (I have fedora anyhow) but I would like a slackpkg to cstick in here.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm running xbmc on slackware64-13.1 and it's running great. However a python addon script is giving me trouble. The script contains some utf-8 characters, and by default I get an error because coding isn't declared in the script. I've added
Code: # -*- coding: utf-8 -*- to the scripts and they will work fine, but they are updated very frequently. I've tried messing around with turning on unicode console and such but I'm a bit in the dark on this. Is there a way I can get slack to handle those scripts without having to edit them every time I update?
I found the source, but it's missing a few header files.I tried downloading a few but it wasn't working correctly.I'd rather install this package properly.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm elated when I see software download pages that include a binary Slackware package.wrt KVIrc, their Slackware package is at the top of their list of binaries. They've got an rpm too, but it's SuSE, not Redhat - I found that to be pretty kewl too.I wonder if they're Slackers... hm...Well, that having been said, there's also a SlackBuild for it at the repository.I'm going to give this client a spin and see how I like it.Here's the URL: http://www.kvirc.net/?id=releases&pl...=4.0.2&lang=enUPDATE: The mirrors I checked are reporting 404 errors... bummer.
