I want that user can modify or upload already stored files. but, should not upload any unwanted files orfolders.for that i want to use "rm" command as auto scheduler (putting this in cron tab.so that all files will be removed except some required files / folders for which this upload facility is activated. users are using secure-shell for uploading data.
View 1 Replies View RelatedIn case somebody has a PC with
- mainboard ok
- RAM ok
- terminal.. ok
- a defect CDROM = no CDROM
- a defect floppy = no floppy
- a defect HDD = no HDD
- an IDE connector inside the PC
- an USB port but cannot boot from there (BIOS is too old).
Then I would
-> buy a compactflash card (>2GB) approx 10 Euros
-> buy an USB-Compactflash adapter approx 5 Euros
-> buy an IDE adapter for compactflash card aprox 20 Euros
-> ask a friend or a shop to install KNOPPIX on USB+Compact Flash (easy on KNOPPIX 6.2 through a menu "install on flash card")
-> put the compactflash + IDE adapter into the PC and boot from there (BIOS setting must be correctly done; easy job)
Then later buy a small HDD for installing the personal data on it. Has somebody a quicker or cheaper method?
how can I clone my installed ubuntu to a new harddisk? with 32bit ubuntu I have used:tar cvpzf -> create a tar file on my external nas system. after that I have done a restore tar xvpfz - worked with 32 bit.
Alternative I have mounted both disks and via another linux partition I have used:
cp -rvbdR /source/* /target
both methodes worked with ubuntu 32 bit. With 64 bit ubuntu I can NOT get it to work. error message after booting the clone: /var/lib/gdm/.ICEauthoriy ..
I can see that /source/var/lib/gdm has different rights as /target - will be part of the problem.
This did not happen with the 32 bit ubuntu - but why ?
Whenever I try to format my 2.0GB USB stick, I get the following error:
Code:

Error creating file system: helper exited with exit code 1: helper failed with:

Two years ago, I have set up two node Active-passive cluster on VSphere 4.0 and it is in production ever since.
I've tried to setup another cluster for testing purposes on the same VSphere, and failed. And what is interesting is that those new two nodes came up with cluster.conf of the production cluster, even though I did not try to bring them in the existing production cluster. I googled a bit and found something stating that two different clusters might behave strane if on the same network segment. Question is, did anyone try to create two different clusters on the same hardware, or on the same network VLAN?
I will do some more digging after weekend, and get back to you.
OS Environment : Debian Squeeze, Gnome, Compiz, kernel 2.6.32-5 Hardwares : Pentium4, ATI Radeon 9600 AGP8x
After upgrading the kernel and restarted, I've been having an issue with the screen. After logged in through GDM, the screen starts distorting, creating small colorful object and blurry
Screenshots :
However, this problem does not exist on tty other than used by desktop ( tty1...tty6 is not affected ) And not in GDM too!!! My GDM shows up nicely, I let it there for hours and no distortion, no strange colors whatsoever.
KMS is enabled ( by default ) as I checked :
$ dmesg | grep drm
[ 5.373278] [drm] Initialized drm 1.1.0 20060810
[ 5.782595] [drm] radeon kernel modesetting enabled.
[Code]....
Installed ubuntu 10.10 without any problems. Everything works fine until i installed the ati display drivers. After this ubuntu shows me 3 different screens before login that apparently broken (see attachments). After the last screen the "normal" login screen is shown. If i dont use the drivers everything looks fine, but then my gpu fan (radeon 4890hd) runs at 100% which is a bit noisy.

More specifically, I'm trying to zip the important files in my root directory not including my home directory (which includes my documents which I backup separately/more frequently) to an external hard drive attached via USB (called 'My Book').Since File Roller didn't give me quite the level of control I was looking for, I created a script that I could execute to backup and archive regularly.

This is wat i executed:
rsync -a /root/ --exclude-from '/root/rules.txt' /root/backup/

- anaconda-ks.cfg
Somehow it doesnt read the rules.txt and it will always include the anaconda-ks.cfg file.
just wondering is there a simple script to convert datetime to UTC format. I have been searching different forums but most answers are for converting UTC to datetime. For example what is a simple command/script to convert todays datetime to UTC format i.e. '2009-10-09 11:47:59'.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI don't know why --exclude doesn't work when I use tar command. Please see this code
Code:
mahmood@pc:~$ l a/
1.txt 2.txt 3.txt b/
mahmood@pc:~$ tar cvjf compressed.tar.bz2 --exclude=/home/mahmood/a/b/ a/
a/
a/2.txt
a/1.txt
a/3.txt
a/b/
mahmood@pc:~$
As you can see although I excluded b/ but tar command ignored that.
I tried to run one grep that excludes symlinks and pipe it into a second that searches for my pattern but I continue to get the recursive directory loop error. As a result (I think) my grep is incomplete as the search just loops between directories symlinked together.

I have a 60GB hardisk, and try to install CENOS 5.5 HEL5.5 and Fedora13 on it. I partitioned the harddisk to 4 primary partitions like below:
Partition MountPoint Type
sda1 /boot ext3
sda2 VGRHEL LVM PV
sda3 VGCENT LVM PV
sda4 VGFEDORA LVM PV
I created 3 Volume Groups as you see up: VGRHEL, VGCENT, VGFEDORA; under every VG, i created 2 logical volumes ,just like below: VGRHEL=LVRHEL00(swap) + LVRHEL01(MountPoint: /) Below VG try to partition them the same as VGRHEL too. VGCENT=LVCEN00(swap) + LVCEN01(MountPoint: /) VGFEDORA=LVFEDORA00(swap) + LVFEDORA01(MountPoint: /)
I successed installed RHEL5.5 on VGRHEL, but when i try to use the same way to install CentOS 5.5, i got below error infromation: "Bootable Partitions cannot be on a logical volume" I don't why this happened, VGRHEL has logical volume too, but why i can install RHEL on it successfully.
I have a new Ultra 27 running debian and i cannot see the second internal harddisk any ideas what to do to rectify this.
View 4 Replies View Relatedim using rsync to sync files across multiple machines.
using the following:
rsync -az -e "ssh -o UserKnownHostsFile=/dev/null -o StrictHostKeyChecking=no"
--delete --delete-excluded --force --exclude=.git --exclude=.bundle
--exclude=tmp --exclude=log/* --exclude=*.log --exclude=*.pid
user@host:/path/to/src/ /var/build/dest
I want to exclude all log files from being transferred from the src to dest and delete all existing ones on the destination so im using --exclude=*.log with --delete-excluded which works great ...
but i want to keep a certain log file intact on the destination. I want a --exclude-from-delete option
Is this possible with rsync?
