General :: Configuring USB For BeagleBoard - Build The Kernel With USB Support ?
Mar 30, 2010
I have just started to work with BeagleBoard and built the Linux kernel (version 2.6.30.5) and download to the board and it start. I have also connected to the board over serial to Putty terminal.
Now I want to connect to the Beagle Board using USB instead of serial and I am looking for some info on how to do this.
My goal would be to connect to board over USB and then be able to:
* Download my own binary files/programs from PC over USB to BeagleBoard
* Communicate over USB instead of UART/Putty to get log and execute commands
Question:
How do I build the Linux kernel with USB support, meaning what settings should be ticked in menuconfig? Or is it already included?
How do I enable USB OTG in menu config?
I assume I would need some driver on my PC with Windows XP to connect to my BeagleBoard over USB. Were can I find this USB driver?

I am posting the output of different commands so you can understand better -i manually tried to link the build directories to kernel-source which failed - i am not sure exactly what kernel source is and how i can link to kernel source -

I am building a minimized 6.2.2 linux kernel using slackware on a dinosaur of a computer: AMD Athlon +1700 Single Core processor, 1gig of DDR SDRAM. This is my first time compiling a linux kernel, so before I make any major mistakes, I could use some help in determining which filesystems I absolutely must enable support for. Ext2 is allready in.

My Dell Precision Workstation was shipped in 2003 with RH Linux installed (most likely RHEL 4) - though not sure.
At the time, the dual monitors worked by replacing the X86config file with one sent from Dell.
Since, my disk failed and I had to replace the disk and reinstall RH Linux with the shipped disks, RHEL 5.
Now, I can not find X86config; rather, I have been trying to update the Xorg.conf file with no to limited success.
Both monitors are driven off of one Nvidia Quadro FX 1300 videocard. My goal is to get the screen to span both.
Does anyone have a Xorg.conf file that would support this?

I am trying to compile the kernel version 2.6.20-15 on my Linux 10.10 with 2.6.35-22 kernel. Additionally, this is my assignment. After I download kernel, extract it and create a new .config file for the new kernel I am trying to command;make-kpkg clean fakeroot make-kpkg --initrd --append-to-version=-custom kernel_image kernel_headers.after the second command I get an error an it says "nothing to be done" but I expect to have some .deb files for the new kernel. In addition this I have added a new system call to the kernel 2.6.20-15.

I'm trying to find out when QME2572 (Qlogic) card became support by the kernel. We have a RHEL 5.1 system that is moving to new hardware, however the kernel at this release doesn't support the new hardware, due to the Qlogic card change. I tired the Redhat KB and Bugzilla. Is there a Kernel change list etc I can search. Never really played around with the kernel too much so I'm just after some pointers for looking up this information. Offically its not supported until Redhat 5.3, I'm trying trying to research kernel info so I can tell the customer they have to upgrade.

AFAIK, in addition to implementing the standard C library, glibc provides wrappers for system calls, threading support, and basic application facilities. So because of that, glibc that will be used on my target system should be built based on the kernel version running on my target, right?
Based on the above, I am trying to build a glibc version for my target machine's kernel. However, I don't know to to build a glibc library for a target system and also where on the target's filesystem should be put? In which location Linux will start looking for the libraries required for a program to run (should I create an /etc/ld.so.conf file)?

Since new kernel 3.0 update I cannot rebuild vmware modules
Quote:
sudo vmware-modconfig --console --install-all Unable to initialize kernel module configuration
how to do that. Where do I insert the "CONFIG_LOCALVERSION" line.
Quote:
Same here. This seems to be due to the kernel version being "3.0" instead of "3.0.0". Recompiling the Kernel (and all modules based on it, e.g. nvidia) with
CONFIG_LOCALVERSION=".0-ARCH" allows me to compile the modules and run VMware.

Work I've got 2 slackware 13.1 64 machines, and they work just fine: Basic installation, everything ' bog standard 'When in Dolphin or Konqueror, I can ' click ' on Network Services and all the other MS Window machines pop-up.
@Home I've got 2 slackware 13.1 64 machines, they don't work fine. Basic installation, everything ' bog standard '. When in Dolphin or Konqueror, I can 'click' on Network Services and 'KDE has been build without Zeroconf support' pops up in Konqueror or is displayed in Dolpin..
Is it my netwerk @ Home (with an old Windows Server in it) or is something missing in the installation? Under MS windows (from within a virtualbox, brigded network) both machines can browse the network just perfectly: I even got a XP machine 'joined' in the domain on the windows server). Clueless since a google on the error + slackware give me Zero. Zeroconf in the slackware forum give me some midly related

I installed the latest Debian on an Atom 525 rig, with GMA 3150 integrated graphics. I have a 16:9 full HD monitor connected to the rig, but the available resolutions are not 16:9, except for the first and (roughly) the last:
1920x1080, 1680x1050, 1280x1024, 1152x864, 1024x768, 800x600, 640x480, 720x400
Now, 1920x1080 is the monitor's native resolution, but I really can't use it, stuff is just too small and not everything can be fixed by changing the system fonts' size. So I was wondering if there is a way to add some 16:9 resolutions, I'd look for 1600x900 and most of all 1280x720.I know that this usually gets done editing xorg.conf, but there's no such file in the /etc/X11 folder on my rig.

I compiled my own kernel with tun/tap and bridge support. Both modules load fine at boot time (I could read that in the dmesg output). Now I want to use it, and the /dev/net/tun node is not there, so my application gives that error. I'm trying to bridge openvpn connections. Is it possible that udevd is not doing his work?
PS: I'm on a WD MyBook World Ed NAS device. It's ARM, so I cross compiled the kernel from my debian linux machine. I also installed debian on the NAS.)

In regards to compiling a custom kernel:
When using make menuconfig - under Device Drivers --> Character Devices --> there should be an option with the label "Enhanced Real Time Clock Support" (CONFIG_JS_RTC).
The problem is that this option seems to only show up while using the menu method when other options are either enabled or disabled and I've entirely forgotten what should be what. I swear fingered it out once.
This is on an older computer (P4) so HPET is no good.
You would think that disabling the HPET option would enable the RTC option but that does not appear to be the case.
I understand I can just add the option to the .config file and avoid this hassle but I'm very interested to know how to make this work.
To show my appreciation I will do something nice for you such as call you a nice name or tell you that you are pretty (or ugly if that's what you prefer).
