Digging around online I found this "experimental" driver that purportedly works fine, but I have no idea how to compile, install, or otherwise use it. Here... tetromino's lenovo-sl-laptop at master - GitHub I'm not sure what to do with the makefile and C file provided. For example, what do I do with this instruction...
"To enable the brightness control, load the module with the "control_backlight=1" module parameter (i.e. insmod lenovo-sl-laptop.ko control_backlight=1 )" I know someone on here will be able to explain how to do this in a "computer engineering for chemists" language! I'm comfortable enough working in the terminal with commands, but have found no real straightforward explanation of how to do so (only "programming" experience is MATLAB m file writing).
Debian :: Installing Kernel Sources - Make Command To Build Package Fails
Jul 22, 2010I'm trying to build the package zaptel on debian, but I'm encountering two errors:
1- When I try to run the "make menuselect" command, I get an error stating that I need ncurses which is missing. I tried to get it installed but didn't get to do it yet.
2- After that, there's the command "make" I think it's to build the package. Yet again this fails, and the error I get is "you do not appear to have the sources for the 2.6.26-2-686 kernel installed".

Nov 27, 2010I am trying to compile the kernel version 2.6.20-15 on my Linux 10.10 with 2.6.35-22 kernel. Additionally, this is my assignment.After I download kernel, extract it and create a new .config file for the new kernel I am trying to command;make-kpkg clean fakeroot make-kpkg --initrd --append-to-version=-custom kernel_image kernel_headers.after the second command I get an error an it says "nothing to be done" but I expect to have some .deb files for the new kernel. In addition this I have added a new system call to the kernel 2.6.20-15.

Mar 30, 2010I have just started to work with BeagleBoard and built the Linux kernel (version 2.6.30.5) and download to the board and it start. I have also connected to the board over serial to Putty terminal.
Now I want to connect to the Beagle Board using USB instead of serial and I am looking for some info on how to do this.
My goal would be to connect to board over USB and then be able to:
* Download my own binary files/programs from PC over USB to BeagleBoard
* Communicate over USB instead of UART/Putty to get log and execute commands

Jun 10, 2010First, I'm trying to cross compile mono 2.6.4 so that it will run on Freescale Embedded Linux for a PowerPC CPU. My host machine is running Fedora 13 on an x86. Freescale provides a copy of the Linux Target Image Builder (LTIB) that has been pre-configured for the particular board I'm using, and LTIB seems to be able to help with the cross compilation of other stuff--you can add in your own packages to be built and included in your newly-built Linux image.
Mono depends on pkg-config and glib-2, so I have selected them in the LTIB package selection config. I've also added a new package for mono that builds mono-2.6.4 from the source tar (after the other deps have also been built).
I'm having a problem getting the glib-2.24.0 package libraries created. Basically they appear to build and link ok, but then libtool runs and errors out claiming it has a syntax error! (numerous wths followed...)

There is actually another problem with the computer which is "The Nautilus application has quit unexpectedly" everytime I open File Browser application or right-click>Properties a file/directory. This happen only after installing cairo and pango and I don't know how to revert to old version. Since there are a lot of log files so I'm very confused. Can someone give me a direction on how to resolve this?
