I am developing a GUI program, and I use as OS the linux kernel (it is for an embedded device). I am wondering if I have to make available the GNU license from the GUI itself?

I searched around and found out the kernel accepts only GPL modules, which is pretty dumb. People recommended using rpmfusion's akmods, but that's what I'm using to begin with.
How can I fix this without having to recompile the kernel?

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have written some really basic loadable kernel modules. There are a couple of concepts that i'll like to get cleared.
In a tutorial, the Makefile was given as follows-
obj-m += try.o
all:
make -C /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build M=$(PWD) modules
clean:
make -C /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build M=$(PWD) clean
I understand that -C option of 'make' changes the current directory to /lib/modules/$(shell uname -r)/build (which depends on my kernel).
Now, my question is why to change to that particular directory? Also M=$(PWD) will hold the dir where i have written the module. Why is it required? What does 'modules' at the end of that line indicate?
Q2> We need to include <linux/module.h> and <linux/kernel.h> in a module. If i am right, the module uses kernel headers for these definitions. But how does 'make' find these definitions.
Q3> We are planning to write a custom scheduler for linux kernel. cat /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler gives us the currently loaded schedulers. How do we expose our scheduler to linux kernel so that we can use it by switching to it.
I dual-boot my machine and I want it to default to boot into windows so that whenever I restart the machine remotely from my home it will be able to get back into Windows (instead of Ubuntu).
The problem is that every time Ubuntu upgrades the kernel, I have to reset the default boot item of grub back to windows. This is because the grub menu loader uses positions i.e. 6 for default OS to boot. And when Ubuntu installs a new kernel it changes that order.
I am looking for a way to configure grub to remember its default boot item under kernel updates.

I've just ran update manager to be presented with a pop-up window with Microsoft EULA for MS fonts intaller. I do not want to accept it, but the "back" button isn't working and the only other present button is "forward". The Thinkpad came with XP, but the license key has rubbed off. When I received the Thinkpad, it was running Ubuntu only, and I never bothered to investigate re-installing Windows. Basically, I want to recover the license key so I don't have to blow $150 or however much Windows 7 costs these days.
