I'm compiling a project that uses boost libraries (1.45.0) for a MIPS target, and when trying to compile with bjam I get the following error:
Code:

I have a third party static library (libSTATIC.a) that I cannot recompile into a shared library. I want to create a shared library (libSHARED.so) that uses the C functions in the static library. Is it possible to do this? In other words, when linking a C program with gcc by using the -shared flag, is it necessary that all all libraries invoked in the program (even low level libraries such as libc for example) be available as shared libraries as well?

As I am learning everyday Slackware, there is something that it doesn't make sense to me. It is about libraries. I tried to install Playonlinux via slackbuild and if I am not wrong this package required a library named libnss3 ). This library was found in seamonkey, a program uninstalled by me. I had to reinstall it in order to build Playonlinus. Now playonlinux runs fine. My question is: why aren't all the libraries included separately on Slackware or its website in order to build automatically everypackage? Is is a huge list? It doesn't make sense to install a package that I will never use in order to have a library..

I didn't do enough research beforehand and just discovered that while gcc 4.1 is still packaged, g++ 4.1 is not. I am working on a project with unsupported libraries (don't ask) and can only build successfully with g++ 4.1.*I see that there are packages for Lenny. Is it safe to install these under Squeeze?Being new here I am not sure where else to look for third party packages is, so if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be great. I'd very much prefer not to try to build from source as I'll almost certainly clobber my 4.4 install in the process.

Why many Linux distros are trying to use always the latest versions of the libraries and don't save the old libraries for compatibility? I mean, I can see libtiff for example, i can found a libtiff.so.5 on my /usr/lib, but doesn't store a libtiff.so.4 or 3 just for binary applications or games. For this example, I need libtiff.so.4 for uplink.
That should happen too on the old version of sims for linux, some ID games or others.What's wrong with storing old libraries? PD: Yay, my first post on 3 years!

I'm using the FortiClient SSL VPN free version provided by my University. I can't get tech support from the university OR Fortigate. I have it running on one system, but I have no idea what the sequence of libraries I installed was. I need it to run on a second machine. pstree is only telling me that the FortiClient ssl daemon depends on pppd. I need to know how to find out what else it's using: LibPKCS and the like.

I'm using debian and, though i'm new to c++, i'm writing a program using it which needs some HTTPs functionalities . I found these libcurl libraries could help me but I haven been able to use them from my program. I installed them (power trio configure -make -make install ) but i guess i'm doing something wrong ... i feel like i should copy or link them somehow in my project (besides the include sentences in my code). I hope you could give me a hand with this im quite lost

I'm trying to build a spi program using c++. I'm able to perform half-duplex transfers using the read/write functions, it works perfectly. Now I need to perform a full-duplex transfer, but I'm facing some problems. When I try to receive more than one byte, the slave returns to me only one byte.Ex: I send: FF FF FF FF FF The slave must return: 03 02 00 13 04 But what is happening is:
1st Transfer:
tx: FF FF FF FF FF
rx: 03 00 00 00 00
2nd Transfer:
tx: FF FF FF FF FF
rx: 02 00 00 00 00

I'd like to build a .deb file which will contain my Perl program. I just want it to be deployed with dpkg -i on debian systems later. So it's just a matter of having the good arborescence in my .deb package. For that purpose, in the debian/rules file, I'm declaring some dh_install lines in the install rule.
My issue is that I know how to achieve my goal, but only with writing a ton of dh_install lines (one line, for one file...)
example :
clean:
dh_testdir
dh_clean
install: build

I am new to the whole concept of makefiles, and I'm trying to compile and build my program using a makefile template I have found. My project consists of three directories: "source", where my .cpp files are (source1.cpp, source2.cpp, source3.cpp), "include", where my .h files are (header1.h, header2.h, header3.h), and "obj", where the object files are to be stored (obj1.o, obj2.o, obj3.o). In the project root directory is my makefile, which is as follows:
Code:
EXEC = myexe
CC = g++
IDIR = include
SDIR = source
ODIR = obj

One can see there two types of exceptions: ORGNoCompetenceException and SocketException.
I will filter out the name/type of exception and the number of each type of exception. At last, this statistic data will write to file and create a Excel table.

#include <stdio.h>
int main()

int length, width, length, height, area, perimeter;
perimeter = width + length + height;
area = width * length + heigth;

i dont see any error (you might)but every time i run it it runs but after it asks me to input for the width i do it but it doesn't take me to the length, it just stays blank until i input another value in the same place for the width, it asks me for 4 inputs in total i don;t know why, and after i run it different times it gives me different values for the perimeter and are. how can I fix this?

I'm in love with my Opensuse 11.2. Love my KDE 4.4. The only thing I miss from my Ubuntu installation, is the ability to use Boxee. I would be more than willing to compile Boxee from source. I only have 2 problems with that:
1) I don't know where I can find all the build-deps or what they are for that matter to build Boxee.
2) I'm running on a Netbook. Yes, my measly Intel Atom is no fun for compiling and building.
What are my options/what can I do to get Boxee up and running on 11.2? I've tried searching on build service for an RPM, but I think due to legal restrictions, Boxee can't be on there.

Trying to install SW 13.1 (on DVD) on the following system: M/B Intel: DX38BT Processor Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 - 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Socket 775 Memory Corsair Dual Channel 8192MB PC10600 DDR3 1333MHz Memory (4x2048MB) Graphics Diamond Radeon HD 3850 Video Card - Viper, 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 P/S Ultra 1000W
My goal is to install the i386 build on one partition and the 64-bit build on another. I have been away from Linux for a while and am sick to death of Win7, want to come home. :-}
Booted on i386 side of DVD, system freezes after a couple of lines that start with ATA2. Does not respond to 3 finger salute, ctrl-c, nothing. Have to press reset. I have tried both huge.s and hugesmp.s kernels
Booted on 64-bit side, comes up fine. I performed the install, selected for automatic lilo install. Lilo install hung but I was able to reboot. I booted off the 64-bit side again, entered the following: huge.s root=/dev/sde3 rdinit= ro It booted fully to the login prompt but the keyboard does not work, no input.

What can you do when your linux system "can't find" dynamically linked libraries that are indeed installed in their correct locations? Case in point, I'm trying to run a program called 'ucanvcam':
oliver@human ~/installed/ucanvcam-0.1.6/bin $ ./ucanvcam
./ucanvcam: error while loading shared libraries: libgd.so.2: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
oliver@human ~/installed/ucanvcam-0.1.6/bin $ locate libgd.so.2
/usr/lib64/libgd.so.2.0.0
/usr/lib64/libgd.so.2
oliver@human ~/installed/ucanvcam-0.1.6/bin $ ldd ./ucanvcam
linux-gate.so.1 => (0xf7706000)
[...]
libgd.so.2 => not found
[...]
librt.so.1 => /lib32/librt.so.1 (0xf6b1e000)
How can I tell it to look for libgd.so.2 in /usr/lib64? And more importantly, why isn't it looking there, and where is it looking?
