CentOS 5 :: Emptied Cron.daily Accidently ?

Nov 25, 2010

I made a big rookie mistake in a script in cron.daily, which emptied the directory when I tested it... now I'm left with an empty cron.daily directory, and from what I know there definitely were more scripts there than only my own. Does anybody know what scripts CentOS 5.4 (Final) needs in the cron.daily?

General :: Delete All Files On A Server With A Particular Filename?

Mar 23, 2011

I run 5GBFree.com a free hosting site. As you can imagine, it gets quite a few people signing up to abuse the service.Recently I've found a LOT of people setting up sites with a particular script that floods forums and IRC chat rooms. The names of the files are as follows:

peindom1.php
peindom2.php
peindom3.php
peindom4.php

Is there a command I can run to remove files with these filenames ANYWHERE on the server (so basically, a command to go through all folders on the server and remove instances of that name

Installation :: Dual CentOS - Windows 7 Boot - Had To Delete CentOS Partition And No Grub Menu

Sep 19, 2010

3 partitions (in order): Windows 7, CentOS and shared data partition.

I need to increase the size of the Windows 7 partition (c:windowswinsxs seems to be something not easily remedied).

GParted didn't work in moving things around (bad sector) so I wiped out its partition (# 2 out of 3) and I was able to increase the size of the Windows 7 partition (I can reinstall CentOS easily and not much work lost).

Except ... no more grub menu (unsurprising). This incantation does allow me to boot into Windows 7.

Is there any way of rebuilding the grub menu short of reinstalling CentOS (5.5)?

Fedora :: Accidently Deleted F12

Jan 22, 2010

So I installed F12 x86_64 version the other day. Everything was going okay. So today I signed on to my windows 7 instead. While I was on it. I was looking at the extra space I had allocated for F12. Well I thought I was going to delete that but I actually deleted the F12 partition. This means that I don't have a MBR anymore. Is there anyway I can get my original MBR back onto my windows 7? I'm going to buy a separate hard drive to install windows 7 later. I just would like to know if I really screwed up by deleting F12. If this helps, it did switch my bootloader from the main MBR in 7, to grub. I tried EasyBCD to reinstall it but it keeps say it failed.

CentOS 5 :: How To Delete NBD Devices

Aug 15, 2011

I have created a number of network block devices that I would like to delete, but I have been unable to find any information to do this.

I am using Centos 5.6 and my kernel is 2.6.18-238.el5.

I have been searching the internet for two days now and have noticed some other UNIX systems do have utilities for deleting unwanted devices but nothing for linux.

I created these devices with the vmware supplied PERL script vmware-mount.pl which in turn calls mknod.

The commands would look like:

mknod /dev/nbd0 b 43 0
mknod /dev/nbd1 b 43 1
......

I have tried deleting them from /dev which works temporarily but they come back when I reload the nbd module i.e.

modprobe -r nbd
modprobe nbd

and also if I reboot.

There is a directory tree for each device under /sys/block and I'm guessing this is how /dev is getting repopulated. I cannot remove the directory trees from /sys/block. I get this when I try:

rm: cannot remove `nbd15/queue/iosched/slice_idle': Operation not permitted
rm: cannot remove `nbd15/queue/iosched/slice_async_rq': Operation not permitted
...... there are 25 lines like this ....

When I do a vgsan I see this:Reading all physical volumes. This may take a while...

/dev/nbd0: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 0: Input/output error
/dev/nbd0: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 2199022141440: Input/output error

and in the messages log I see this:

Aug 15 21:04:06 udon-desktop kernel: nbd15: Attempted send on closed socket
Aug 15 21:04:06 udon-desktop kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev nbd15, sector 0

Allright, I made a simple script that tarballs my SQL databases weekly and saves them to a backup harddrive. If possible, I would like to have the backups uploaded to a remote server for storage. But, I must have the script delete the previous upload for size contraints.I can only use rsync, scp or sftp. Haven't used any of them really before... Here's my basic tarball-backup script:

Code:
#/bin/sh

So I am working on a clients PC, and after I saved their data on an external hard drive I left it plugged in while I reinstalled Windows for them.....I HATE Windows. Stupid OS doesnt know any better than to just go deleting everything. Ubuntu would have known better than to delete multiple hard drives like that.

Anyway, please tell me I can salvage this data for my client? It was probably just reformatted. The data should still be there right?

Ubuntu :: Accidently Removed Gnome And No Available Internet Connection?

Jun 24, 2011

emoving some applications/libraries in synaptics and accidentally removed gnome-core.I am on a wpa2 hidden wireless network, and getting that up and running through the terminal in recovery mode has been killer, I've searched about half a dozen threads and nothing is seeming to work.My wired like is pretty far away and I really do not want to keep moving my desktop all over the house. When in the terminal i type apt-get install gnome-core it tells me I need to download 11 new packages, of course it fails because theres no connection. Is there any way I could use a command to compile a list packages I need to reinstall gnome-core, manually retrieve them from the ftp.us.debian.org, save them to eternal media and install them with dpkg -i *.deb?
