I have a windows 7 computer running Xming 6.9.0.31. I connect to my linux box running Ubuntu Server 9.10 with plink and run urxvt. It starts up and works perfectly however the urxvt screen flashes the xming root window about twice a second. This makes urxvt impossible to work with.Everything else that I have tested over the ssh connection (xterm, xfce4-terminal, etc) work perfectly with no flashing and this same problem has happened with two other linux installations (again only with urxvt)

I've been spending sometime trying to setup anclient on windowso access my fedora serverI'm currently using xming but there's no way whatsoeverme to make gnome available remotely. The closest I got was to open a standard X session with no icons but just a terminal. Is there any quick sanity check I can do before spending more time on this

I currently have two computers at my desk, 1 is Fedora 12 and the other is Windows Vista. I am using the synergy client to share mouse/keyboard but I would like to run Xming which is a Xserver for windows to display on my Windows machine. I have 3 monitors 1 is connected to the Linux machine and then I have 2 connected to the windows vista and I want to share 1 one using a windows Xserver. I have the server installed and setup on my windows machine and I just curios on how to configure my Xorg.conf file to use my Xming Xserver as a seccond monitor.

I am using XMing+Putty to access a Linux machine from an XP32 machine. I can copy text from windows and paste it to Linux fine, but I can't copy from Linux and paste to Windows consistently. If I try several times (or hold down the paste keystroke) it will eventually paste; sometimes several times!
I would like to improve the consistency of my Linux to Window pastes. I have per-mutated every combo of Clipboard and Clipboard2. I can not edit /etc/gdm/custom.conf like some other fixes suggest. I have been informed the Linux admins will not allocate resources to resolve this problem in the near future so any fixes need to be Windows side or able to be done without root/admin privileges.

I'm running Eclipse on a Linux server and I'm displaying it locally through xwindow forwarding using xming.Whenever I create something like a subwindow (like opening project properties or the Project Explorer when when pulled out of the main window), these windows are not resizable. When running natively on Linux, the resize is possible without a problem.

I had Xming working great with XDMCP on my Debian 6 server at work. I had to replace the UPS and when I brought the machine back up xming/XDMCP no longer worked correctly. When I launch Xming and connect to XDMCP session I get the Xming window, the X Cursor but the GDM login window never appears. So I am getting some level of connectivity. The only change that was made to the server was that OpenVPN service was turned on. I do not know if this is the right log to be looking at but /var/log/gdm3/:0-greeter.log has this in it a number of times:
(polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1:2252): polkit-gnome-1-WARNING **: Error enumerating temporary authorizations: Remote Exception invoking org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Authority.EnumerateTemporaryAuthorizations() on /org/freedesktop/PolicyKit1/Authority at name org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1: org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1.Error.Failed: Cannot determine session the caller is in

I have a hp pc that has a hard drive of 750 gb and a recovery hard drive of 31gb. I installed linux side by side with windows 7 for dual booting. Now I can't boot windows 7 anymore. During the installation of linux, I chose the advanced option so as to manually partition the drives for linux. On the available list of drives, I chose the 750gb and clicked on modify. I chose 150gb for the root "/" (on ext4) and 700mb for swap out of the 750gb and clicked install. After finishing the installation I restarted the pc and sought to test linux. The linux works fine but when i tried to start windows, I have a boot error. My pc doesn't seem to recognize windows anymore. It takes me straight to the HP recovery tool. I don't understand why. So I logged into ubuntu and check the disk utility and I discovered that I have a whooping 600gb unallocated space. It's like my whole windows is gone. This is what Disk Utilty shows
150gb ext4 | Free 600gb | RECOVERY 31GB NTFS | HP_TOOLS 108MB FAT
What can I do to recover my windows back?

I've read that, when configuring a dual-boot system, you should install Windows first to avoid any issues. Some questions: I'm assuming this has to do with the boot loader so: How is Windows boot loader so different that this matters? If I'm totally off, please explain. Is this the same case with Windows 7 and Windows XP? Depending on question 1 of course: Will installing Windows later on mean that it will definitely not work or just that you might encounter issues later on? Some tutorials are kind of ambiguous about that point.

My goal is to install Windows 7 on a virtual machine running on Ubuntu. The Lenovo machine came with Windows 7 installed, but did not come with a boot disk. What are my options? Should I ask Lenovo for a disk? Will I need to purchase Windows just for the virtual machine?

I previously had an install of Windows 7 on one drive, and an install of Fedora on the other hard drive. I have a partition on the second drive for GRUB, and the normal Windows bootloader partition on the first drive. I previously had it set up with EasyBCD to be able to chainload the bootloader on the second hard drive, however now with Windows 8 installed in addition to Windows 7 and Linux, it only shows the menu options for Windows (It only shows Windows 7/8 in the boot menu).
Is it still possible to boot Linux from the Windows bootloader?

What I'm looking to do is to use Linux to help me remove malware and etc. from any Windows based computer. We are currently using 32-bit Dell computers with Windows XP SP3. New computer orders are 64-bit Windows 7. Previously, I have used Ghost to create images, but it is getting harder to have all the different images saved and other criterias. My plan is to create an USB Linux boot with the Windows software to remove malware, trojans and all the others. I currently have an 8Gb USB flash drive to use for this project. I was looking at Puppy Linux, but I think there is something messing whether it be with puppy or me. I am not limiting myself to just this project. This just happens to be one selected and approved by my bosses. Since we are using both platforms in this school district -- Macs and PCs. Eventually, I should be able to use my laptop with at least a dual boot environment.

II'm a front-end web developer, I've always developed on Windows with technologies like XHTML, CSS, Javascript and Flash, I've dabbled with PHP and MySQL. I am well used to Windows workflows and tools, from Photoshop to Notepad++, Filezilla and WAMP server stacks to After Effects, and a swathe more - but always on Windows.I'm at a point where I think I need to start seriously developing on a Linux box, specifically at the moment to create web apps based on Node.js, but compiling tools and programs has become a task I'm more frequently required to do.
My question? I need to get my hands on a user-friendly install of Linux, but which one? I need common interface developer tools (lists welcome) to replace... well as many tools I have on Windows as possible.I need to be readily connected to the internet, I need OS updates to not destroy my workflow by crashing the OS, as I've seen Ubuntu do to various friends. I want efficiency, I need to be able to customise what I need to in order to perform development tasks.I guess this could be a long list, but - I don't have practical working knowledge of the Linux OS, nor how it "compares" to Windows (excuse my faux pas). I'm obviously willing to learn, but I'm far, far more keen to just... continue interface development, just on Linux instead of Windows.

I've just bought new Eee PC 1005 (with Atom N450, 250GB and 2GB memory) without any pre-installed system. Now I'd like to install windows and linux distribution on in. What should I choose ? I am a programmer and web designer, so I need Java IDE , Python interpreters, and Photoshop (on windows). Will Win 7 Pro 32bit work ?Or should I choose Windows XP ? And what about linux distro ? Ubuntu, Eeebuntu, Ubuntu netbook edition ?
btw is it true that linux's grub overrides mbr so that hardware system restore doesn't work ?
