Fedora :: Setting Crontab Or Equivalent On Network?
Aug 14, 2011I have been using a private computer on my departmental network. I am now in the process of switching to the public system. This is a system of different computers, each of which mounts the same homeserver directories for users. One may login to any of these machines and see the same home directory. The department is running a clone of Red Hat Enterprise Linux called Scientific Linux. It is not a lot different from Fedora Linux.
I copied a crontab entry form my private machine and ran crontab -e on one of these computers. I suppose it will now do what needs doing, but what if I need to change the entry or add other entries. I will have to search around for the one computer on which crontab is running. Is there some global network way to do the same thing, i.e., so that I can edit the crontab entries from any machine in the public network?

Jul 21, 2010I was wondering if there's any way for a laptop to be both simultaneously connected to a wireless network, while at the same time acting as an ad-hoc network with local access to serve as a wifi connection for my mobile device, which would be ssh-ing into the laptop and using local resources.

I want my desktop clients to authenticate against a DC, but Im not sure what would take the place of a Domain Controller in Linux. In addition, I am not sure if I could be able to manage user rights via a central server.
I have read about Samba as a domain controller, but Im not sure if that is what I want. In addition, I have read about LDAP, but again Im not sure if that is what I need to use. When I researched RADIUS servers, I was even more confused.
Fedora Networking :: F13 WiFi - Network - Can't Connect To The Internet
Sep 25, 2010I just installed Fedora 13 64bit Gnome, but I can't connect to the internet for some odd reason.

I have marked the network icon, but on my desktop I don't have that icon for some reason...
Since I'm new @ Linux(Picking it up again) I went to the services and checked 2 services:
The network manager service was running but the status said: This service is dead.
And the network service was also running but status was: The status of this service is unknown.
I also went to the Administration menu and checked Network, the first tab showed no devices, but when I went to the hardware tab it did show my card.
I also don't believe that this is hardware problem since the card worked just fine under Fedora 9 or 10(Don't remember).
So if anyone got some solutions for me it would be great...

May 29, 2011Wifi network operated perfectly with f13. Upgrading f13 to f14 did not show any problems except for networking. It seems that the wlan0-link is not ready. Consequently no network information about adresses can be obtained. Tried with network tools to activate wlan0. No reaction Tried to deactivate Networkmanager and bring network up with
service NetworkManager stop
ifconfig -a
Then
ifconfig wlan0 up
dhclient wlan0
No reaction on network. The NetworkManager icon disappears which is understandable.

Jul 1, 2011I had a problem with the new network manager a week ago and got it solved with help from the forum so now I'm back again. I have a dual boot with Windows 7 (I have to use it when serving my corporate masters) so I wasn't in my Fedora partition much this week.
I just noticed this and I'm positive it wasn't doing it before my network manager problem but I'm not sure when it started or if they're related.
I'm running F15. The machine is an HP Elitebook 8440p and has a wifi light that is also a touch button to turn the wireless on/off. Whenever there is activity on the network now it blinks between orange and blue. I know that isn't really a big deal but it's really annoying and is driving me completely nuts!! The normal behavior is orange when it's off, solid blue when it's on (or connected) and blinks orange/blue just while it's connecting. During network activity it's always been just solid blue and that's what I want.
I found a script that some Ubuntu users said fixed the same problem but when I tried to copy it the directory they said to put it in "/etc/network/ifup.d" doesn't exist. I'm assuming that's a distro difference between Ubuntu and Fedora?
Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas how to fix it?

Dec 22, 2009Ive been using fedora 11 fora few months now and suddenly today after I booted up fedora network authentication(the little icon that lets me choose wifi networks) isnt showing up in the upper right hand corner which isnt that big of a problem but the fact that its on start up applications and its not wondering is what Im wondering about but on top of that my internet doesnt work at all.It will work for a little bit after boot then die and when I go to network authentication and network manager no wifi networks show up and I have about 5 around my house not including my own which is also what ive been wondering.

I think the network uses 802.1X authentication, because when the other students connects to the network for the first time in Windows they enter their username and password then the connection is established. I have asked the the IT staff but they do not known what 802.1X, PEAP EAP etc. is and just say "Enter the login details in the box!".
If I bring a Windows 7 machine to school and successful connects to the network, is it then possible for me to extract the information [and extract a certificate if used on the network] from Windows somehow so i can setup the wpa_supplicant.conf correctly on Debian?
The information I want to extract is which protocols are used, like PEAP,MSCHAP etc.

Aug 6, 2010I know Windows forward and backward but I am so new to linux it's just wrong. I just installed fedora (like 1hr ago) on and old toshiba laptop with a WiFi PC card. Everything seems to work fine except. My Networks connects to my home Wifi network but it will not connect to internet. When it connects the IP address isn't even close to being in the same range as my other laptops and PCs. Like I said I'm new to linux but I'm wanting to learn. Any fixes for this issue? Which linus book is the best one to read for a beginner? Other then not connecting to internet I have no complaints.

Jun 20, 2009I'm having trouble getting my wifi devices to work on my 128bit WEP network. I have a new Thinkpad T400, with an internal Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN. I also have some cardbus cards: a Lucent ORiNOCO Gold, a Linksys Wireless-G, and a TRENDnet TEW-421PC. I have them set up as interfaces eth2, eth1, and eth3. (The TRENDnet isn't recognised as a network card at all, so no interface for it.) I have installed the latest firmware for the Linksys card.
The /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-* files are virtually identical for all of them, differing only in the HWADDR and DEVICE lines. So here's the behaviour:
1. The Lucent card comes up just fine.
2. The internal 5100AGN and the Linksys cards won't come up, and watching with iwconfig shows that they're either associated with my AP OR they've got an encryption key set -- but not both.
3. When trying to bring up the 5100AGN, I get the following messages:
iwlagn: index 0 not used in uCode key table
iwlagn: index 3 not used in uCode key table
/var/log/messages shows DHCPDISCOVER requests being sent, but they're bound to fail since the association with the AP with WEP isn't being completed. And yes, the ifcfg-* files really *are* identical except for the DEVICE and HWADDR lines. The /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules file correctly maps the interfaces to the MAC addresses. So why does my antique ORiNOCO card work and thew newer ones fail? How can I track down what's being done wrong/not being done?
