General :: VM Server Can't Attach To The NFS Share?

Aug 4, 2011

I have a question about NFS and CentOS 6.0. Here is the environment: Server running VMware's esxi 3.5 (Fully patched) 10.1.1.50 Server running CentOS 5.5 with NFS. 10.1.1.51 With the systems in the above config everything is working fine. Install a new hard drive in the CentOS server and install CentOS 6.0. Use the same IP 10.1.1.51. Configure NFS, the VM server can't attach to the NFS share.

Here is the config of the NFS server:
Firewall Disabled
SELinux Disabled
NFS installed and running.
NFS-Utils installed.
Contents of /etc/exports

[Code]...

I have confirmed I can telnet to the ports listed. Any clue why the setup with CentOS 6.0 doesn't work? Is this a NFS4 vs. NFS3 thing? Is there a way to force CentOS to use NFS3? I am pretty sure the CentOS 5.5 server is using NFS4.

Server :: How To Protect Website From Such Attach And Similar

Jan 19, 2011

Today I've found several attempt to access the following url on my website: [URL] After googleing a bit it seems that in some cases, using this attack, the bag guy is able to change the code in some of your files. it also seems to affect only a certain version of oScommerce. I don't use oScommerce, so I do believe that I'm on the safe side, but it's not the first time that I see some similar attempt of attack on my website. So to protect my self I was wondering if using .htaccess restriction would be enough?

Code:

########## Begin - Rewrite rules to block out some common exploits
#
RewriteEngine on
Options +FollowSymLinks

[code]....

But I do think that these rewrite string are more specificity write to protect oScommerce site. how to protect my web site from such attach and similar?

General :: Win Storage Server 2k8 Share To OpenSUSE 10.3 - NFS Preferably

Jul 20, 2010

My Goal: I'm migrating data from the OpenSUSE server to the 2008 Storage Server. The idea is that all the data will reside on the 2008 Storage Server in an NFS share which will be mounted to the OpenSUSE server in the same location in which the data sat in initially.

I'd like this to be completely transparent to everyday use -- all programs designed to interact from a few other servers / computers will still work without modification, and, more importantly, all file permissions can remain the same. As far as I've seen the SMB mounting doesn't full preserve the *nix file permissions. I'm hoping the NFS mount will, but please tell me if I'm wrong. SMB is so much more straight-forward and already working. I should also note speed is a giant plus for NFS.

The Players:
Windows Server 2003 - The Active Directory server
Windows Storage Server 2008 - The new file server
OpenSUSE 10.3 - The workhorse server

I have no control over the operating system choice. I have no control over the AD server. I have limited, intermittent access to the person who does have full control of the AD server. I have full control over the file server and the workhorse server.

What I've done: The Storage Server is running Services for Network File System (NFS). It has a 6.5ish TB RAID partition configured for NFS and Samba/CIFS sharing which is used for the data storage. The Samba/CIFS share is mountable and accessible, but I haven't found a way to maintain proper user permissions on the files. When I connect the owner and group for every file is root:root, which led me to NFS in hopes this would fix the problem.

The AD server admin has installed Services for Unix, and we imported the OpenSUSE passwd and group file. Either this didn't work, or it take a bit more configuration. Tomorrow morning we're going to take a deeper look into the SFU configuration with the AD.

Right now I can mount the NFS share on the OpenSUSE under the root account:

Command results truncated to what I think is relevant info. Ask if you need more.

Code:

My Problems:

I'm hoping the "Permission denied" error is solely because the UID and GID mappings are incorrect. I have, however, tried to create an NFS share with full permissions to "Everyone" and anonymous access, and I get the same results.

Also I've run into another roadblock. Why do non-root accounts fail to execute the mount /mnt/datadir command?

Code:

AFAIK 1048 is not a restricted port, so regular users should have access to bind to the port. I also have a Gentoo machine where regular users are allowed to execute the command. The 'mount' command shows that the NFS share was mounted with the username executing the command too.

Server NFS Config:

Code:

The following are the settings on localhost

The above was written yesterday and not posted in hopes I could solve the problem this morning. I failed.

Update: The domain admin installed an NIS server on the AD server. I installed an NIS server on a Gentoo Linux box. They weren't able to communicate. The Linux box thought the Windows NIS service wasn't running and Windows couldn't find the Linux machine. NIS led to a dead-end right about there. I also tried to manually link the user accounts to UNIX UIDs via the AD user properties window to no avail.

General :: Unable To Mount Windows Server 2008 Share?

Aug 22, 2010

I am trying to mount a shared drive on a Windows Server 2008 machine using a Linux machine (Fedora 13). I try mounting by

# mount //HOSTNAME/SHARENAME /mnt/FOLDER

and I get mount error(13): Permission denied.

I have tried other options like # mount -t nfs //HOSTNAME/SHARENAME /mnt/FOLDER -o username=USERNAME and the same thing with different filesystem types (ntfs, smbfs, cifs).

I have:

checked all firewall configurations.
verified security/sharing settings
for the drive
verified registry keys under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesNfsSvrParameters
verified NFS server is running

I am familiar with Windows Server 2008 but I have never configured a system from scratch on my own. The computer I'm using used to have Windows 7 for sharing folders to a Linux server. I have just switched to Server 2008 and have not been able to mount anymore.

One thing that I think is that I tried setting up an identity mapping solution; however, I do not have a domain controller setup. I am still functioning on a workgroup.

General :: Mounting Windows 2008 Server Share On Red Hat 4 Machine?

Jun 8, 2010

I am having issues mounting a share on a Windows 2008 Server from all of our Redhat 4 machines. I am trying to back up files before wiping and upgrading them to 5. I will try and post as much information that I gathered after trying different things. I am a newer hire for this network and a Linux newbie.

The scenario is this:

1. Windows 2008 Active Directory.
2. Redhat Enterprise 4 machines

I have root access and I tried entering at the terminal:

" smbclient -L "servername" -U "username"

get the "password" prompt I enter my password and get:

"session setup failed: NT_STATUS_ACCOUNT_LOCKED_OUT."

I check event viewer on the 2008 box and last week was seeing:

Event ID: 4625
Keywords: Audit Failure
etc, etc
"Account for which Logon failed:
Security ID: NULL SID
Account name: anonymous
Account Domain:MYGROUP
Failure Information:
Failure Reason: Uknown user name or bad password
etc, etc

Now the last couple of days the audit failures have not shown up on the 2008 Server box even though I attempted to log in.

The end users used to just use Konquerer smb://"servername"/"share" and it worked but for some reason starting last week this no longer works. Nothing was changed that I know of, this network is in a sealed classified environment with no external access. All additions to the network are monitored and no unapproved software is installed. The lab is in a vault type environment and only a few people know the combination and alarm pass codes so no chance of somebody adding stuff without me knowing it.

I would think with the locked out message it was an issue with my user account but that works fine on the Windows side so I tried my Linux credentials with no success when trying to mount the directory.

Is there something anybody can suggest Linux or Windows side to check? No user accounts work connecting to the Windows share.

p.s. I am aware the above command is only to see the Windows shares but i get the same thing when I just try and mount using CIFS or SMBFS.

General :: Can Browse Files Via Windows Mount Point But Not Through The Server/share

Aug 20, 2009

Using SUSE 11 with Gnome. I mounted a CIFS share from a Windows server as /mnt/win. With the file browser, I can browse to file system/mnt/win and then the files and folders of the Windows share come up fine and I can open them. When I use the file browser to browse to network, the server hosting this share is listed. Then I browse to that server and it lists no shares (nothing at all). I can't go any further than the server. Is there a separate authentication necessary for the file browser to see this share from the network place?

If you CD into foo there are no errors, you can even read/write files there. On the NFS Server those files can only be seen by umounting /export/home/user/foo.The idea is for 'footo contain files are churned at a very high rate and that this partition will not be replicated offsite
