I am looking for a way to print the timestamp of a directory using find command. I can do that for a file, but for a directory, it is printing the contents of the directory as well. Lets say there is a directory called doc, and there are more than one occurrences of that directory.
find . -name "doc" -type d -exec ls -l {} ;
This is printing the contents of all the files under doc directory as well.

My wife has a canon MP470 printer and running ubuntu 10.10. I am able to print black and white, but unable to print photos. I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?

Im trying to set up a print server using Fedora 12 and CUPS.
It recognized the printer, and i can print from the linux box. When i try to install it on my Win 7 64-bit box i can install the printer itself by giving it the IP address and port number of the linux box but i cant sent anything to it to print. I apologize im a little rough on the details, im not at home right now. I believe the printer i have is a HP PSC 1500. I opened the cups port on the linux firewall, and i shared the printer through the cups admin browser page.

CUPS was not originally installed on my server, I have installed it but cannot print to my network printer. On my laptop, I can... they are both running the same version of Debian. What could be missing?
Here are some details...
I have two computers running the same version of Debian. One is a server with no GUI and the other is my laptop with GDM installed. My laptop (which prints with no problem) is connected via Wifi. My server is connected directly to the router via Ethernet. I cannot print from the server.
The printer is a Canon Pixma MP495 that connects to the router via Wifi. I have downloaded drivers for the printer from [url] and installed them successfully using dpkg on both computers.
Right now I have a regular text file that I am using for a test page. To print from my laptop (with success) I type:
Code:
This does not work from the server. What could I be missing?
lpq run on server:
Code:
lpinfo readout:
Code:

How do I compare the timestamp of two files? I tried this but it doesn't work:
file1time=`stat -c %Y fil1.txt`
file2time=`stat -c %Y file2.txt`
[code]....
I printed both the time stamps, in order and it gives me
1273143480
1254144394
./script.sh: line 13: [1273143480: command not found
So basically if comparision is not working, I guess. Or if there is any other nice way than what I am doing, please let me know.
Edit: There was no space in between if, so changing it to this works:
if [ $file1time -gt $file2time ]

I am using makefile to complile all C Programming files. But certain files are not getting compiled and hence its object file is not getting generated. This is happening due to files haven't been modified for a long time. It seems that compiler knows that its object file is there hence no need to complie it actually it is not.

How can I combine multiple single page prints into a single print job? For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.
I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.

I am trying to find a way to print PDFs from the command line. I was using "cups-pdf', but I want to be able to specify the output folder from the command line. Is there a way to do this? I guess what I am trying to do is the Gnome "Print to file" option in the terminal so I can easily print off a batch of file to whatever directory I wanted.

Is there a way to extract the last field? Specifying the field number is causing problems using awk or cut as the input log file has the output specified in different lines at different places/fields. The only thing constant is the 'pathname' which always occurs at the end.

I am trying to write a program that monitors when an lp or basically any sort of print command is issued. If a print command is detected I want to pause that job and ask the user if he / she wants to continue.
This program would run in the background all the time so it can't sit and eat up a lot of cpu. I tried a simple while loop that continuously monitored "ps" and that obviously boosted my cpu to 100%.

Is this the syntax correct to retrieve a particular user transaction between given time period? because "its return error check the syntax near the between"
