I am running ubuntu 10.4, I downloaded VLC player, but when I try to watch a DVD, it only goes as far as the legal warning screen from the dvd movie. What am I doing wrong? I would like to mention that I am a beginner on computers, so not even the average IT skills.

I have most of my movies in .avi/Divx. when I was using Ubuntu the default movie player would play my vids but when I went full screen the movie would just disappear and would have to shut it down and restart it. Just wondering if I will have the same problems with F14/15.
View 13 Replies View RelatedSince I upgraded to Lucid Lynx, playing videos with the default player do not work properly. I only see the content while moving the window, or in full screen mode, and in both ways, the picture is distorsioned and with strange colors. Playing it with VLC does work properly ONLY IF I change the video output module to something different as default (X11 works, openGL also) but Linux Framebuffer does not.
The question: Is there a way to change the "default" video mode that Totem (or Kaffeine) use?? I have not found anything on the net with this exact problem.
i have reinstalled my mint 7 and whenever i play downloaded/saved videos from ....., i get a choppy/scratchy audio & video in playback. this was not the case before i reinstalled. videos videos played directly and other dvds played from cdrom and mp3s played from hd are however working fine.
View 4 Replies View Relatedtoday in the morning I upgraded several gstreamer related packages (I suspect from the Gstreamer Developers PPA; list and versions see below). Now I just noticed that in the Movie Player (Totem Movie Player 2.30.2 using GStreamer 0.10.32 (prerelease)), when viewing a video in full screen mode, the whole screen is filled with black as expected, but the video itself now remains at its original size in the center of the screen, it is not being resized to the size of the screen. This was not the case two days ago, and I suspect the gstreamer upgrade.
Does anyone have any pointers on this, before I file a bug report? As the Movie Player itself doesn't provide any further options on video scaling (yeah, what a nice GNOME philosophy...), there's not much I can do from within the GUI..

I like movie player since it reminds me of the Windows Media Player, which I loved.However, when i put a song on full screen to go to bed for the night, it crashes after a few songs. Not only does it crash, but I have to do a full roboot. Alt F2 doesnt work, and I can't escape it. I'm more or less stuck in a black screen.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Kubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. It is working well, but Movie Player does not work, and Dragon Player plays videos/movies but with no audio. VLC works fine. how to either remove Movie Player and Dragon Player or make them work. I tried apt-get remove mplayer but that doesn't work. If not that, I wonder if the default media player can be changed to VLC, e.g., when you click any video it will start to play using VLC?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a DVD with a error located at a certain time. Each time I watch the DVD and then come to that point Movie Player (or vlc player) returns a error. Now I want to rip this DVD but all the rippers I tried return a error at that point when they try to rip it. Rippers I tried:
- dvd::rip
- FFMPEG
- Acidripper
- Avidemux
Now I want to know ain't there a ripper which can read over these errors and still make a decent rip?

I got everything working even the webcam but it won't play dvd movies. Have Mint8 set-up in a dual-boot on an Acer Aspire One (with newer N450 Atom processor) with Windows7 Starter.
Most things working fine but can get no sound with Movie player or other apps.
im trying to watch a movie i downloaded....plugged it into my tv via hdmi wire and turned it to the appropriate channel (hdmi2) and i cant seem to get the video to start playing and i just dont know why any ideas? maybe theres a specific application i need to install from the software center that has the capability?
REVISION! it kinda works now...comes up on both my laptop and tv at a different resolution all the icons are big....cant see the top and bottom panel bar too well...and it wont transmit the audio...thats just coming out of my laptop

I must admit I didn't have the guts to check the whole videos...Its kind of torture to watch a full length music video with stuttering sound...
