Ubuntu :: GRUB Not Loading Win7?

Jun 3, 2010

I updated Ubuntu and part of it was an update to grub. When it came up in the installation I told it to keep the old one and left everything as it was. Then when I tried to reboot into Windows it gave an error message. So I went back into Ubuntu and reinstalled grub and now when I select Windows it just loops back to grub.

General :: Grub Loading Stage 1.5 Error 21 Win7 / OpenSUSE

Jul 28, 2011

A few days ago I installed openSUSE 11.4 on a 1TB HP external hard drive. I have some very important files for school and personal work on my main hard drive, running windows 7, so I made sure the installation only affected my external hard drive. With the external hard drive plugged in it boots just fine but when it is un-plugged it says Grub loading stage 1.5. Error 21 and it won't do anything. This kind of pisses me off because there were no warnings and nothing was supposed to happen to my main hard drive. But this has already happened and now I want to know if there is any way I could fix it so I can boot windows 7 normally and still boot openSUSE with the external hard drive plugged in.

Debian :: Grub Load Error "Grub Loading Stage1.5. Grub Loading, Please Wait... Error 15"

May 23, 2010

When I try and boot my Debian computer I get the messages: Grub Loading stage1.5. Grub loading, please wait... Error 15 Is there any way of recovering from this - or is it simply a fresh install? I was attempting an upgrade from Lenny to Squeeze and despite a few hurdles it looked like it was all happening. Got the new kernel loading, and the new grub. It looked as though grub2 was working so I ran the grub-remove-legacy-support command (something like that) and now my computer won't boot grub or Linux.

I'm assuming the MBR on my harddrive is lost, however I don't know what state the partition is in. I'm guessing that maybe this has been lost as well. I tried a few tools from the Ultimate Boot CD but nothing here was able to re-install my grub or boot from any partition or even mount my file-system. I'm fearing the worst but would like it confirmed before I blow it all away with a new install.

Ubuntu Installation :: Boot/grub/win7 - Testdisk/update-grub Method, But It Didn't Work?

Mar 4, 2011

I have 2 hard disks. sda,sdb

In sda, I have 4 partitions, and I have windows 7 in one of the extended partitions [not in the primary partition].

In sdb, I have 3 partitions. 2 for storage, and 1 10GB drive for Ubuntu. Again, Ubuntu is not of a primary partition.

I had ubuntu 10.04 running on that for a long time. However, I wanted to reinstall ubuntu and use 10.10.This is what I did EXACTLY:Booted from Ubuntu install CD

Chose advanced istall

Selected sdb3 for Ubuntu

I installed GRUB2 on the SAME partition as Ubuntu aka sdb3 Installed then rebooted

I can boot into Ubuntu fine, but whenever I select Windows 7 bootloader from the GRUB menu, the screen goes black, and my PC reboots.

Boot Info:

Code:
Boot Info Script 0.55 dated February 15th, 2010 [code]....

ls: reading directory sda6/: Input/output error

I have tried the testdisk/update-grub method, but it didn't work.

I have installed the ubuntu 9.10 and the pc already have 2 win 7 OS and 1 win xp I installed the ubuntu from win xp every thing go just fine but in win 7 boat loader it detects the 2 win 7 OS , previous windows ( the xp )and the ubuntu which fails to load from win7 boot loader ( the first problem ) but it is present also in win xp boat loader so when choosing older windows the win xp bootloader let me choose between windows xp and ubuntu which works fine when choosing it the ubuntu bootloader appears with ubuntuubuntu safe modewin7 bootloader

the second problems that choosing win 7 after restarting the pc from ubuntu fail to open it begin loading with the windows logo and then just shutdown the whole pc as if i have unplugged it! the only way to let it open is to choose older windows>>> ubuntu >>>> ubuntu bootloader >>> where there is win 7 bootloader option it returns me again to win 7 bootloader but this time the windows load complete ( mostly but may shut down also!)

My problem occurs however when I restart my computer after the server installation. Ubuntu :: 10.04.01 And Win7 - No Grub Menu Pops Up

Oct 12, 2010

I finally got it and windows 7 installed on separate hard drives. Windows installed first, then ubuntu 10.04.01. Had to use the alternate ubuntu install cd to make it work. During the install it said there were no other operating systems installed on the computer and asked if grub could overwrite the master boor record. I knew this was something I wanted to do and if it was wrong it could most likely be fixed later. So that being said, ubuntu has taken over the boot of my pc. No grub menu pops up. Not sure how to add windows to grub to make it give me a choice. I did try pressing shift during startup to get grub to load, and nothing happened.

Here is my fdisk.

Ubuntu :: No More Win7 After Deleting Partition - Grub Rescue

I have a major problem with Windows 7's MBR. I deleted Ubuntu's partition last night, and when I restarted, I saw:
Code:

I looked it up, put some code into a LiveCD terminal, and I thought it worked. But now, I says that I definitely need to put in a Windows 7 CD and do that MBR fix method. I did not own a Windows 7 CD; my laptop came with it pre-installed, and I have no recovery partition anymore.

i don't need ubuntu but i do need windows as it has files and papers that i need this week.
