View 1 RepliesI am regularly keeping watch on kernel releases like 2.6.36-rcX and compiling the upcoming kernel releases on Fedora 13.I came across STP [URL] and PLM testing and seems like it is relevant tool for compiling, testing the kernel components in very precise way. I am unable to find the documents which can help in how to implement or run the tool. I have just downloaded the Test-suit tar and dont see any README or steps to test or run the tool.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just want to upgrade my Slackware 13.1 kernel (2.6.33.4) to the latest stable kernel from kernel.org (2.6.38.2). I have never done anything like this and I am a Linux newbie, so I would appreciate a "Kernel Patching for Dummies" version if possible. I did do a search on this forum and most of what I read was over my head. I found an FAQ on kernelnewbies.org on "How To Apply A Patch" but when I attempted what they suggested, it said it couldn't find the file to patch at line 5 and asked me which file to patch. So I CTRL-Z'd out of there and came here. Here's what I tried:

I am looking to find a program similar to nm-applet which can run on NetBSD. So far, I have found wpa_supplicant and wpa_gui. Am I on the right tracks? Basically, I want to scan for wireless networks and connect to them. When I start wpa_gui, I get "Could not find status from wpa_supplicant".

I'm running Karmic on a Dell Mini 10v (Intel Atom) netbook, generally with very few problems and I've been happy with it. Recently I've had problems with suspend and wake when I close / open the lid - wicd no longer finding any networks, password prompt no longer appears, that sort of thing. A few days ago an icon popped up in the panel which appeared to do nothing, but mousing over it provided the following message:
"Session active, not inhibited, screen idle. If you can see this text, your display server is broken and you should notify your distributor. [URL]..Following the link, the blog of Richard Hughes appears to quite carefully describe the issue and then provides a patch (or two). However, being rather a n00b I have no idea what to do with either of the blocks of code he supplies - "man patch" in my terminal brings up "no manual entry for patch".
I have created mobility of 20 nodes and vbr traffic using following attached script I executed the file as ns234 vbr.tcl I got the vbr.tr and vbr.nam but I was unable to load the graph using matlab <trgraph> I thought problem with is vbr.tcl script.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have downloaded and setup the SUSE Lifecycle Management Server on vmware using the Live CD Distribution. I have connected it to Susestudio.com as my repository and setup a user account via the backend on pg 96 using the slms-admin-ui-user -o to create my administrator account since I lost the password for the initial login. I created a customer and have the following:
Mirroring Credentials - User Name: (random character)
Mirroring Credentials - Password: (random character)
Also I have a test box for installing the Live CD of our application. Do all appliance created on suse studio have the client to connect to the SLMS server or do need to install a client? If there is no client how do I obtain and add it to the appliance on susestudio.com ? How do I setup appliance as a client?
I am writing some server programs. I notice that I can only connect to the server with a total of 28232 connections (clients) before I get the errno [99] "Cannot assign requested address" from the client program. I am using the same machine to do both operations. It seems like I am reaching some networking limitation outside of both programs.The server process has a maximum of 6 theads running(well below the thead limit). The client has two threads. When I add another client machine to the testing I can surpass 28232 connections). What limitation am I reaching on the server machine and how can I overcome this limitation. Again when I add a client machine to the testing, I can achieve more than 28232.
System Setup:
SUSE 11.1 64 bits

I'm trying to install a patch but when I copy it into terminal I get message " /home/john/patch-modules_v62-opensuse.sh 'vmware-7.1.3-2.6.37-rc5.patch' not found. copy it to the current '/home/john' directory. Exiting" But I have it in my home directory!

I'm trying to install a SDK iso image onto an embedded linux platform. I was able to mount the image on the platform without problems. I also created a symbolic link called "bash" in the bin directory and had that point to busybox to satisfy the first line of code in the installer: "#!/bin/bash". However, when I run the installer, I get an error: "installer: applet not found"
I get the same error when I type "bash" on the command line. Is there a way to fix this? Here is the first few lines of code that causes the error:

LC_OPTION=${LC_OPTION:="prompt"} # Licensing related variable
INSTALL_PATH=${INSTALL_PATH:=$HOME} # Default installation path

My concept is a model using a text editor with only simple executable scripts being written to perform steps in the process. I need to use a language for doing simple things like tagging words and translating using a dictionary I am building. I am beginning to use AWK in conjunction with Bash and need to find some members with whom I can dialog on particular topics; even getting advice. Are there any AWK users in the community, using the language for processing text?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI need to transfer a 4Gbyte file from my Linux netbook to a friends WinXP desktop. And I'd like to it with a usb flash drive, but it can't handle a file larger than 2Gbyte. A limitation due to the underlying FAT32 filesystem. But I don't wish to reformat my usb as ext3 either.
So I need to split my 4GByte file into smaller chunks. And the 'split' utility needs to be available on both Linux and the WinXP operating systems.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIMO it really is the big thing! The patch being talked about is designed to automatically create task groups per TTY in an effort to improve the desktop interactivity under system strain. Mike Galbraith wrote the patch, which is currently in its third version in recent weeks, after Linus Torvalds inspired this idea. In its third form, this patch only adds 224 lines of code to the kernel's scheduler while stripping away nine lines of code, thus only 233 lines of code are in play. Tests done by Mike show the maximum latency dropping by over ten times and the average latency of the desktop by about 60 times.
