I have a problem in my VPN. I am using pptp. I installed on CENTOS 5.5. Here is my config of LAN:
eth1: ISP ADDPRESS
eth0: Local IP Address
When I try to connect using my Mac OSX to ISP Address of my VPN. I can able to connect but after few seconds I am disconnected.
I am trying to connect to a PPTP VPN at work, and I cannot accomplish that. Both server and client are using Ubuntu 10.10.

GW: 62.2.2.1 (cisco router)
i want to configure my ppptp server to allow users access internet with their own public ips of class 62.2.3.0 62.2.4.0 62.2.5.0
every time i configure my server all users can get thier IPs but they only go out with my server IP same as NAT not routing.
can you show me the proper configuration to make my users connect with public IP and have internet access. use specific DNS ( i did this but some users can not brows by DNS)
is there any way to specify an expired date for each pptp user.
I'm trying to connect to a Microsoft ISA PPTP server from my Linux box. The box I'm connecting from is itself a router. I have no problem connecting a Windows XP machine to the VPN via this machine. This is fine, but I would rather connect via the Linux machine, giving me far more advanced routing options (i.e. no to send every packet from the XP box completely unnecessarily via the PPTP tunnel). The Linux router is running Debian Lenny.
I've checked iptables. There were initially some issues. I've fixed those.
Invoking pppd from the console, I can see that authentication succeeds, but then some negotiation goes wrong and the server terminates the connection. Here's the output from pppd, with the more sensitive stuff removed:

I am happily using SSH's X11-forwarding to run some applications and then the connection was disconnected. Running ps ax from a new SSH connection shows that the applications are still running. How do I "resume" or recover the GUI for the applications to prevent data lost?

i can even browse through Mozilla firefox.
But my Network-Manager applet is always show as disconnected in taskbar. I understood some kind of understanding between network -configuration files and network-manager applet are broken

We can able to configure PPTP Vpn like this.

3. Choose the 'Create a new connection' item from the left-hand side of the window. The Windows XP New Connection Wizard will appear on the screen.
4. First click Next to begin the wizard, then choose the 'Connect to the network at my workplace' item from the list and click Next.
5. On the Network Connection page of the wizard, choose the 'Virtual Private Network connection' option and click Next.
6. Enter a name for the new VPN connection in the 'Company Name' field and click Next. The name chosen need not match the name of an actual business.
7. Choose an option on the 'Public Network' screen and click Next. The default option, 'Automatically dial this initial connection' can be used if the VPN connection will always be initiated when the computer is not already connected to the Internet. But in Centos how we can able to configure PPTP VPN for this we need to install any package. I got all the vpn access credentials from my office to work from home, but i cant able to join in my office network. because of this prob.

i have Fedora 14 OS, i installed an openvpn, & i got a problem with it, which i get disconnected automatically after successfully logined, one of the members here (ZeroSignal ) told me to comment any lines in /etc/openvpn/anyname.conf file, which contain the word update-resolf.conf, & my problem get solved, but now after i logined to the openvpn network & after half an hour (or less sometimes) i got disconnected from the network.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to connect to my corporate VPN using a laptop running Ubuntu 10.04. It's a company laptop but as I have chosen to run Linux rather than "a proper" OS, I'm mostly on-my-own as far as getting these things working. Normally that's OK because I am almost always successful - except this problem has had me stumped for several weeks now.
The problem is that I am unable to access the VPN from my home network. I am using the Gnome Network Manager interface to configure the PPTP connection but no matter what combination of options, domainusername formats, encryption options or authentication methods I select, I get the exact same behaviour, which is essentially a 10-second wait, and then a failure message. I checked /var/log/daemon.log:

the laptop is connecting to the Internet via a WiFi access point (bridge mode), then an ADSL router. PPTP pass-through is enabled on the ADSL router and Access Point. if I connect the laptop to the ADSL with an ethernet cable (to eliminate the WiFi), there is no improvement. another laptop (running Mac OSX) is able to connect to the VPN, via WiFi or cable. another client, Windows7, is able to connect to the VPN via cable. an iPhone is able to connect to the VPN via WiFi. this laptop is able to connect to the VPN from inside the corporate firewall.
So I've got three other devices that are able to connect to the target PPTP VPN, and a laptop that can't, except when I move the laptop inside the target network, it can connect. I've tried methodically selecting various VPN options with no change in result. I've also read several Ubuntu Forum posts suggesting turning off EAP and that doesn't help either. I'm now at a loss how to fix this, and what will happen next is I'll be told by Management "we told you so", drop Linux and switch to a "proper" OS like Windows instead, which I really don't want to do.
my vpn server has been working well. but all user accounts are stored in /etc/ppp/chap-secrets. the question is how to create a pptp username through mysql?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using network-manager-pptp to create a PPTP VPN connection in my Ubuntu virtual machine for a while now, but I have constant problems with random disconnects. I don't know what the cause of the problem is, but I suspect that network-manager-pptp is not the most well-written piece of software around...
Is there another way of instantiating PPTP connections in a more robust manner? The same PPTP server works reasonably OK with Windows 7 (some disconnects, fewer than in Ubuntu, and Windows has an auto-reconnect feature).
I read some guides on using the pptp command, but they all seemed pretty low-level, messing around with ppp. I never found the time to figure out how it all was supposed to fit together. Has anyone accomplished what I'm trying and is willing to share the knowledge?
EDIT: Tried kvpnc, and it seems the stability is more or less the same as network-manager-pptp. The error message is "Modem hangup".
To clarify, I understand that the connection can go down, but I want to be able to reconnect automatically when disconnected.
My Desktop assembled d101GGC motherboard having 3.00 Ht tech processor, locks and after 5-10 minutes, unlocks and shows kernel softlock CPU#0 for 412 seconds. for the last many days. since two days it now lags time in clock applet in panel, but is not hanging for soft lock, I set the date and time to "system clock uses UTC" or "synchronize date and time over network", my PC again started to soft lock.

It isn't a CPU or disk performance issue, it's just simply a very long delay before the program opens. It appears to be a frivolous network connection timing out. According to Wireshark, it tries to look up:
dulcimer.(none)
which fails, after which it tries to look up:
dulcimer.(none).mylitestream.com
(dulcimer is my hostname, and LiteStream is my ISP)

Every time I launch Firefox and go visiting some websites, I notice it freezes for about 10 seconds. Not always in the same websites, but it always happens sometime in the first 2 or 3 minutes of running. I can see the hard disk led is ON all the time the browser is hung.
My operating system is Linux and I don't currently have any extension/plugin installed here.
I have no form completion, no history and have no more than 20-30 bookmarks.
Has somebody noticed something similar, or know how can I debug this to find out what Firefox is doing or trying to do?

At the moment, TV starts up straight away at login, but seeing as the wireless internet isn't connected straight away, TV's trying to connect without a connection, which is a problem when the wireless does connect as it will get stuck with 'Activating TeamViewer'.
Obviously, this is a straight forward task, just exit and then re-open TV. But seeing as I want to run a headless server, carrying my monitor and mouse to the server every time I want to activate TV isn't ideal.
The way I did set up TeamViewer to start up on login, was by dragging the icon into System>Preferences>Start-up Applications, so if the solution is to create a script of some sort.

I am using memory at recommended settings of 8-8-8-1333. It has an XMP profile. Th CPU is a bit overclocked to 3.3 GHz, but my cooling more than allows for it. I ran the computer with all overclocks off and lower memory speed but the issue was still there.
Simple question: what parameters can be used to shutdown a computer running Linux/OSX in 30 seconds? I've always run Windows, where I would go shutdown -s -t 30 but the parameters are different. I've looked it up here but it will only let you shut a computer down at a specific time (like 8:00) rather than in a specific amount of seconds.
