General :: Natty 64 Internal Mic Not Working On Lenovo X120e / Where To Start?

Jul 20, 2011

Alright, I'm new to linux, I've googled for days, but I can't for the life of me get my internal mic working. It doesn't register sound in the sound preferences menu, it is not muted.

I have the x120e with the E-350. New install of Ubuntu 11.04 64-bit.

Where to start?

Ubuntu Installation :: Unable To USB Boot On Lenovo X120e

Apr 16, 2011

I just started testing ubuntu 10.10 today (first time user!) on my desktop via usb drive and I liked it very much so i wanted to try it on my laptop (lenovo x120e, a relatively new model).

When i tried to use the usb drive on my laptop, I am unable to boot ubuntu at all!

I went into the "boot device" menu (pressed F12, for lenovo users) and to specifically boot from the "USB HDD" drive. This caused the screen to go blank and a cursor started blinking on the top left hand side of the screen. A few seconds later, i would return to the "boot device" menu to try again. (my guess is this is what happens if boot fails).

My laptop has win 7 installed on the hard disk, with no other OS installed. The bios is at factory settings.

I googled this topic and there are many threads out there of users encountering the same problem, none specifically for the x120e model. the other solutions are either too technical for me to understand or may not apply. Below is a list of what i've tried or will try later..

List of things tried/to be tried

1) use unetbootin instead of Universal-USB-installer - tried both, was able to boot from desktop but not on laptop

2) assign a variable to kernel (could not find the exact name, but the variable name had the string "intel" prepended - i didn't try this... my laptop is amd (i don't think it should matter... my desktop is also amd)

3) re-image the usb - done it many times

4) corrupted usb? - seemed to boot on desktop with no issues... tried other usb anyway but no luck

5) Try to install 10.04 - just downloaded it, will try tomorrow

6) Try to remove the hard disk

SUSE :: Lenovo G560: Internal Microphone Stopped Working?

Sep 30, 2010

I've got a handy new Lenovo G560 running with OpenSUSE 11.3 64-bit. After a normal out-of-the-box installation the laptop speakers failed to mute when I plugged in headphones and I was only able to regulate the sound for both the speakers and the headphones simultaneously. Then I installed a whole lot of ALSA stuff and my sound devices were recognized as "PulseAudio server (local)". Speakers muted when I plugged in headphones - a big yay.

Now, though, my microphone doesn't work any more. It worked before, I'd talked on Skype with it, but upon trying to make a call with Skype today I noticed that it didn't work any more. Sound's turned up in KMix, so everything should be okay - does anybody know how to get my microphone working again?

Debian Hardware :: Lenovo B40-70 Internal Microphone Is Not Audible

Feb 10, 2016

Recently purchased a Lenovo B40-70 Dec 15 Make and isntalled Debian Jessie as the only operating system. Everything seems to work fine except internal microphone.

I have entries under ports of pavucontrol
- Internal Microphone
- Microphone (unplugged)

I changed amplification levels of left and right channels (as some suggested having right and left at same level cancel each other thus producing no audio). I've added entries such as Code: Select alloptions snd-hda-intel model=laptop to non existing alsa-base.conf in /etc/modprobe.d/. - No effect

Haven't seen Lenovo internal microphone problems offlate in forums or QA Boards, so asking it here again.

Also, I'm planning to buy a USB microphone : [URL].....

Will this work out of the box to make skype calls ?

Fedora Hardware :: Get Internal Modem Lenovo T61 FC14 X86_64

Apr 16, 2011

I am keen to get the internal modem working on my notebook, so I can set up faxing and dial-up internet access.

I have failed to get it working by using the Linuxant alsa-driver-linuxant and hsfmodem packages, but that may be because I am doing something wrong.

alsamixer on my system tells me I have CARD: HDA Intel and CHIP: Analog Devices AD1984.

I have these devices in /dev, which appear to be candidates for modem operation:

General :: Intermittent Internet With Ubuntu Natty - Connections To Particular Websites Will Start Timing Out

Aug 28, 2011

I'm having a bit of Internet trouble with a fresh install of Ubuntu Natty and I haven't been able to track down the problem. I have my desktop running over a wireless network, which connects without fail. Somewhat frequently, however, connections to particular websites will start timing out (google, facebook, stackoverflow, us ubuntu archive, etc.). I'm also having a strange issue where my home page [URL] is redirecting to [URL].

Initially I thought it might be an issue with Comcast DNS, so I updated the router to use OpenDns servers. When that didn't work I started to try accessing some of the problematic sites through my laptop (which is using the same router) and they all connect without problem. The issue seems to be with my Ubuntu install, but I'm not sure where to look.

EDIT After doing some further digging, this is starting to look like a DNS issue. My home page appears the resolve to an incorrect ip address when the redirect issue occurs. Still not sure how to track down the problem, however.

Debian Hardware :: Xbacklight Not Working - Lenovo S10

Mar 17, 2016

I'm trying to change the backlight via xbacklight but this is not working. Although

Code: Select allxbacklight -set X

causes

Code: Select allxbacklight -get

to return X, the real monitor backlight is unchanged.

The XF86MonBrightnessDown (fn+some-key) isn't working either, although it may have been working earlier.

How can I further debug this issue?

Why are the extensions ["", "txt", "text"] "not allowed" for upload?

I tried stracing the xbacklight call, I'm including the output, but I can't make anything out of it.

Is there a way to do this via xrandr or is there a lower-level way?

Debian Hardware :: Lenovo X140e Laptop - Getting Broadcom BCM43228 Working On Jessie

Feb 1, 2015

It's for a Lenovo x140e laptop with Jessie. Specs online commonly describe the laptop as having BCM43142 but I ran "lspci -knn | grep -iA2 net" and the output says I have BCM43228. Not sure why there is that discrepancy but I am assuming the latter, BCM43228, is what is actually in my computer.

Anyway, I originally installed "broadcom-sta-common", "module-assistant", and "broadcom-sta-source", but that resulted in nothing happening so I think I am going to "apt-get purge" those and start over.

I know about the Debian wiki "wl" page but it only provides instructions up to Wheezy, not Jessie. And I read many previous threads but they often contain different instructions and mixed results, plus there are many moving parts here (kernel, OS, driver, packages) and the instructions seem to be changing over time.

I was thinking I'd install these:

1) firmware-realtek
2) wireless-tools
3) module-assistant
4) broadcom-sta-common
5) broadcom-sta-dkms
6) broadcom-sta-source

Does the order of install for those above packages matter at all? Do I need the kernel header or not and, if so, how do I use it? Are there any other packages I need? What is the process?

Output of "lspci -knn | grep -iA2 net"
Code: Select all01:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM43228 802.11a/b/g/n [14e4:4359] Subsystem: Broadcom Corporation Device [14e4:0607] 03:00.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. Ubuntu Installation :: 10.10 Natty Narwhal Will Not Load Up Start Screen

Jul 29, 2011

My recently installed OS, keeps on displaying a GRUB menu instead of the normal screen and has an option of normal start up or ( I forgot what it's called but some sort of .. ) Fixing Option. It has worked before but yesterday the error wouldn't stop coming up after it randomly crashed while the computer was working. I haven't tried it again today, but will do soon. The first option of normal boot up said something like 0x01002 is in use and didn't load.

The second one occasionly came up with an option for normal boot after it had 'Fixed' it. But most times it would come up with some terminal like dialogue, then stop and not load, don't know if it crashed or what ? Hope this is enough information for you, but as I'm only 12, I don't have a clue what to do, except the obvious option of rebooting again and again.
