General :: Parsing Through A Nagios Config File To Extract Info W/ Sed - Awk - Vi

It contains entries like this:

There are many more of these entries in the file, over 500, all in this same format: each host has a "define host" followed by 18 directives contained in squiggly brackets.
If I want to know all the hosts that are in the hostgroup called SERVER_GRP, I suppose I would need to read every hostgroups line (8th directive in squiggly brackets) that contains SERVER_GRP and output the corresponding host_name line (1st directive in squiggly brackets) from that entry.
Ubuntu :: Retrieving Gmail Password From Evolution?
Sep 2, 2010I have several Gmail accounts. On one of my Ubuntu-running computers (Hardy) Evolution remembers the passwords. Which is a good thing, as I can't remember one of the passwords.
When I'm out and about with my netbook, I like to check my email. But I don't use Evolution on the netbook; I access the Gmail accounts via the web. And because I can't remember the password for one account, I can't check it.
Obviously, on my Hardy desktop, Evolution/Ubuntu remembers the password - so it must be stored on the computer, right? How do I get Ubuntu to tell me the password?

Debian :: Nagios Web Interface Stopped Working After Squeeze Upgrade
Mar 5, 2011I recently updated to squeeze following the Debian release note steps, and most everything went smoothly. However, I'm now unable to get into the Nagios web interface. The service is still running and sends email notifications of issues as usual, but logging into the web interface gives me a 403 Forbidden error.

Apr 9, 2011I have recently installed Fedora 14 on a new computer we presented as a gift to my sister-in-law. She is new to Linux. Although I've used Fedora since Core 1, I'm no expert on security issues, and this baffles me. She's doesn't know how to change the root password, so why doesn't it work any more? She discovered the problem when attempting a yum update from a terminal.(1) How could the root password have gotten changed? How likely is it that someone got onto her system through ssh, made a lucky guess on her root password, and then changed it? Are there robots that do this?
(2) The firewall is enabled. I have it set up as follows: (a) under "Trusted Services," only ssh is checked (I need to be able to get in remotely this way); (b) under "Trusted Interfaces," I have eth0 checked (I need to be able to use VNConto her desktop).Question: Are these settings giving ample protection? What settings would be recommended to protect her system while at the same time allowing me to access it through ssh and VNC?

May 6, 2011I use Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal and my wife who is not an Ubuntu convert still uses Microsoft Windows. Recently her ageing PC stopped functioning and she bought a more powerful PC with Windows 7 as the OS. Unfortunately, most of her specialised work software refuses to run on Windows 7, but she still wants / requires access to retrieve information from the old drive which was running (past tense) Windows XP Professional up until recently. Because of her fear of breaking the warranty on her new shiny PC, she won't let me remove the casing and fit the old drive. So, the question is, if I fit her old drive into my Ubuntu machine would it harm either my PC or her hdd? Also, these new SATA drives have no jumper settings (slave/master etc). How do I set it up and how do I get the information from this hdd?

Dec 21, 2010i am having a problem with the installation with ubuntu 10.10 during the installation, i was entering my setup info (login password, timezone, etc.) when everything stopped working, it wouldnt let me continue, the forward button wouldnt work. i let it set for a good 30 minutes but it wouldnt do anything.
so unable to continue, i restarted and tried to boot from my cd drive and now it wont boot from the drive, and since i let ubuntu delete my windows partition, i cant boot from it so i basically have a blank hard drive. the cd drive will boot other cds because i booted hirens boot cd in an attempt to make sure the cd drive was functioning and ran diagnostics to make sure the drive was alright.

Oct 26, 2009basically the situation I'm in is someone mistakenly expanded an NAS without unmounting the drive on the server. This corrupted the superblock and its apparent that all the backups are no good. The drive in question was expanded from about 800gigs to 1.8TBs, its done via an NAS.
At this point I'm most concerned about getting the files off the drive, I can deal with resetting the file system but I really need those files. This happened within a week of me joining this group so I'm kind of doing damage control here, backups were not taken of this particular drive.
General :: Retrieving Files From Damaged LVM Disk On CentOS 5.5?
Nov 3, 2010I'm running CentOS 5.5.
A couple of weeks ago, my 500 GB disk crashed after suffering an accelerating error rate for a couple of days.
Now that I have a new disk in place, I want to mount my old disk, which is (was) an LVM disk, as a second disk and recover files from it if possible.
The question is, how do I go about this?
If I mount the old disk:
# mount /dev/sdb1 /sdb1
the top-level directory shows only two subdirectories:
lost+found, which is empty; restored, which is an image of files recovered from old disk's predecessor.
'df' shows (or appears to show) that the disk is 11% full. Sorry, I don't recall how full the disk was before it crashed.
How do I get the system to recognize the LVM structure on the old disk & mount it?
Or is the directory structure too corrupted? Do I need to send the disk out to a recovery service?
P.S. Have aleady done some poking around with lvmdiskscan, which shows the old disk whether it's mounted or not, and vgchange -ay, which doesn't appear to do anything.

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support. Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information. So then after some googling I got the suggestion to downgrade udev-151 to udev-141, but that yeilded no results. So I did some more googling and a bunch of people who had the same problem said that downgrading module-init-tools worked, so I downgraded from module-init-tools 3.11 something to 3.6 and now, not only does my X no longer work, but no modules are being loaded I believe, for example I saw in my startup that fuse was not being loaded, ndiswrapper which I had installed was not loaded.

However, I would like to upgrade to 11.2. Is there an upgrade CD, or should I just download the 11.2 DVD (at nearly 5GB) and choose the "upgrade" option from it?

Dec 8, 2010I'm totally new to this linux thing and I have a very strange problem. I downloaded the .iso and burned it to CD as per instructions. I had intended to install alongside existing WinXP Pro Sp3. Everything seemed to be going fine until it the installer got to the "User Info" Screen where it asks for my name, the computer's name, password, etc. At that point nothing I did would allow the "forward" button to work. I backed up a step or two and went forward again to no avail. I ended up hitting the hard reset button to get out of it. I never saw any error messages even though I scrolled through the install log at the bottom of the install window. Now my HDD is 60 Gb smaller (The part intended for Ubuntu) under Win XP and I have no idea what to do about it.

Intel Core2 Duo 8400 3.0 Ghz
2 Gb ram at 800Mhz
Nvidia 9800GT GPU 512Mb
Win XP seems to be working normally except for the loss of HDD space.

May 15, 2010I have a 9.10 installation that I am unable to connect with SAMBA.
Attempts to access this (from Windows XP) give an error "the password or username is invalid".
I can see the computer, but not connect.
The Ubuntu installation is set up with the same user and password I normally use, and the files are setup the same way. I even copied smb.conf from another installation which works.
I set up SMB when prompted by shares-admin.

I can see the interface of change password screen and when i tried to change the password using web, it displayed "user not found or invalid.Please go back and try again." But actually there is a user with that password. My password is stored at /etc/squid/squid_passwd.I have changed the permissions to 777 .But all in vain.
