General :: Retrieving Previous Command For All Users?

Allow me to submit that i did a mistake of not saving the work which i done in the past few months. i have used history command to see the previous commands. But trouble is that since i had worked a lot on gnome-terminal, only last 1000 commands are shown. Is it possible to see list of all the previous commands for all users. Also, sorry if this sounds absurd, but is it possible to save the details of a session onto a single file ? I not sure but when i had worked on vector Linux, i had used some command to save sessions at the terminal. Is there any analogous command in Ubuntu 10.04 also ?

I'm doing a project demonstrating weaknesses in facebook's security setup, and I've reached a bit of a roadblock.I need to retrieve the public RSA key of the website (facebook) that it uses for https traffic. I know I can do this through firefox and everything, but I need to do it through the command line. If that's possible, that would be great, and would lead me to question number two. Once I have the public key, how would I use it to decrypt raw network traffic, like from wireshark, that came from facebooks servers that was encrypted using the public key?

Im not getting able to neither add new users using command useradd nor delete existing users using command userdel. And even Im not getting able to login into any existing users except root. It was ok before. Im having this problem very recently on my linux server. Im using RHEL5.

i'm trying to redirect the output of a command to the input of the next command. not sure if i'm going about this the right way. an easy method would be just to store the output of the previous command in a file and redirect input to read that file, but i'm curious to see if this can be done without writing to any files.

For example, when using bash you can use

!<number> to execute the Nth command(use history to see the list). Or you can use

cd !-2:1
to cd into the value in the first field that was executed 2 commands ago Anyhow, say I run a command and the output is a path. Any way to cd and then some variable where OUTPUT of the previous command was stored? A variable that always stores the OUTPUT of the last command.

i want to disable the su command on a server so that users cant run the su command i removed the comment from the 3 and 5 line in /etc/pam.d/su file but it doesnt seem to work the file is shown below

I am using ubuntu 9.04. I created new users, & users logged in with their name & password. Everything is working fine. But when they open gui terminal or when they login using CLI(using ctrl+alt+f1), they will get only "$" symbol, instead of full path like pwd, hostname, etc. And if I do ls, it is listing the content, but command completion is not happening, i.e $cd Des(pressing tab). These all things can be fixed only after pressing "bash". So I don't always want to press "bash". So is there any way that I can fix this issue.

I have install RHEL5 and created normal user as "test". When I login as root user, I can run crontab command but when I login as test user, I can't run crontab command and throws error as "cron/test: Permission denied". how to enable crontab command for test user as well?

I need to figure out a bash command to list all users logged in at or after 5pm - 5pm being the specifier in the command.

Command seems to be the easiest way to display users but it specifies all users log times.
I've also fiddled with the lastlog command to no avail.

I use Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal and my wife who is not an Ubuntu convert still uses Microsoft Windows. Recently her ageing PC stopped functioning and she bought a more powerful PC with Windows 7 as the OS. Unfortunately, most of her specialised work software refuses to run on Windows 7, but she still wants / requires access to retrieve information from the old drive which was running (past tense) Windows XP Professional up until recently. Because of her fear of breaking the warranty on her new shiny PC, she won't let me remove the casing and fit the old drive. So, the question is, if I fit her old drive into my Ubuntu machine would it harm either my PC or her hdd? Also, these new SATA drives have no jumper settings (slave/master etc). How do I set it up and how do I get the information from this hdd?

I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed but when booting up the partitions are not visible on the boot loader. I have tried grub-install and update-grub off a live CD but to no avail, fdisk show the partitions still exist.

basically the situation I'm in is someone mistakenly expanded an NAS without unmounting the drive on the server. This corrupted the superblock and its apparent that all the backups are no good. The drive in question was expanded from about 800gigs to 1.8TBs, its done via an NAS.
At this point I'm most concerned about getting the files off the drive, I can deal with resetting the file system but I really need those files. This happened within a week of me joining this group so I'm kind of doing damage control here, backups were not taken of this particular drive.

I'm running CentOS 5.5.
A couple of weeks ago, my 500 GB disk crashed after suffering an accelerating error rate for a couple of days.
Now that I have a new disk in place, I want to mount my old disk, which is (was) an LVM disk, as a second disk and recover files from it if possible.
The question is, how do I go about this?
If I mount the old disk:
# mount /dev/sdb1 /sdb1
the top-level directory shows only two subdirectories:
lost+found, which is empty; restored, which is an image of files recovered from old disk's predecessor.
'df' shows (or appears to show) that the disk is 11% full. Sorry, I don't recall how full the disk was before it crashed.
How do I get the system to recognize the LVM structure on the old disk & mount it?
Or is the directory structure too corrupted? Do I need to send the disk out to a recovery service?
P.S. Have aleady done some poking around with lvmdiskscan, which shows the old disk whether it's mounted or not, and vgchange -ay, which doesn't appear to do anything.

i have a NIS master server and 4 NIS clients. out of 4 nis clients two are acting as login servers ie users will login and do all their stuffs and the remaining two are application servers. But sometimes users login into applications servers and started doing all their developer's job. i want to allow only a limited number of users tointo this application users not all the users who are all part of the nis domain.all the systems are running RHEL 5.4 on hp's proliant x86_64 based servers. Please advice me how should i proceed? enabling ip tables is not possible in my environment.

When I have different people log into our ftp and browse to the same folder, some people see the files inside, some don't. all the user accounts are in the same group, which has permission to this folder. but the one user who can see the files is the owner. how can i fix it so everyone in that group who's the owner of the folder can see the files?

I am trying to find a method or tool to know the exact command history of all my users.I have tried to use "psacct" ,but it is not solving my perpous as it is only giving the command name.means let say 10 users have used "rm" command to remove 10 differint files then I want to know which user has removed what file.
But psacct will only give me the command name like rm used bu the user name.Then I tried to use the "w: command but it is also not solving the problem..
