Fedora Networking :: Connection Eth0 Never Active On Boot
Jul 16, 2011I am trying to sort out some issues following an upgrade from F12.
I have eth0 as the connection I want to use. Prior to the upgrade, this connection was enabled and active at boot.
Now, for some reason after the upgrade it has to be manually enabled at every boot - even though when I go the Network tool, Ethernet Device > General tab - "Activate device when computer starts" is checked.
At every boot time it is inactive.
In all the ifcft-eth0 files, the ONBOOT parameter is set to "yes".

Jul 16, 2010i was using ubuntu 9.10 till recently when i decided to upgrade to ubuntu lucid 10.04. turns out the internet icon shows connected after fresh installation but when i try to use firefox , after an long wait it shows server not found. i did a research of my own and found that i am not able to ping even my router.using sudo dhclient eth0 doesn't recieve offers , but surprisingly when i tried dhclient eth0 in root shell with networking internet got configured very quickly and i can ping the router and any website.i forgot to mention i have a wired connection which i am trying to connect and the net is working fine with windows 7 on the same PC.

Jul 2, 2010My machine has Ubuntu 10.4, installed a week ago. I'm connecting to the Internet with a Wireless 3G modem, the interface is named ppp0. Additionally, I have a network card that is connected to a home router, that's eth0. Everything works fine with eth0 disabled, all my apps can access the internet correctly. But, my issue is that when i enable eth0, i can't access the internet with any app.
So why do i need eth0 anyway? The thing is that i must share my internet connection with my sister, who is also connected to our home router. I planned to give her access by installing squid on this machine and configuring her browser to connect to squid. However, since none of my apps can connect to the internet while eth0 is active (whereas squid and all other apps work fine with eth0 disabled) I can't let her connect to squid while squid is working correctly.BTW selecting "use this connection only for resources on its network" under "routes..." of the ipv4 tab of "Auto Ethernet" made it a little better. Firefox and Xchat started to work with eth0 active. Squid still doesn't work though (althought it works just fine with eth0 disabled)

Mar 13, 2011I am running the latest ubuntu and I am having trouble getting networking sorted. I have 2 networks, one wired (eth0) and one wireless (wlan0). I connect to the internet using wireless. The problem is that I can only successfully connect to the internet if I disconnect from eth0. I have hit this problem with Windows machines and the solution was to adjust the "interface metric" in "Advanced TCP/IP Settings" so that the wireless was the preferred connection. How can I achieve something similar in Ubuntu?

My wired connection is fine right now and when I check the network connection applet, it display active information of eth0. However, when I click the Configure button, the Network Connection window appears but there's nothing in the Wired panel. Should there be a eth0 in that panel? I remember I had one before, but after I messed with some configuration of VPN, my network became unstable and I remove the Network Manager to try to solve the problem. Since then, there's nothing in my Network Connection window, though I can still connect to my router with eth0. Now even after I reinstalled the Network Manager, I still don't get anything.

Ubuntu :: Make Active Window Appear Below Panel
Jun 26, 2011So I was thinking of having my bottom panel just for harbouring active windows. I thought also to uncheck expand so it will grow larger when more windows are active. All of which is not a problem. But there's one thing stopping me from doing this.
Currently the active window stops when it reaches either panel.
[forgot to edit the green bar out. Ops. Ignore it.] So in either bottom corner nothing is displayed. How can I get the active window to go all the way to the bottom of the screen. Whilst the panel still appears above the active window? [Probably won't have transparent panel when doing this.]

Networking :: Eth0 Fixed IP - Eth1 DHCP Gateway - Access To Eth0?
Aug 19, 20095.10 Breezy configured as machine controller. Works great eth0 is a fixed IP to communicate with controller comms board. Not easy at all to alter - the comms board is hard coded to listen on eth0 for commands.
I can use eth1 as the default gateway and ping google.com, etc. But when I now attempt to communicate with the controller with netcat, e.g.

I obviously never get an answer since the request is passed via eth1. Using the -g option with netcat doesn't work either. I had a look at iptables but it doesn't seem to be able to do what I want. How I can still use eth0 as my communication port to the controller whilst eth1 is the default gateway?

Jul 1, 2010I have two servers on a vlan at my datacentre/colocation and previously both servers had public IPs on their eth0 interfaces. The servers are HP ProLiant DL360s - one is a G4 and one is a G5 The newer G5 is now the LAMP server and the G4 has been retired and I want to repurpose it as an iSCSI target using openfiler freenas or similar.
My G5 has public/static IPs lashed to the eth0 physical interface and the eth1 is not configured to do anything yet. The G4 will have both interfaces available - perhaps one for ssh access from one of my static public IPs and the other to be a private IP on the local vlan. Here is what I am trying to get my head around...
The G5
eth0 - Public IP - full LAMP services on two or three virtual interfaces
eth1 - Private IP 192.168.0.1
The G4
eth0 - Public IP for ssh
eth1 - Private IP 192.168.0.2
Because my traffic between eth1 on these boxes is via private IPs on the local private vlan it doesn't add to my quota for bandwidth. How do I go about configuring the routing and gateways and other aspects of this so that I can run a private IP space network between the eth1s and still serve the outside world from the eth0s...
I am afraid that if I assign the private IPs to the eth1 interfaces the routing may either not work or interfere with the access to the production internet facing interfaces (eth0s).

Jul 13, 2009On my machine (Desktop PC) I have 2 network card : wireless (rt61 802.11) and a wired card (BCM44). When I install debian 5.
The wired card is detected and logical name eth0 is assigned, while wireless is not assigned I install firmeware* software to configure the card. It is done in some way ( I used mnetwork from mepis, it works fine).
Now the problem: eth0 disapears, and no eth0 inteface found? ifconfig gives just wlan0.
Question: Why there is no eth0, it was before configuration of wlan0 ?
How to active again eth0, or ho to create the logical eth0?

Dec 18, 2010I'm running a dual boot Ubuntu 10.04/Backtrack 4 (Ubuntu 8.10) system. I can get internet in the BT4 side but not in the Lucid side. In Lucid I can ping my router, and the network manager says I'm good to go, but I can't get to any web sites. It all started when I tried to put my laptop on another network by mimicking the settings of a computer I had just unplugged from the network. MAC address and all.

Question... I want to implement an Active Directory like authentication in a Linux-only environment. My office has approximately 15-25 local desktop PCs all running Ubuntu 10+ and one Ftp & SVN server running Ubuntu 10+.
Each developer has his/her own personal local account on his PC, and the shared PCs have different, local accounts for those developers. The FTP server has ONE (!!) account that everybody uses to access it, as does SVN.
The big picture is that I would like to install & configure a VPN server for remote developers. Before doing that, I'd like to find a way to unify the users across the network so that there exists only one UserX in the network.

It is actually the same colour.Changing the themes didn't help much and only using high contrast theme makes a difference which is the theme I would rather not use.Have been experimenting with ~/.gtkrc-2.0 script but that does not seem to work at all even after restarting X-Server.

Sep 22, 2010I have an old Apache version (1.3.11) and an old Redhat release (2.1.12-20 - Cartman)and need to authenticate a Windows 2003 domain. The authentication to an NT domain already works as expected (see below) but unfortunately I am unable to find the correct LDAP module for V1.3.11 to allow authentication.
From what I have read the LDAP module needs to be compiled with Apache but I am really not sure. Unfortunately I am unable to upgrade to Apache2 when I could presumibly use the authnz_ldap_module but if someone could point me to the correct LDAP module for 1.3.11 it .
Ive installed openldap-1.2.9-6 and openldap-devel-1.2.9-6 but don't particulary want to go down configuring LDAP when hopefully I can simply add the LDAP module to Apache which was not compiled in Apache initially.
Also, do I need to specifiy the AD domain password in the directives or can the Windows lads just create any account I can use.
