Mar 16, 2010I am trying to setup a sendmail server on my dedicated server. It was pre-configured to use exim from cpanel. Is it possible to use exim for all emails from a a certain domain i setup on the server and sendmail for others?
ex.
domain1.com -> exim
domain2.com -> sendmail
If it is possible can someone let me know how i would go about doing this? If it is not how would i disable exim and use sendmail for all mail?
Server :: Unable To Setup A NIS Server Setup On CentOS System
Jan 19, 2010We are trying to set up a NIS server on a CentOS system. We need to have a NIS server which can provide NIS authentication to a couple of clients. We are practically new to all this stuff.
Just googled to find some ideas about installing ypserv and ypbind and portmapper. We did all that and also started them successfully. But now the clients are not able to join to the NIS domain . The error log states "YP_DOMAIN NOT BOUND".
I guess we have not entered the /etc/yp.conf, /etc/hosts files properly. Please let us know the detailed steps to setup a NIS server .
Also, please let us know what entries should go into the different /etc/<file_names>? What is meant by HOSTNAME in the /etc/hosts file?
Is there any other files which need to be changed? Are we missing any steps?
Also to add-on, while executing the ypinit command we faced the following error:

Oct 8, 2010I'll try to describe my question as clear as possible.
- I have purchased a domain name : *****.md
- In the panel of registrar I have only the following options to complete :
Primary NS Hostname
Primary NS Netaddress
Secondary NS Hostname
Secondary NS Netaddress
- At home I have :
a)a WiFi router that is getting an external IP from my ISP provider (internal address of router is 192.168.1.111); External IP from ISP is STATIC.
b)a computer which I use as server (ubuntu 10) with internal IP 192.168.1.100 (I get it by DHCP from Router but it can be set as static of course);
- On server are installed :
a) Apache + Mysql + PHP
b) Ftp serv
c) Webmin
d) SSH serv
e) Bind9 DNS serv
- On my WiFi router there is an option "Forwarding -> Virtual servers" where I setup the ports 53 + 80 to forward to my server and I can access from external my site by IP.
All I want is to have my site *****.md to run on my server and to be visible to external world.
I have searched Google for last 2-3 days for a solution but everything I try doesn't help.
I'm new in Linux ( 1 week probably). Everything except DNS server Bind I was able to setup and are working well.

I tried ftpsync mirroring but that was not getting properly working due to insufficient I want this mirror to be accessible in my FAI setup so that I can start the installation on multiple machines and start the updates and package installation to be done from the same local mirror.

The software downloading process to the equipment requires that my Ubuntu laptop should act as a SFTP server where the software bundle for the equipment is stored. The equipment act as a SFTP client and requests the software from the server. The equipment have SFTP client hardwired in its memory. The same process i did with windows and i used Putty and FreeFtpD and it worked. Now i want to move to Ubuntu as i want to show that it is better. 1)I am using a ubuntu live usb drive with persistancy. How do i set username and password for the client, that is how to create the account in OpenSSH server?
2)I need to keep the software for the equipment in a folder inside server, so that it can be transferred to client upon request. In windows I give the path of the folder to FreeFtpD server. How to do the same in OpenSSH server?
Setting up servers and clients in linux is completely new for me.If this is done (as i know it can be but dont know how) then i can completely move from windows to Ubuntu environment.

Oct 16, 2009I have set up servers between two computers hooked up to the same router. But something has bothered me for years, i would think there is a simple(relatively speaking) way this works.
I can't seem to understand is how to setup a server in Iowa, and have someone in Colorado access it.
All IP addresses Ive seen are 192.168.x.x., which obviously can't hold too many, so accessing a server in Iowa isn't going to work by just knowing the IPaddress the computer will tell you.
Ive run into DNS, netmask, gateways, and I can understand at least somewhat how they work, but it hasn't helped me to make a connection from thousands of miles away.
From what I can understand, I would need to find out multiple addresses(IP?), between each step the transaction would have to travel. Is this close to how it works? and how do I find out the info/addresses I need to find a server miles away?

He has asked me to send him a weekly report of this work. I am sys admin guy who understands ssh,telnet,ftp,tftp,TCP I am not able to understand what should I write in report.Because all the servers are perfectly running and applications are also running on top of them and I am done with this.So basically from my part I do not have any ssh or ftp to write in a report like this.Can some one give me a link if there is some sample report that I should send.I am not able to understand what do I need to Google for the same.

May 13, 2010I've just finished installed a mail server with Fedora 12 + postfix + courier. I also have Squirrelmail and ISPConfig3 installed. The mail server is behind a router. I have [URL] pointed to the static IP at my router. My ISP has opened port 25 & 110 for me and my router has these 2 ports forwarded to my mail server (192.168.0.100).Workstations in local network can connect to my mail server and send emails with no problem but cannot receive emails from outside. I tried an email dossier and it saids connection timed out on smtp session. Do I need to include my static IP somewhere in the configuration so that it communicates to the world properly?

SSH asked password for user git. Why ssh should allow me to login as user git? The git user doesn't have a password. The ssh key I created is for the user expert. How this should work?

Mar 19, 2011I've just purchased a HP ProLiant Microserver for home use. I want to set up with web server, samba shares, the usual stuff. My question is really about system setup. It has an internal USB socket so I've attempted to install a copy of Fedora 14 onto it. I turned off X/Gnome, but it still ran fine. I've now put the OS on one of the internal disks (250Gb, 7200rpm), but I was wondering if there was a way to utilise the internal USB to give me better power-saving allowing the hard drives to be shut down when not in use. How would you set this server up? I'd rather not go to the extra cost of an SSD right now, but if that's the best way then so be it.

389-ds installation completed successfully without any error but when I want to setup it, I didn't find any fedora directory in /opt or any where also tried to find setup-ds-admin-pl script but it is also not available anywhere on server.

I can either install the OS on a compact flash card and use hard disks as storage, or just install everything on the hard disk. I'd also like to set up a software raid for mirroring. I've never done this before, and most recently updated documentation i've found is for ubuntu. Any advice or good links someone can point me to on how to set up raid? I'd like to encrypt my hard disks but I don't know what my options are. It seems like people point to truecrypt, but i'm wondering what else is out there or if people have any advice on this. Would it be feasible to do this if I install the OS on a compact flash card and?
