Dec 7, 2010

Let me *try* and explain what I'm trying to do, and keep in mind aside from a little command line stuff I'm a beginner to any of what I'm asking about.

I have a directory structure something like this:

Code:

/usr/local/chatlogs/
webserver1/
1.chatlog
2.chatlog

[Code]....

So that whatever was captured in the () in the first part of the statement would be used in the 1 in the back part of the statement for every n.chatlog that might be in any of the /webserver directories at that time.

Ubuntu Servers :: PHP/Apache2 Restricted In File Manipulation?

Aug 18, 2010

I have a LAMP server set up (under Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit), and have a PHP application running on the Apache2 server. I copied the "default" website setup, and created a new one with the root at "/home/kota/WebRoot/".

When running my PHP application though, I come across a major issue: The script doesn't seem to be able to modify any files that are currently on the system, or create new ones.

However, this limitation is restricted to when running through Apache2. In other words, if i run it by typing "php5 myapplication.php" from the terminal, it works without a flaw. This leads me to believe that there is a permissions issue, disallowing Apache2 to create and modify files anywhere on my system.

Although it shouldn't make much of a difference, here is the basic information that I feel I should provide:

Programming :: Bash - Reading Csv Delimited File To Array And For Further Manipulation?

Jan 6, 2010

I am trying to do this:

1. Read csv delimited file line1 and store all values in array

2. Use the values stored in the array and replace values in other text file with them

3. read line2 in the cvs file and repeat the process

4. Do above for all lines in the cvs file

for example:

file1.cvs content:

text1,text2,text3,"text 4"
a1,a2,3,"a 4"

file.txt content:

some text $array1$ some text
some text $array2$ some text

1. read line 1 - text1,text2,text3,"text 4" put each value in array X[] lines that contain spaces in cvs will have double quotes

2. read x[1] and replace value $array1$ (in file.txt) with x[1]read x[2] and replace value $array2$ (in file.txt) with x[2] and so on

Can above be accomplished in BASH and how?

Fedora :: Text File Manipulation With Standard Commands In BASH - Remove The Stock Code

Oct 10, 2009

I need to do some text file manipulation which I think should be done with standard commands in BASH. I'm looking at comma seperated text files (stock market data). It comes in the form of date, stock code, open, high, low, close, volume. What I need to do first is move all data with same stock code sequentially into individual files.

While doing this since the stock code will now be the file name I need to remove the stock code. Next I need to filter out overlapping data from different files with the same date. ie. where two files contain the same date on the one line only one line will be added to the combined file. I think there must be a tutorial out there for basic text manipulation like this, I just haven't found it yet.

General :: Mplayer - How To Hook To The File Tool And Firefox

Mar 23, 2011

Two tries at building mplayer. First time failed with no sound, second time worked fine - NO CHANGES that I know of, BUT OK - it works nicely. So if I click on a file in the Linux (fedora 14) file browser, I see using "Mplayer Media Player" as a second option, It does nothing, nor does it do anything from the Application tool menu. I do not know where the "I am doing nothing (and here is why)" error message is logged.

I can manually run mplayer or xmplayer on the .wmv file and it works. How do I edit the menus (control files?) and have them use the newly installed and working mplayer (or xmplayer??).Next, it would be nice to make mplayer the default tool to play videos in Firefox (the default for both is another tool (Movie player) which needs a plugin that I cannot find to work). And finally, if I can get one or both of these working - it would be nice to set the default to the new player instead of "Movie player".

General :: Column Manipulation In Bash Script

Mar 19, 2010

I have a text file and I need to replace the 3rd column of that file from row 3 to the end of the file with a column which I have stored in the different text file. For e.g the original file is like given below:

a.txt nobla 6 gadf 72.500 1.600 1.800 .850 5.250 8.540
A# rad ang ht prf bk sd dia type blade
1 0.3081 9.00 1.9235 -17.50 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1613 1
2 0.6509 194.00 2.0316 -17.50 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1613 4
3 1.0128 8.00 2.1457 -17.50 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1616 1
4 1.3748 192.00 2.2598 -17.50 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1616 4
5 1.6986 7.00 2.3619 -17.50 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1616 1
6 1.9347 120.00 2.4364 -17.51 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1616 5
7 2.1327 190.00 2.4988 -17.34 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1616 4

So lets say I wanna replace column 3 from row 3 to row 7 with a data from another file which is given below:
54.00
239.00
53.00
237.00
52.00
165.00
235.0

So the final output file should be like this:
a.txt nobla 6 gadf 72.500 1.600 1.800 .850 5.250 8.540
A# rad ang ht prf bk sd dia type blade
1 0.3081 54.00 1.9235 -17.50 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1613 1
2 0.6509 239.00 2.0316 -17.50 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1613 4
3 1.0128 53.00 2.1457 -17.50 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1616 1
4 1.3748 237.00 2.2598 -17.50 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1616 4
5 1.6986 52.00 2.3619 -17.50 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1616 1
6 1.9347 165.00 2.4364 -17.51 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1616 5
7 2.1327 235.00 2.4988 -17.34 18.00 -3.00 0.6250 1616 4

And I will post the code whatever i have tried soon. I started with awk and cut commands..but never got it to work and also tried PASTE command too.

Software :: Finding A Tool That Can Directly Convert Mp3 File To A Swf File?

Jan 26, 2009

I'm looking for a tool that can directly convert mp3 file to a swf file. Tried ffmprg - 'ffmpeg -i master.mp3 -ar 22050 -ab 32 -f swf -y -vn new.swf', output is as follows:

Output #0, swf, to 'new.swf':
Stream #0.0: Audio: 0x0000, 22050 Hz, stereo, 0 kb/s
Stream mapping:
Stream #0.0 -> #0.0
Unsupported codec for output stream #0.0

I found a way to perform this task using ffmpeg to convert the mp3 file to a wav file, and converting the wav into a swf file using swftools (wav2swf), although this is not a good option because the output swf file size is very big - for a 12mb input 320kbps stereo mp3 file, the swf file is 25mb. Also downloaded a free direct mp3 to swf conversion software, which had an output swf file - with the same 12mb mp3 file - of ~400kb.

The requirements I have from the tool are:

1. Can be ran from the shell.

2. Direct conversion, or an indirect one that will produce a small output swf file.

3. Suport for multiple file conversion is a plus.

Both machines can ssh right in to each other so I was figuring there must be some script or tool out there that would allow me to type out something like remote [file] [tool & args] to send my file to the other machine, get it processed, then get it back.
