General :: Fedora 9 (64bit) Won't Recognize 8G Of RAM?
Feb 1, 2010
I just upgraded my computer with a couple more sticks of RAM and have it up to 8G now. I duel boot so I know that Vista (64bit) recognizes my 8G, and Memtest86+ recognizes my 8G, but for some reason Fedora 9 (64bit) says it has 3.1 G RAM. Is this a problem with Fedora 9 (64bit) or is it some configuration thing I've missed?

I am a total Noob, I couln't find the answer to my question anywhere. I need to run Matlab with 4GB of RAM and I have been told Fedora 64bits is the best environement for that. I downloaded the iso for the Fedora 14 x86_64. I first booted using the live CD and was surprised to see that only 3.4GB are recognized. The computer is a HP with dual core 64bits intel cpus and the motherboard is supposed to handle until 8GB of RAM, I have currently 2 x 2GB installed.
I thought it might have been a problem from the live CD and I proceeded to install, but still same problem, only 3.4GB recognized. Most threads I have found mention the PAE kernel but from what I understand this only applies to 32bits Fedoras ?

I am having a problem recognizing the full 24GB memory on a dell PowerEdge R610 system I just purchased. This is the Fedora 11 preview version, uname -a returns this:Linux comp1 2.6.29.3-140.fc11.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue May 12 10:44:27 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
this is the off the shelf box from Dell and it is a quad-core with 24GB memory, but the OS can only recognize about 3GB, here is the free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 2980 607 2373 0 24 176
the system is otherwise functioning normal. how to get the full 24GB of mem recognized?

I have a raid 5 array formatted with ntfs; My Ubuntu OS is not able to recognize the raid 5 array but my windows 7 OS can. I had this working before when I installed ubuntu via wubi but now since i installed it as a dual boot OS I am having issues trying to mount this raid 5 volume. So far i have tried reinstalling the dmraid, ntfs config manager, and storage device manager however nothing seems to help me recognize my raid 5 array.
P5N32 E-SLI PLUS MOTHERBOARD: RAID 5 ARRAY NTFS with NVIDIA's raid chipset that comes built in with motherboard.

i have severe problem with my Thinkpad R500 - it simple doesnt recognize/wont mount any blank/empty dvd.1) First, it is not hardware Problem: DVD Burner read all formats, and works good under Windows.2) it is not CD/DVD Format issue- i tested Fuji, Platinum, Sony, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-R...3) it has nothing to do with brasero. I tested k3b, gnomebaker, nautilu-cd-burner and some other problems.So, this Issue make my dvd burner useless...Does anyone knows if this problem is solved, or what bug should i report?

I have the simple fortran codes as:
Code:
integer :: i1=2455121, i2=2455121
real :: s1=0.19123840, s2=0.20749992
real*8 :: a1, a2
a1=i1+s1; a2=i2+s2
[Code]....
When s1 and s2 are stated with 'real*8', the 64bit and 32bit systems get the same results.

Can anyone get the website below to work correctly with Firefox 3.5 and F11 64bit?[URL]...All I see is the background scrolling slowly and jerkily, none of the buttons at the bottom work. Reboot into Windows 7 and IE8: the same site is fast, smooth, the buttons work and the product details appear correctly in the centre of the screen.
I've tried disabling all adblock /pop up block options, ensured all javascript options are enabled and no change. Could this be a problem with the 64 bit flash player (installed from leigh's sticky thread) or a problem with OpenJDK?

Edit: now working, thanks very much Leigh and Dangermouse.
Anyone successfully installed AIR and iPlayer on F11?
I've switched to 32 bit Adobe flash, tried Autoten for AIR and Dangermouse's advice for iPlayer: url.html but it's not working, and trying to install AIR from url results in an endless busy downloading graphic .
I assume my problem is a lack of required packages, though I searched the repositories using YUM extender for the packages listed here: url.html and can't see them either as installed or available.

Now the issue that i am facing is that my 32bit fedora system does not showing and suppoting more than 3.XX gigs of RAM when i consult "/proc/meminfo", "free -m" and "top". Now i have done two thing, first i have installed a PAE version of kernel. In result of this my system become two slow with the following error at startup. Error: starting udev: wait timeout. will continue in the background <Failed> Secondly, i installed a 64bit version of Fedora 10 but still it showing not more than 3GB of memory. Also a kernel bug system alerts me of not supporting more than 3gigs of RAM and ask me to send that bug to[URL]

I removed iptstate.x86_64, again run yum update, and than, ibnetfilter_conntrack got installed. I tried to install iptstate.x86_64 again, but i get Quote:

I'm currently a windows xp user but am making the switch over to something open source. My friend said fedora is excellent and so I might give it a shot granted I can get my aaxa p2 pocket projector to work on it. I use my laptop for a LOAD of presentations so it is of the utmost important that my OS can sync my projector. here is what I need it to do:
in those pictures, it is simply acting as a USB drive where I can drag and drop images from my desktop on to the projector itself. This is what I need it to do on the fedora platform as well. I want to say it should work no problem but i am unsure. I know the easiest answer would be to stick to windows because it works, but i'm sick and tired of having to reformat my computer every year because it becomes so cluttered with windows attacking spy/malware and viruses.
I've even been thinking about moving over to a *gasp* mac for this issue, but I hear that macs don't sync up to the aaxa projector very well. there is info on the site but i can't find any support so someone with more experience might be able to find it. [URL]..
oh, and I ask if it would recognize as a monitor because if I can't just put files directly on, i suppose I can throw it VGA to VGA and dual monitor my presentations - this is worser case scenario.

I've noticed that some users post here and that the forums put the little fedora icon on their post so it recognizes what distro they are running. I have a default install of Fedora 15 and all I get is a penguin for generic linux. I know in the grand scheme of things this is not important at all, however it's the little things that add up sometimes so I'd like to know how did you do it.

There are 3 IDE drives in this box.
hda has Debian Lenny installed (with swap) and is to remain.
hdb1 has a linux distro on it.
hdb2 is a data partition and is to remain.
No other partitions on hdb.
HDD is data only (not really relevant but mentioned for completeness)
The system boots via Grub from MBR on hda.
I'm trying to install F10-i686-KDE-LiveCD on hdb1 but F10 won't allow it without modifying the partition tables which will, of course, wipe my data on hdb2. hdb seems to be a happy disk; e2fsck shows it clean and both partitions open properly in Konqueror within the LliveCD.
