I switched to Linux recently to start learning PHP and MySQL, and used this video on ..... to learn how to install all the desired packages and stuff[URL]... Everything got installed correctly up until 6:48, at the time I didn't know that you need to press space bar to get the star in the box to select the desired configuration, thusly causing myPhpAdmin not to be installed correctly and localhost/myphpadmin not showing up.
So after trying to reinstall it, and then removing all the packages and re installing, this specific set up for the db-config will not show up. Is there a way to completely remove all of these packages and start fresh?
I also tried installing the LAMP server thing, but also myphpadmin fails to get installed properly.
Windows XP Pro, VMware and Kubuntu as the guest. Tried several different ways of adding LAMP server, via the Konsole and also via Synatpic and although I can get into localhost and it says "it works" doesn't actually take me to a list which includes the links to Apache and phpmyadmin like some tuts show. Also if I make the php test page that also works, but I cannot get phpmyadmin to work. When I look in the var/www folder there are only 3 files there and not the apache2 and phpmyadmin folders as shown on a lullabot tutorial.
Decided I'd like to take a look at OpenSUSE and installed onto my desktop. Already successfully dual booting Ubuntu 10.10 and Windows XP (which I keep purely for iTunes). When I start the PC the Ubuntu grub menu showing Ubuntu and Windows options has been replaced by a Suse-branded screen showing something that looks (to my untrained eye) like a grub menu. Ubuntu and Suse are listed. If I select Ubuntu I am shown a dos screen with "Error 15: file not found". I am then taken to the old Ubuntu grub screen but trying to boot Ubuntu from that menu returns the same error. I know all the data is still there - I can mount the drive in Suse and view all my documents.
I have searched the forums and tried to follow some of the instructions given in response to similar threads but I'm afraid I didn't get very far. Please assume that I have NO PRIOR KNOWLEDGE of Linux! I really know nothing about it and am only just getting to grips with basic terminal commands. The past couple of updates have messed up my localhost phpMyAdmin application. After the update I get the following error. Cannot start session without errors, please check errors given in your PHP and/or webserver log file and configure your PHP installation properly.
I have the old files backed up and when I restore them everything is ok. Why doesn't the update work? I figured it had to be a path or permissions problem. I gave unrestricted access to all users on all files and it still does not work. I found a php script in a phpMyAdmin wiki and it gives me this: If a session could be started successfully you should not see any Warning(s), otherwise check the path/folder mentioned in the warning(s) for proper access rights.The current "session.save_path" is "/var/lib/php5". Session file name: "sess_dee3dp1j6takbdtpvl702nbcptdivh82". which seems to me to say everything is cool pathwise.
I setup opensuse 11.2 with lamp. I then installed the lastest version of phpmyadmin. All works great except I get an alert at the bottom of my phpmyadmin login page along the lines of "...cannot load mcrypt setting" I created a phpinfo.php page and I don't see any info on mcrypt. Doesn't appear to be installed. Is this an issue with my lamp setup or with phpmyadmin. I have read differing views. Some say its related to php others to phpmyadmin. Can anyone give me instruction on how to install and, if needed, configure mcrypt?

I have one workspace set up and under my exectuable(will call maintest from now on) I have two items in my link libraries under project build options being soA and soB (so A is the shared object that maintest uses, soB is the SO that soA uses) I also have linker options pthread and ldl
At the beginning of my maintest I do my dlsym and load in each function that I will be using
I always run my program using maintest, because when I have one of the SO as the startup project(turns bold) and try to run it gives me "You must select a host application to run a library"
I tried to set up this host library, i Go to Menu->Project->SetProgramArguments and change the Host Application to the debug version of my maintest
I then hit OK and try to run again but I get the same error: "You must select a host application to run a library"
If I get this part working - which I need help doing, is tehre other steps that need to be taken to debug the so's? or will this make it so when i hit f8 it will run.
i ran into a problem when i installed mplayer on suse 11.1 from source, it works just fine BUT it has no GUI.When i try to use the command "gmplayer", it returns 'bash: gmplayer: command not found
Every time I try to access localhost/phpmyadmin or localhost/phpmyadmin/index.php I get a 404 - Not Found. But, http://localhost/testphp.php works OK. I had Apache installed in the past but removed it and recently installed Lighttpd. I'm using Lubuntu 10.10 a flavor of Ubuntu and using my laptop (localhost)as a testbed to learn. I have tried restarting Lighttpd after each change to the conf file. Here is my lighttpd.conf.

I have the ISO (that I had previously) on a USB courtesy of UNetBootIn. All appears well until, quite quickly, I receive an error after the loading process which goes something like:

I.e., gets as far as the very beginning of the loader and then: bork.

Kmix will not start any more. It might have something to do with an online update I installed last night. Here is the output from a console. I can't make any sense of it.

Similarly, if I click on System>Add/Remove Software>Package Collections, I get No groups could be found. A cache refresh should fix this. I don't see how to do a cache refresh. I tried rpm --rebuilddb, which didn't do any good and um clean all which also did no good. I did manage to do the updates with yum updates But I don't want to have to use yum at the command line all the time to do updates.

I am trying to create a package for Moblin using the Moblin Package creator application in Ubuntu. The RPM package gets created successfully, but when I execute that package in Moblin OS in the terminal I get the following error message: Error while loading shared libraries: libgda-4.0.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory.
I understand that the above libraries are missing on my system and I need to add them. My question here is do I have to add them manually after the installation of the package or can the package itself include these libraries and copy them to proper locations when the package is installed. In case the libraries can be included in the package I want to know how that can be done.
I'm trying to sync a folder between my Windows install and my PCLinux install. Same machine, Windows 7 on the C drive and Linux on an external USB hard drive.

it seems i have successfully installed LAMP.. i have a very basic page below that works when invoking "data()" but when i try to connect to mysql server (by removing the comments "//") it would just return a blank page.
