Laptop : Dell Latitude D620 - Intel Core2Duo T5500 1.66GHz - Intel 945GM graphic - 2GB DDR2 667 RAM - Samsung 400GB SATA 5400rpm Harddisk. OS : Debian Squeeze amd64 - Gnome. I browse the web with this laptop,with ethernet connection,with Icewesel running 2 tab,just after 5 minutes,it auto turn off itself. Never happen before,I don't know what happen. This laptop only support 2D,there's no 3D graphic driver,so no visual effect apply. I start the laptop after 10 minutes,type sensors and get this output :
acpitz-virtual-0
Adapter: Virtual device
temp1: +46.5°C (crit = +126.0°C)
* Before it auto shutdown,I place my laptop on desk with a simple rack to lift the rear from desk about 5cm,without cooling pad,and no direct wind flow from my desk fan as I always did.
I upgraded to F13 this week. And autologin just sits with autologin present, but I have to click the autologin (rather than a user name) and then click again to actually login. That's not so "auto" anymore if I can't push the power button and come back in x minutes with everything and running.
I had this in my /etc/gdm/custom.conf
TimedLoginEnable=true
TimedLogin=marty
TimedLoginDelay=8
What changed and what do I need to do now to get autologin to get off it's ass and log me in?
I'm using mencoder to capture audio from a Encore ENLTV-FM3 video capture device. I have recently noticed that, since one week ago, when the machine was forcibly restarted due to a power outage, all recordings are slightly pitched, they play back slower than they should.
I narrowed down the problem to the following command line:
$ time mencoder -really-quiet -tv driver=v4l2:device=/dev/video1:chanlist=us-cable:audiorate=32000:alsa:adevice=hw.1:input=0:amode=1:normid=11 -endpos 00:10:00 -ovc copy -oac pcm -of rawaudio -o test-32000.wav tv://69
real 9m54.886s
user 0m5.536s
sys 0m1.740s
$ ls -l test-32000.wav
-rw-r--r--@ 1 martin martin 76800000 Mar 15 17:20 test-32000.wav
Somehow, mencode managed to gather precisely 10 minutes worth of raw audio in 9m 55s. That's not physically possible, unless the capture device's A/D converters are "overclocked". I can't think of any other explanation besides hardware failure. Can that be? Could it be that something got burnt during the power outage and now the capture device's internal clock went nuts?
Since the machine's restart, I've also noticed dmesg is flooded with entries like this:
CE: hpet increased min_delta_ns to XXX nsec
Which seem to indicate that the computer's high precision event timer is somehow out of sync. Does this have to do with the audio issue? Can it be that the audio converter's sample rate is linked to the HPET? I'm totally lost here. Has anyone bumped into something similar?
I am getting an error after the self boot sequence when after X minutes the system auto boots the highlighted option in my case it is mint 7 after that screen an error comes up with Random numbers and letters then Stuck?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed SVN and running it fine. Update and commit and all are running without issues and running it under DAV from apache on Ubuntu server.
Now I need to run post-commit hook to auto update a testing staging server to test the changes. Without post-commit hook, everything works fine. The post-commit hook if run individually as a script manually runs fine without issues and it updates the said working copy. But if it is run by SVN, it somehow does not run and gives error to the client from where commit was done. This is the error I get for the post-commit script:
Code:
When I commit changes on a SVN repository, I always run into the following problem in the terminal in Ubuntu: Error reading /home/ssylee/.nano_history: Permission denied.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have started once month ago using git locally in my computer to keep different version of my files.
For that I am using
Code:
git add file to add a new file to my git system
and
Code:
git commint
to commit changes.
Let's say that I am implementing a file called git.R and I have commited so far 4 times.
understand what is the best way
a) To check the differences between the changes I did to the file git.R
b) Restore as current git.R the third commit out of four I did
c) Restore the second commited git.R as git2.R
I'm attempting to use svn (client-side) on an Ubuntu 9.10 virtual machine and, although I am able to check out without issue, I seem unable to commit changes to the repository and get the error:
svn: Commit failed (details follow): svn: Server sent unexpected return value (403 Forbidden) in response to MKACTIVITY request for '/svn/rockoon_repos/!svn/act/8ed27527-fbfc-4dd5-b2aa-5a4d4b3e4e14'
I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the fact that the svn server uses ssl authentication (the server is running subversion+apache on a windows server box in case that matters).
The strange thing is that I am able to commit to the same repository on another computer using Tortise SVN (ie on Windows) without issue, so it seems that the issue must be client side (most resolutions I found for this issue online seemed to be server side fixes). I've also checked to make sure that I'm using "https" in the checkout URL.
I am currently interested in switching from vim to emacs.One of the more compelling reasons for this is the smooth integration with a unix environment. The most experienced emacs users I have seen have a bash prompt at the bottom of their window, with stdout going to a buffer right above it. They then interact with the output of programs such as grep in interesting ways.I am on Ubuntu 10.04 and the default emacs environment does not seem to do much for me in the way of integration. For example, in the M-x shell mode, output from basic commands like ls produce lots of strange characters and hitting the up arrow does not go to previous commands.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am doing some project work and for that using the server at college with ssh connection. Every time I try to open emacs on the terminal after connecting, it opens emacs in the terminal itself i.e. not its own window. On my laptop on which ubuntu is installed, emacs always opens up in its own window an thats how I am used to it. There are several problems when it opens in the terminal like when I try to use commands such as M-V, actually terminal's view menu opens up, its very frustrating. Also I am pretty sure that the college server runs on red hat and has X installed on it. So what do I need to do to get my emacs window back.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe facilities offered by any text editor to look for a string are highly superior to those offered by search engines such as that of Google or the one used by LQ>Search. To only speak of the most one elementary that comes to my mind, you can reach 'john smith' by searching with the string 'hn smi' in any decente editor, but I know of no search engine that offers this feature.
On the other hand, I have always heard of the power of Vim and Emacs. For instance, they say there is no thing Emacs cannot do. Lets advocate to the job of adding Google searches the ability to find 'john smith' by using 'hn smi' as the matching pattern. Or to add regular expression capabilities. Could I use Vim/Emacs to solve this problem?
A little light into the meaning of my words: It would be Vim/Emacs the one in charge of making the Internet connection, connecting to Google and send appropriate commands go Google. Then, to look for my string, I would be directly using Vim/Emacs which, upon receiving my commands, would send the appropriate ones to Google and return control to me.
I want to copy 100 rows from the openoffice calc file to a txt file opened in emacs at console mode, and I can't do it correctly.
I've open an openoffice cal file, and I select all rows and do copy. I've a txt file opened in emacs console. When I do paste, it will only be pasted 25 rows, and not all.
I don't know what the problem is. I ssh on to a linux machine and
setenv DISPLAY mylocalhostname:0
emacs temp.temp
Emacs: Cannot connect to X server mylocalhostname:0.
Check the DISPLAY environment variable or use `-d'.
Also use the 'xhost' program to verify that it is set to permit connections from your machine.
