Ubuntu :: Change Order Of Boot Options?

Jul 5, 2010

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 x64 in a three-boot configuration; the first boot choice screen (the one I would like to change) gives the options of booting to Ubuntu, 3 options I don't understand, and booting to Windows 7. Unfortunately, at least for me, Ubuntu is at the top and is the default. [The third choice is Win XP x32 - but it appears on a separate screen]

My question: How can I make the boot to Windows 7 the default choice?

General :: Used DD Command With No Options

Dec 31, 2010

I was in the CLI experimenting with lynx and then I thought let's see what this dd thing can do and usually when I run commands without parameters just gives me an brief idea about what can I use. With dd it just hangs on there like it would be doing something ...

I immediately quit that terminal and then I couldn't mount my ntfs big important lifesaver partition. I rebooted and now I can. I just want to ask what damage could dd make if run without any parameters. I don't have any external backup medium.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Program To Download In Order To Get Options As One Does From Properties In Windows 7?

Apr 7, 2011

In Windows 7, the options are pretty nice - ability to change track name, artist, composer, album, song number in album, etc., all from "Properties." In Ubuntu 10.10, Properties really gives you the bare minimum. Is there a program to download in order to get the same sort of basic options as one does from Properties in Windows 7?

General :: Host Command And Web Browser's Don't Accept Hosts.conf Order

Mar 4, 2011

Why does ping see audit.median.hu as 127.0.0.0, and why does host -t a audit.median.hu see it as 193.68.35.149? audit.median.hu is just an example site [hosts ads, etc.]

I just have a caching nameserver on my Fedora PC:

I configured my DNS server addresses in the Network-Manager Applet: 127.0.0.1, 8.8.8.8

Even with Wireshark, I can see it:

So the big question: Why don't the host command or my web browser recognize that I have modified audit.median.hus IP address?

Ubuntu :: Terminal Command To List Disk Usage In Order?

Mar 29, 2010

I regularly use 'df -h' to check usage on each of my primary directories and mount points.

I'm currently somewhat confused by disk usage within my filesystem, so I'd like to do the following:

Display directory size of all, or say, the 10 largest, subdirectories to a specified directory. So, if I passed the root (/) directory, output would list the subdirectory of / with the largest disk usage first and its associated disk usage listed in human readable format (either M or G suffix as appropriate), followed by the subdirectory and usage for the second largest directory and so on.

Can anyone suggest a command or series of commands to do this?

Ubuntu :: Command / Script To Rename Files In Datetime Order?

Jun 1, 2010

I'm trying to rename all files in a folder as such:

1.jpg
2.jpg
3.jpg

Renaming them is no problem, the problem I have is, they need to be in order of the datetime that they were taken, so that the 1.jpg would be the oldest file there. The difference in filetimes is going to be very small, around 3 or 4 tenths of a second.

The reason I need to do this is that I have another script (not quite finished yet), that takes the next three files in a loop and applies qtpfsgui to them to output an HDR image to another folder, then move on to 4,5 & 6, and: repeat.

Software :: Printing To Cups-pdf Via Command Line With Options?

Jun 30, 2011

I'm having a hard time trying to print documents to PDF via cups-pdf at the command line and get all of the nice formatting options that the GUI print spooler dialogs provide. I know how to do "lpr -P Generic-CUPS-PDF-Printer filename" to get a general file printed to a PDF, but this method clearly is missing all of the nice formattingptions that get passed when using a GUI print spooler (margins, fonts, dpi, paper size, etc..). I tried to use ps to capture whatever command is being sent by the spooler but couldn't figure it out, since I'm not really sure what commands get called by the spooler

Debian :: Execute Command Mactime In Order To Control Changes Made To The File System?

Apr 23, 2011

I am trying to execute command mactime in order to control changes made to the file system, but I am getting an error. I am running the shell as root, and it is the first time I run the command in this system - Debian Squeeze up to date. The I/O is as follows:

cannot exec /bin/hostname: No such file or directory
cannot exec /bin/uname -n: No such file or directory
Cannot open /var/cache/tct/data/Amnesiac/body: No such file or directory

The first three lines of output are the ones that are worrying at the moment; I am not concerned with the last. Although error messages suggest the programs date, hostname and uname do not exist in /bin directory, they are available as shown by

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Command Line Or With Abcde's Built-in Options?

Jan 15, 2010

(1) I'm wondering if there is a way to have abcde play the songs while it is encoding? I understand that this would be a lot slower.

(2) Is it possible to have abcde start playing right after it finishes ripping the first track and then have it add on the other tracks to the playlist as it rips them.

Is there anyway to do one or both of these from the command line or with abcde's built-in options?

Programming :: Running Gcov When Executable Has Command Line Input Options

Mar 3, 2011

I have an executable with input options, like so:
Code:
./executable -n 42 -s 42
I've added gcov to the makefiles (compiling with --coverage, -fprofile-arcs, and -ftest-coverage, and linking with -lgcov). It builds fine and creates executable.gcno.

When I try to run gcov, gcov things the options belong to it:
Code:
$ gcov ./executable -n 42 -s 42
gcov: invalid option -- 's'
Usage: gcov [OPTION]... SOURCEFILE...
When I use quotes this happens:

Code:
$ gcov './executable -n 42 -s 42'
executable -n 42 -s 42.gcno:cannot open graph file

The command line options must remain. How can I get gcov to generate the same .gcno file it later looks for?
