General :: Can't Get Internet By Brand New Eeebuntu Installation On EeePC 1005AH

Feb 9, 2010

I've been tempted to try the eeebuntu over my Asus eeePC 1005AH and I've been surprised how simple and smooth the installation went, every component and device has been recognized correctly, from the devise manager is possible to turn on and of the WiFi, Bluetooth, webcam, the 6-cell battery provide me the regular 6+ hours, etc. However I can't get in internet. Managing the network connections from the Control Center I have added manually the SSID and security parameters, or I beleive so becasue differently from windows there is no utility that scan the available wifi networks around.

General :: Grub Failure On EeePC Eeebuntu

Jun 25, 2010

I recently got my EEEPC and wanted to get linux on it. So I did some looking around and this Eeebuntu seems to be the best fit. I'm having some issues here though. I poked around on the Ubuntu site (because I have limited experience there) and googled and searched this forum. I found several solutions but none worked. Ilimited my swap to 1 gig, I created a home partition and a 10gb "/" partition I tried super grub and came back to the error 15 not so lucky grub boot i have dont largest continous install. Manual install and an install side by side.

I swallowed 3 screams and the urge to chuck this pretty little netbook but the ubuntu on my dell laptop has renewed my hope... somewhat. As of right now I'm booting from a live cd in an external DVD drive. I will note that my installs get to 94% or so before the fatal grub error and super grub in its cd form can boot it but super grub boot through uboot cannot. nor can it install or fix grub. So here is where we stand my current FDisk

Installation :: Eeebuntu / Fedora Conflicting In /home - Keep Same Partition Layout

Jan 9, 2010

I ve got Eeebuntu 3.0 installed on one partition, and Fedora 12 installed on another, sharing the same /home partition, and within that, I have them sharing the same user folder. It complicates matters as Eeebuntu (with it's Ubuntu 9.04 base) still has Firefox 3.0.16, and Fedora has 3.5.6 (Adblock no longer works in Eeebuntu, I stupidly upgraded it in Fedora). I want to keep the same partition layout, but resolve these conflicts. Is there any way I can change the /home folder for Fedora, or Eeebuntu so that each one has different settings, but still be on the same /home partition?

OpenSUSE Network :: No Internet Connection On Asus Eeepc 1005HA?

Aug 23, 2009

Within a dual boot option two os are now available on the asus eeepc 1005ha,

(1) the windows xp system and in addition (2) the linux 11.1 version of opensuse.

After and also during the installation process of the linux 11.1 os, an error message had occured:

No network found!

I tried to fix it by changing some settings (network manager on/off), but no

improvement could be achieved. Some people argue to wait for a kernel

update higher than *.27.*

Somebody knows something how to fix the network (eth0) internet connection?

Ubuntu Networking :: Cannot Access Internet With Asus Eeepc 1015p

Nov 18, 2010

i've just installed ubuntu netbook remix 10.10 on my asus eeepc 1015p. whether i use an ethernet cable or wireless, i can establish a connection, but i can't access any websites through firefox or get software via the software manager.

i've attached some terminal screenshots from my attempts at troubleshooting, which i think contain all the relevant hardware info.

i've already searched the forums and see a lot of problems similar to mine, but none seem to involve the same combination of hardware / ubuntu version as me. since i have no experience, i'm hesitant to try to apply solutions that i don't understand and in which i'm not totally confident.

Ubuntu Networking :: 10.10 / Asus EeePC 1001P - Can't Connect To Internet - Only Wifi

Feb 5, 2011

Just got a secondhand Asus EeePC 100P netbook, fresh install of Ubuntu 10.10, and while I can connect to my wireless network and access the router through the browser, I can't connect to the internet. Pinging any other sites, either by domain name or IP, doesn't work. I've tried various things suggested in similar threads (putting in the DNS server info manually, disabling ipv6, restarting about a gazillion times), but nothing's worked so far. (My other computer, a Mac, can connect just fine.)

Attempted to install ndiswrapper, failed miserably, and I'm not sure if that's just for situations where the wifi itself doesn't work?

I'd be very grateful for any suggestions.

Here's what's under Connection Information at the moment:Interface: 802.11 WiFi (wlan0)

Hardware Address: 1C:4B6:85:13:F4
Driver: ath9k
Speed: 1 Mb/s
Security: WEP

Fedora Installation :: Can't Install F15 On Brand New Dell XPS Laptop / Way To Do This?

Sep 8, 2011

I just got my brand new shiny Dell XPS L502X laptop today and planned to do a dual-boot installation between Win 7 and F15. Win 7 went great but I can't even get the 64-bit Live DVD of F15 to load. The splash screen always hangs while the bar loads, but if I push ESC so I can see what's going on in the background, I get a whole lot of different error messages and the last message is "fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed." What I get is nearly identical to what I found in this post. I've already tried the usual kernel options that have always worked for me in the past, such as noapic, noacpi, and nomodeset. However, the Live DVD still won't boot. There's got to be a way to install this. Any ideas?

Ubuntu Installation :: Hard To Install The RAID1 Array In Brand New PC?

Nov 19, 2010

Like it says in the title, I am thinking it should be this hard to install the RAID1 array in my brand new PC. Here is what is happening. I have two brand new 1TB drives that I am attempting a new, fresh install of 10.10 on (in fact, the entire box is new). I am attempting to use the alternate desktop install so that I can have access to the manual partitioning (which is required to setup RAID 1, correct?).

I tried to use the guide here: [URL]... I followed the steps, but when I got the the very end (after selecting and creating the MDs) I get an error message stating that there is no root file system defined. I went back and checked all the steps and I am sure I followed everything in the guide.

Here are some quirks (not sure if they are bugs or not) In step 5 of the disc partitioning, it says to select the bootable flag and set it to yes (I am assuming). I press enter over that options, the screen flashes really quickly to a progress bar, but then comes back to the options screen and it still says bootable flag is off. No matter how many times I do it is says "off".

Also, and here is the bigger problem I think. - So the guide says to select the free space in each drive and then select Automatically Partition the free space, which I do, and it comes back and looks formatted accordingly - has 975.6 GB ext4 / and 24.6 GB swap swap. No Problem there.

BUT - whenever I do the same thing to the second drive, the partitions on the first seem to disappear. Meaning, it doesn't say free space, and has two partitions listed, but the / and the swap (last items in each row) have moved to the second drive partitions. I am not sure if this is how it is supposed to be since the pictures in the linked guide to not show what it looks like after that. THis is driving me crazy and I have to have it set up in RAID 1 and unsure as to what it is I am missing.

Ubuntu :: Install Anthy On My Laptop, Running With Eeebuntu 4?

Feb 25, 2011

I have the following problem: I want to install anthy (an input method for Japanese text) on my laptop, running with eeebuntu 4 (with upgrades). When I tried to do this with synaptic, I recieved the error message "Depends: libanthy0 but it is not going to be installed". So I installed libanthy0 manually (along with anthy-common, on which libanthy0 depends); but when I tried again to install anthy afterwards, I recieved the message "to be removed: anthy-common, libanthy0" and then "Depends: libanthy0 but it is not going to be installed" again.

When I try to install anthy using apt-get, I get the following output:
sudo apt-get install -f anthy
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done

Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation:

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
anthy: Depends: libanthy0 (= 9100h-3) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages
From > sudo apt-get install libanthy0 I get
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done

libanthy0 is already the newest version. 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 191 not upgraded.

Removing libanthy0 and reinstalling it via apt-get hasn't changed anything. Does anyone know how to solve this problem? (I have tried to find it on this page and with google, and although I have found several similar posts, the solutions seemed rather specific to me and didn't help. Still, I'm sorry if I'm asking something that has already been answered somewhere.

General :: Ubuntu - White Screen Of Death (Brand New System Install)

Dec 4, 2009

I am a Linux newbie and did one successful install Ubuntu 9.1 32 bit on my old desktop. Encouraged by that success (and the ease of it), this week I built my own system, which will be my primary system. I am trying to install Ubuntu 9.1 (AMD 64 version) and after the partition selection screen (I chose to partition the entire disk), I immediately get a white blank screen. Then nothing happens. I also tried with Ubuntu 9.1 32 bit, XUbuntu 9.1 64, Ubuntu 9.04 all had the same results.

Not sure if the hardware specs are required, but here they are:
1) Motherboard: MSI KA 780 G
2) Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 630
3) Memory: Corsair 2 x 2 GB, 800 MHz twinx 6400 c6
4) Harddrive: Hitachi sata 300, 1 TB

In desperation, I have started windows XP installation and that seems to progress fine at its leisurely pace. Its formatting the drive right now. During one of the attempts, it did install something*, since after that I see a new ubuntu partition after that. But when I boot from hard disk I get a black screen with cursor. I tried to search thru the forums and nobody seemed to have this exact problem, one guy got a white screen with cursor after a graphics card install, which is not the same. I dont want to go back to windows.

Ubuntu Installation :: No Wifi On EEEpc 1005HAB / Get That?

Feb 23, 2010

I have an EEEpc 1005HAB. It came with windows but loaded Ubuntu. It was the a version called Jaunty I believe. Ironically, when It was installed, everything worked on the NETbook except the NET. After a bunch of google searchs, finally corrected the problem by loading some files (don't remember what they were). Then 9.10 wanted to be installed so I let it. Now the wifi does not work again.

How can I tell what version I have?

How can I see who is out there in wifi land?

This is my first experience with Linux/ubuntu, and it is not very pleasant.

The wifi radio appears to be on as the blue light is on. I did some search's on this forum and one suggestion was to look at the hardware drivers. The list is blank. There were also sudo commands that would 'fix' an install but without wifi, everything failed. A catch 22?

Debian Installation :: Creating A Live USB (Not Booting On EeePc)

Apr 8, 2016

I'm trying to rebuild an old laptop, EeePc 1001PX and I've issues to boot on the usb on it.

I've followed [URL] .... and the only way I manage to make a usb key that will boot is by hd-media/boot.img.gz:

Code: Select all# zcat boot.img.gz > /dev/sdb
# mount /dev/sdb /media/usb
# cp /tmp/debian-8.4.0-i386-CD-1.iso /media/usb
# sync
# umount /media/usb

I managed to install Debian using this technique to build the usb key.

However I'm having an issue on the laptop with the wifi card (Atheros AR9285) and after a night trying to make it work I'd like to check if I'd would have the same issue Ubuntu.

So I've been desperately trying to make a bootable usb key with Ubuntu on it.... It boots on my laptop but not on this EeePc...

I've tried:

Code: Select allcat /tmp/myimage.iso > /dev/sdb
Code: Select alldd if=/tmp/myimage.iso of=/dev/sdb && sync

I've installed multibootusb [URL] ... and liveUsb install [URL] .... which doesn't work on my EeePc...

Wh only this technique of using is hd-media/boot.img.gz is working on that laptop?

I'd like to try to install Ubuntu via grub using a partition [URL] .... but I need to create 2 partitions and so to boot on a external system.

I've downloaded gparted-live-0.25.0-3-i686.iso but like with Ubuntu I don't manage to create a bootable USB key for this crappy EeePc.
