View 1 RepliesProblems with xen 3.1.2 creating and installing domU CentOS 5.5 I am trying to do a virt-install --prompt --paravirt, and the install error out while trying to download install RPMs. I have googled for xen centos virt-install and various permutations. I have found similar howtos for 5.4 and 5.3, but they resulted in the same outcome. I did find several posts with similar issues, but no solution was posted.[URL]..

View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying to install CentOS 5.4 x64 on my I7 as a workstation, I'm having 2 issues.
1. I can't seem to get grub to boot directly to the GUI
2. There are GUI issues. Running startx gives me a black screen and in fact, my monitor goes off which tells me its not getting a signal from the graphics card (Nvidia GeForce 9600)
I tried following this post: [URL] but I could not find any errors and indeed checking the log file provides no errors.
The reason I want to stick with x64 is because I have 8GB of RAM I want to take advantage of because a lot of stuff will be virtualized. If it makes any difference, I do not have any virtualization packages installed.
I just set up a Centos distribution in a VirtualBox, it actually looks like everything looks fine so far. I can connect to the internet both with the browser and with my terminal (i.e. ssh and ping work). The problem is that yum doesn't seem to find anything. When I do
Code:
yum update
it says:
Code:
Loadad Plugins: fastestmirror
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
After that nothing happens. note, that it is not frozen: The terminal cursor is still blinking, when I hit CTRL+C i get a "Exiting on user cancel"
At first I thought it was fastestmirror, so I tried
Code:
yum --disablepluging=fastestmirror update
which resultet again in the blinking cursor but otherwise there were no other progresses.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an issue with a specific piece of hardware running an Asterisk PBX. Basically it freezes at some times. I've noticed its running an SMP kernel (Centos 5.4), and i'm hoping i can disable this/recompile kernetl without SMP support. How can i do this?
It's running a VIA C7 cpu.
Code:
[root@localhost asterisk-1.4.29]# cat /proc/cpuinfo
processor : 0
vendor_id : CentaurHauls
cpu family : 6
[Code]....
How can i disable SMP, and see if its maybe this tha'ts causing the problems?
I have tried appending nosmp or maxcpus=0 and noreplace-smp to the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst,but it keeps loading the smp kernel....

I have downloaded the following CentOS 5.5 DVD iso files and burn the same using Nero Express:
1. CentOS-5.5-x86_64-bin-DVD-1of2.iso (4.09 GB)
2. CentOS-5.5-x86_64-bin-DVD-2of2.iso (412 MB)
I am trying installing it on a Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. I could boot the machine successfully with the DVD 01. After selecting the Installation method as "Local CDROM" it says: CD Not Found. The CentOS CD was not found in any of your CDROM drives. Please insert the CentOS CD and press OK to retry and it ejects the DVD in a splash. I tried mounting the DVD in a DVD drives in Windows XP SP2 and it is showing the content correctly. I also tried mounting the iso file with PowerISO Virtual Drive manager in Windows XP SP2 and it is mounting well.
I tried many times but of no success. Earlier I tried the following also (before downloading the DVD image files):
1. I successfully installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Server Edition on the same machine.
2. The same machine is also working fine with CentOS 5.5 Live CD.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have CentOS installed on my laptop. I hooked up my TV via VGA and it works, just not as I'd like it to. The left side (on the tv) is cut off, like the image is justified too far left. I want it to be centered, but I also want to use a different resolution. You see, I use a netbook, and thus my laptop screen is tiny, meaning some things cant fit in the same window without scrolling. I want my TV to fix that for me.

I am creating a DVD iso of the mentioned six .iso file using 'mkisofs' in CentOS. During the process, at about 12%, an error occurred.
