Sep 8, 2010I have a problem to install the VMware Server (VMware-server-2.0.2-203138.x86_64.rpm) on "Fedora 13 Desktop Edition 64-bit".I traied all tips I found, but nothing was OK.Please look my linux configuration and the error messages:

Feb 16, 2011I have already installed windows xp and ubuntu 10.10 on my MSI U135 netbook. Today I wanted to install ubuntu netbook edition. However after installation and rebooting i can't see my ubuntu netbook kernel. I have no problem starting ubuntu netbook edition from USB. What might the the problem?

Jun 18, 2011I have just installed 11.04 desktop edition on a freshly built machine with a 3GHz processor and 8GB ram. It has 8GB swap space and a 250GB partition which runs along side a 750GB Windows partition. The problem is it is running incredibly slowly. The interface freezes up every few minutes and stuff takes ages to load. I have run Ubuntu on computers with less than a 1GHz processor before and it has been fine. Should I just reinstall?

Aug 7, 2011I've managed to get some sound through the system with kernel 2.6.40.1. I use multiple sound cards, I have problems with keeping the same order. I added in etc/modprobe.conf The list of sound devices, putting my D66 card as device 3, Rebooted and cat /proc/asound/cards showed all fore devices in the correct order. I got audio through one of the apps , and started to try and get another ,wsjt, to function.

Dec 9, 2009I am trying to replace just the kernel (no modules) for my default kernel on FC 11. I use the default .config file and just change a few things and then run the make command. After I replace the kernel and reboot the system the password comes up for the encrypted filesystem and it does not take my password for some reason. what I need to do to get this working?

Feb 20, 2010I have just made a clean installation of FC12. The only change I have made for now is to disable the NetworkManager and set a static ip address. My problem is that when I click "shutdown" it doesn't complete the shutdown and hangs due to some kind of kernel error. Then I have to use the power-switch to shut it down. It doesn't happen every time, but it happens often (every 3rd shutdown or so).

Fedora :: Kernel Update Hangs System During Boot / Solve It?
Sep 4, 2010I have a problem with the kernel update to 2.6.34.6. Up until 2.6.33.x my system boots fine, but with this update the boot stops at the moment that the mouse cursor should become visible. To resolve the problem, I've gone back to 2.6.33.x and removed the 2.6.34 kernel but I wonder what happens with the next kernel update.
Anyone else having this problem?

Aug 2, 2011One of our F14 machines was originally set-up with the i386 Kernel. I found out it had a kernel crash and the person tried to fix it by reinstalling the kernel, unfortunately they installed i686. Now some of our software that was setup to work with i386 is not cooperating. Is there a way to switch from the i686 kernel to i386 without reinstalling the system?

Dec 16, 2010i want to add a new system call.im following this guide [URL] in this step 6 he said add __NR_mycall to some number, in unistd.h. in include/asm/unistd.h there are are around 1079 calls for different hardwares. and the __NR_SYSCALLS is also defined many places. I don't know where to add my new system call. and another qn is. whether the number for syscall in unistd.h and arch/x86/syscall_32.s both should be same?or they can be different.

Dec 27, 2009I'm trying to install Sun VirtualBox Additions into Fedora 12 which is installed in VirtualBox running on top of Windows 7. As the Fedora install was originally a live distro which was then installed to the HD, it may be missing some essential files for compiling.
My attempt to install the VBoxLinux additions is incomplete and I can't get the full range of video displays. The largest is This is the error message: "Your system does not seem to be set up to build kernel modules".
Should I update Fedora to install all the updates available? I did find one webpage which gave an accurate list of files to install for this purpose but can't find it now.

I have a patch that I had compiled against a custom kernel for 2.6.27.xx how ever it does not work with the latest kernel in Fedora 11. It is beyond me to rewrite the patch to work with a different kernel.

Feb 11, 2010I use a pretty fresh installed RHEL 5.4, which should be very similar to Fedora. After the basic installation I installed xen and xen-kernel via yum with no errors. I can select the xen-kernel at boot time. But after booting the normal kernel shows up.
[root@noname boot]# uname -r
2.6.18-164.11.1.el5
My /boot/grub/menu.lst looks like:

timeout=5
splashimage=(hd0,0)/grub/splash.xpm.gz

I can't see anything wrong and I did not change/try anything.
