View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been using linux for about 4 months now and decided i fancy the challenge of building a LFS system(Using book version 6.7). I have got all the way up to the point of gcc being installed and then have to create the symlink to libgcc.a
Now i have typed in the command and tried copy and pasting but i always get the following output:

Now it cannot find -gcc it appears but states at the bottom ./libgcc.a file exists.
If its a fatal error or what I can do to possibly correct it!
well i suppose this makes the problem ever more complex because i'm acutally attempting to make a cross compile tool chain from amd64 to arm.i've successfully built binutils and configured the kernel headers. now i'm stuck on gcci'm running Code: sudo make -j 4 when i get the issue (the -j 4 if you don't know helps speed up the process considerably by using more threads)

glibc
libgcc
All I can find online are rpms... anybody know where I can get these as tarballs?
I've been having trouble with CUPS.I uninstalled it and I wanted to re-install it. When I removed CUPS some other files were removed too. I don't have an option of installing the software or updating a system, in the Control Center.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm going to be installing Windoze (because 3D graphics are still not there in Linux), but that will of course override the MBR. So how do I rewrite it? I just tried starting from the Fedora 11 DVD until it got into the 1st graphical screen, and then I tried to mount *any* of my Fedora partitions - I think it's made 5 of them (God knows why!!), but anyway,none of them would mount except /boot - kept saying "wrong fs type or superblock" etc. My plan was of course, to chroot my current Fedora partition, and then run grub-install, but of course I can't if the partition itself doesn't mount.

View 12 Replies View RelatedI work for a company that builds computers for military applications. We have a unit that is using Redhat Enterprise Linux Server using a CF Card for the HDD. The CF Cards were prepared for us by the customer. We just got them in however, upon testing it will start to boot but it looks for a serial ID plug which we do not have, so when it does not find it, the TERM signal is sent and it shuts down. so we emailed them for instructions on how to get around that. they told us to remove a certain file using the rm command.
The only problem is that we still cannot get redhat to boot, therfore I cannot get to the linux terminal to even use the rm command.
Is there any way I can rm <file> in the GRUB or any other way?
FYI I am not very familiar with linux but I do have a decennt understanding of general programming/scripting.

I've done a search thru the forums on a recent headache but couldn't find anything. now we all know that windows installations knackers the grub boot-up, and it becomes modus-operandi to repair the boot loader, with a live distro. however, in my current dual boot system (vista.sp2/fedora12), i've done a clean install of windows7 over the current windows ntfs partition. as standard, the boot menu would vanish. but when i put in the live-linux cd, gparted now shows the fedora partition (sda6) as LVM2. i'm somewhat of a neophyte with linux, but fedora12, suse11.2 and ubuntu don't seem to yet support this file system.
since i don't have critical data on the fedora partition yet, i usually wouldn't mind reformating this part', but the wireless chipset on my laptop cost a fortune on cups of coffee and beer to install, and in addition i used the fedora12 FEL spin and want to keep the installation intact. is there anyway to make the LVM2 indentifier back to ext3 or 4 and repair grub form there (without loosing the current partition kernal etc.)?

I was using alsa, but then reverted temporarily to pulseAudio due to a minor issue. Later on, I did remove pulseaudio through yum. And that was the end. No matter what alsa/pulseaudio version I install or reinstall...

I am using Nautilus To re-create the problem:
Make a new user
Delete the "$HOME/Templates" folder
Create a "$HOME/Templates" folder
Now, no new templates will be recognized in the right-click menu.
problems: Files created in the Templates folder are not found in the menu of <Right-Click> -> New Document.
In Nautilus, Go -> Templates sends me to /home/$USER/.
Non-solutions:
Restarting the computer does not solve this. I have done about an hour of searching on the internet and I have searched through the Nautilus source code.. I an not good enough with Linux to be able to understand the Nautilus source.
