Mar 11, 2009I need to run a proprietary VPN client (Aventail) that can't use the openssl libraries that are packaged with 64bit F10:The Fedora openssl package does something differently from the original openssl.org package that makes it incompatible with Aventail (see bugzilla ticket 477073) I also believe the Aventail client software requires 32-bit libraries. So, I've determined I need to install 32bit openssl directly from openssl.org, then link my Aventail client to that. Note that I don't want to replace the 64bit openssl libraries currently on my system.
Based on the Bugzilla ticket, I believe I know how to hook up Aventail before I install it simply by supplying a few specific soft links if I can make/compile/whatever the 32bit openssl.org libraries and keep them in their own isolated directory. how to get the 32bit openssl libraries installed in a little corner by themselves on my 64bit system. give a step-by-step on on the commands necessary to place a 32bit version of openssl all by itself in a directory of my choosing?
Fedora :: Getting Skype To Work On 14 - No "yum Install Skype---" Command
Dec 15, 2010I have downloaded & installed the skype beta release for linux (now ancient?) on my newly build fedora 14 (64) box.
Under fedora 12, I made this work after several hours of mucking around by installing old libraries for 32 bit code in /lib and /usr/lib - as I got an error, I found the library and put it in place. This was painful and the WRONG way to do things - I should have been using yum!
It remains a shame that the Skype release for Linux is so old, but that is life.
Can anyone list the libraries needed (prefer yum names if possible) to make this work?
I can do this again the hard way and list the results for others (should have saved for myself, but I never dreamed that a newer Skype release would take so long) , but I am sure many folks have this working already. I am surprised there is no "yum install skype---" command.

Feb 5, 2011i have been working with computers since the age of 11 "22 now" and have taught myself everything i know, from computer repair & networking to Web design, music production and Graphics design, using programs like photoshop, dreamweaver, sony acid, i learned it all myself, anyways that's just a little insight!!!
OK so here is my problem, i have an OLD P4 2.8 GHZ PC with 512MB ram, last year i was able to burn i believe fedora 9 to a CD and install it on this PC before i removed the drive to use as an external drive. "Dont know where the CD went"
I just recently purchased a 40GB hard drive and am looking to reinstall Fedora 14 on this P4 PC, i want to use this PC as a HTPC just for internet, ..... and stream videos, maybe some internet games etc etc, my problem is my main PC cant burn any cd/dvds due to the Drive's being burned out from burning xbox games at 4x on a regular basis, the PC i want to install Fedora on only accepts CD's and even then it barely reads anything!!
Now that you know my situation i want to know if i can take the 686MB 32bit iso image and put it on a 2GB usb drive and boot/install it to the HD that way on my old P4 PC, i want Fedora 14 as my main desktop, no partitions or walk arounds. If this helps the mobo on that OLD pc with the P4 is a p4vmm2 v5 i believe the p4 is 2.8ghz, ram is 512mb and i was able to install a 64mb nivida card agp 4x over the stock 32mb agp card it came with!
Last year windows xp was sketchy on it, i installed i think Fedora 9 and it ran great, but at that time it was a 120GB maxtor ide, and i decided to use it as an external drive for my main pc to back up alot of goodies, in the end the drive just randomly stopped working and just a few faint clicking sounds before it died. The current hard drive i will be installing on this P4 P4VMM2 mobo is a 40GB Seagate 7200. In the end do you think i can do a HD install from a USB stick with this P4VMM2 MOBO with a 40GB Seagate 7200 HD.

May 25, 2011I'm new to Linux. I've just installed Fedora and I'm wondering how to install Skype since it is not inside the repository. I use a 64bit system. I've seen that it is possible to download it from Skype home page. On some websites I've read to download the dynamic package, not the one for Linux, I did it, it is a compressed file, I've uncompressed it but now I don't know how to go on.
The readme file says to copy the bynary into usr/bin (is the binary the file called skype with no extension) and to install the folders avatars, icons... into usr/shared/skype. I've pasted the skype file into the usr/bin folder, but how do I install the folders, I've tried to copy them in the position, but it doesn't work? What about the files skype.conf and skype.desktop, what do I have to do with them? If this is not the correct way to install Skype, what should I do?

Jan 17, 2010I'm trying to get skype to work on my new system. It seems to install, but trying to run it I get an error message naming a missing dependency. Searching for this with yum whatprovides and installing the result worked in one case, but for the next one, yum install <package containing missing item> returns a few errors of the form:
package <name-version>.fc12.x86_64 (which is newer than <package-version>.fc12.i686) is already installed Is there any way around this? I'd like to get skype working, but am having no luck at the moment. I'd prefer not to remove the .x86_64 packages if I can avoid it in case that breaks something else.

Mar 25, 2010I'm trying to run a library compiled in a 32bit Linux (CentOS) environment on my Fedora11 64bit image. I ran into a few issues with dependencies such as gcc, xml2, ssl plus a whole stack more that existed in /lib64 and no/lib where the binary was expecting them. After a bit of reading around, I found I needed to install the .i586 version of each of the dependencies. After adding most of them, I was left with libssl, libcrypto and libxml2. When I tried to do the following

I got an error stating it could not be copied due to a conflict with the i686 version. I was going to erase the i686 but it was going to remove a ton of other stuff so I created a symbolic link in /lib to point to 64bit version. Eventually, ldd had no missing dependencies so I figured I was good to go. I now get the following errors when I call my library
./SupervisionServer: /usr/lib/liblber-2.4.so.2: no version information available (required by /lib/libphp5.so)
./SupervisionServer: /usr/lib/libldap_r-2.4.so.2: no version information available (required by /lib/libphp5.so)
./SupervisionServer: error while loading shared libraries: /lib/libpalo_ng.so.0: cannot restore segment prot after reloc: Permission denied
PHP is installed and working and the libpalo_ng.so.0 is in the /lib folder
