View 5 RepliesTrying to create a ks file to install all packages (fedora 12 of course). The file have in it:
%packages
@ everything
kernel
kernel-devel
which used to work in RHEL, but in here, I get the message on screen: "You have specified that the group 'everything' should be installed. This group does not exist. Would you like to continue or abort". so what's the group name/code to install all packages?
I got this information of creating raw devices and then starting the service service rawdevices start. But there appears to be no service 'rawdevices'. Please can anyone help me with this?Is there anyway I can create an disk /dev/sda7 and then link it as a raw device?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently bought an host to have a personal website and would like to create a bash script to create make a mirror copy of it and then add it to crontab to run once a week. Essentially what I want to do is to get the website by using wget -m ftp://user***@ftp.host/mydir
Once this is done I'd like to have everything in an archive called mysite.date.tar.7z I've no experience at all of bash scripting but I guess this should be an easy task? How to make the user and password not visible ? Is there any other option better than wget? (maybe rsync it works better?)
i am running into few problems with the script here. I have an FTP server, all configured, and i need to have a script that will create a folder with current dated within a tree as soon as particular user logs in. I was wondering if that is possible with proftpd. if not, can someone suggest how to create a script that will simply create a DIR with date and autorun itself every 24 hours? i am running Debian/Proftpd with Mysql authorization.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to create an install DVD for FC 12. This is the command I would normally use to write CDs
Code:
cdrecord dev=1,0,0 Fedora-12-i386-DVD.iso
But with a DVD, I'm getting this error message:
Code:
cdrecord: Drive does not support TAO recording.
cdrecord: Illegal write mode for this drive.
I really don't want to read several hours of User Manuals to learn how to write a single DVD. This is a standard thing that everyone does, right? What's the easiest way write an iso file to a DVD?
I have a iMac G5 and an eeepc 1000 netbook, and I would like install Fedora 12/13 on it. I have downloaded the Fedora-12-DVD.iso, now that .iso is on my Mac, and I would like to create a bootable usb(8GB) on Mac using the iso file. I did find a few instructions on how to do this in Mac OS X [URL] however, they were concerned with .img files. If I am to expand the iso file I can see several .img files in the img folder and a few in other folder, which do I choose? The obvious choice seemed to be install.iso but it was only 166MB so I thought the whole system could not, possibly be fitted into such a file.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a collection of .MOV files which I want to turn into a DVD. A real DVD, the kind that will play in a stand-alone DVD player. I am not too concerned about fancy menus or anything like that. I just want something my parents can stick in their DVD-VHS combo and hit the "Play" button. I don't know where to begin looking. Has anyone done this? Is there any kind of a How-To or something? What Linux tools exist for doing this?

When I try to create a new PGP key with Seahorse ("Passwords and Encryption Keys"), the combobox for selecting the key type doesn't get filled and the button to advance the dialog is thus disabled. No errors are reported. I've included a link to a screenshot that illustrates the problem. Creating a key with command-line GPG works fine. Upon reinstall of Fedora and an update, with nothing else done to the system, the problem persists. I tried recompiling the latest version-controlled Seahorse commit and the problem persists. Key import/export/signing/etc work fine in Seahorse. I've done a Google search and a search of this forum and can't find evidence of this problem. Works fine in Ubuntu 11.04 x64 on the same system. Fedora 15 x64 (2.6.38.6-27), Seahorse 3.0.1.

Is there a kickstart file somewhere or some other way or creating updated iso's for Fedora? I do a lot of installs testing stuff and it would be nice to create a new install disk every month or so. Cuts down on the update time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter patiently waiting for 30+ hours during install attempts with the "Virtual Machine Manager", I realized that it wasn't going to happen. So then I read about a possibly working version, qemu-kvm How to use this to get a VM install up and going ? For instance, this command appears to begin an install, but where does it actually create a vm image from that?
qemu-kvm -m 512 -cdrom /iso/Fedora-14-i386-DVD.iso
Just started a new job where I test installation scripts and then wipe the system with a fresh install of Redhat each time before testing updated versions. I'm wondering is there a way to create an image of the system I want with the customized packages required rather than having to manually select and deselect a huge amount of packages every time. This would really help make my work much more efficient.

I have downloaded a bootable DOS iso CD image that I have burnt to CD and can boot from.I need to add more disk checking utilities to the CD iso image. The DOS disk checking utilities are designed to be run from a floppy disk, but my laptop does not have a floppy drive, so CD-ROM is an alternative, if I can remaster the existing iso image file? Can I mount the DOS iso file and then add other programs to it, and then remaster the updated iso, and make a new CD-ROM to boot from with the added tools?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI wish to create several different users for different members of the family. They should all have different menus, and they should not be able to access some programs, above and beyond just the normal root blocked ones. Any personal configuration files (eg, bookmarks, saved passwords, logins for other programs (IRC, MSN, etc) should also not carry over. One of them needs to have KDE enabled as default (as it looks the most like windows). I however, would prefer to have enlightenment enabled as default for me. Is this in any way possible?
