In Power Manager I set a 5 minutes period of inactivity before turning off the monitor... But in Fedora 11, when I saw movies, the sleep mode didn't come... But in Fedora 13 (programm VLC-player), after 5 minutes, computer come into sleep mode..What do I do to configure Power Manager or another program for watching movies without permanent dragging mouse?))
View 4 RepliesEverything has been working great since January with one exception and that is the power saver mode thingy magig. Whenever I am not using the keyboard or mouse, the screen powers off after 5 minutes. When I am watching a movie. I cannot leave the mouse alone for after five minutes of watching the movie, the screen goes black. I'm not sure if the problem is my Nvidia card or Xorg or what. Any ideas how I can get a hold of this? Let me know what you need as far as diagnostic info. I actually have to leave for about 8 hours so.

Each time i start it, i slide down the lcd brightness to take the power consumption low, using the Power Manager Brightness Applet on the gnome panel and each time i restart the pc i have to repeat this over again,I'd like to make this change permanent.

For starters, watching movies causes one of my CPUs to go 100% when full screen. As you can guess watching movies doesn�t go smooth. It happens on every possible player. It doesn�t matter if I switch on or off compositing.
View 2 Replies View Relatedi would like to know if there are any good ways to disable and then reenable (the latter is key!) the screensaver so that it doesn't start when i'm watching movies with xine or when i'm watching flash things online like through hulu, videos, or so on. it's relatively simple to have a script run that will turn off the screensaver before starting a certain executable. but what about turning it back on again when the executable closes? and is there any way to detect that flash is running inside a browser window and then disable that temporarily?

I have to giggle the mouse for the screen to come back. What could be causing this and how can I fix it. My settings are disabled. Is there anything else I forgot to check? I am using Ubuntu 10.10
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm just getting started with Ubuntu 64-Bit. Basically, I have Totem Movie Player and VLC Media Player installed and every time I watch a movie in either one of them. If I tab out of them or minimize them, when I bring the media player back up the screen is black. The sound still works perfectly but I can't see the movie and I've tried several media players out and they all do the same thing. Basically I can't multitask or bring up anything else while I watch a movie or I have to restart the player because of the media screen going black.
I'm not sure if my computer specs will help but here they are:
Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid 64-Bit
Intel Xeon X3210 2.13GHz Quad
4GB DDR2-800 RAM
ATI Radeon 4870 512MB Videocard
I'm using Debian Squeeze with Fluxbox and I'm having a problem with xscreensaver. I've set to blank screen after 10 minutos of inactivity, but the problem is that when I'm watching a movie, the screen is blanked after 10 minutes too. So I have to manually kill xscreensaver before starting to see a movie, or I have to move my mouse / press keyboard every 10 minutes to activate the screen again.
I've done some search before posting and I only found something about a SMPlayer's option named "Disable screensaver", but it is already on and it has no effect preventing xscreensaver to work. Here is a screen shoot of my SMPlayer configuration window:

Apparently, xscreensaver isn't being able to recognize that another program is running. Could it be related to dbus?
PS: I had a dbus problem when I first upgraded to squeeze, my multimedia keys stoped working in banshee (whenever I clicked to play/pause/next etc, another banshee process was started), but I solved it by adding this line to my ~/.xinitrc: eval "$(dbus-launch --sh-syntax --exit-with-session)"
Is there a way to avoid sudden increases in volume while watching movies? The problem is the difference between the volume of the dialogs & that of the special effects (example: firing of a bullet ,a car crash, a lightning strike & similar). Is there a way to limit the volume to a certain level ? I tried volume normalization filter of both vlc & smplayer. But none seems effective.

when I'm traying to watch 720p and 1080p movies, MKV format. The movie is breaking all time, do I need to install any codecs or extansions, or use another application.I tried VLC player, and it is same. Well i had same problem with Ubuntu 10.10 and could't fix it.

I use Squeeze with Xfce. My problem is that recently (after the xfce updates) the xfce power manager doesnt react to the power button - it is set to suspend. I dont have gnome-power manager or anything like it running.
If i reboot the computer, the power button will work but if i suspend and resume, it doesnt work again.
The computer is built on an Asus M3N78-VM mobo (2GB RAM/Athlon3200+ single core).
acpi_listen detects the button press.
Any thoughts?
Recently when I booted up my computer I get an error at the login screen.

When I try to login in, nothing happens. I cant seem to get past the login screen.
I'm running 10/11 on a toshiba satellite. i kinda got tired of loosing stuff because i mis-timed the battery discharge, so some months ago i pulled the battery and just ran on the adapter (back ground, i don't know if it's nothing, related to, or caused the problem).
monday morning fired her up - boom got the power "gnome manager not installed correctly"message. tuesday, googled gnome then power then... you get the route, and found Fedoraforum.org, read the stuff, did the yum remove...., did the yum install.... everthing seemed cool. 2nd reboot she stopped at the "f/infinity/balloon" kinda logo.
i went to verbose startup and - all sorts of services were failing; the word deprecate(d, ing, tion) came up a lot "device full..." came up a fair bit as well. when i tried the "yum remove" approach again i got [rpmdb: write: 0x1fd48b0, 8192: No space left on device]. similarily on "yum install" same kinda stuff - deprecation, BaseExpection, deprecated..... kinda long winded. up till now (13 years)
My monitor kept powering down after 20 minutes so I installed Gnome-power-manager by yum so that I could change the settings. After the installation and every time I try to use it I get a message saying:

1) Is someone able to post their config file from a working F12 install? I believe it's /etc/dbus-1/system.d/gnome-power-manager.conf but not certain as I don't have one ;-)
2) ~/.gconf/apps/gnome-power-manager/%gconf.xml is empty - is it empty for someone with a working install?
3) how I can change the power settings without the gui - I'm googling on this point and will post the answer as and when I find it.

I am looking for a program that can organize music and movies BUT, heres the deal. What I need to do for my collection is be able just to go through the 1000s of cd's and dvd's and be able to type them in AND then once I'm finished I need it to be able to put all of them in Alphabetical order. You should know that a couple hundred are burned so they will not register inn an online database to be able to find album or actor info.

Whenever I would try to run a 3d program, Everything except the mouse would freeze and become unresponseive, so i reverted to F11. I read somewhere it was because of my GPU. Its an ATI Radeon X600. Has anyone had any trouble with this in F13?

A simple 'mplayer movie.avi' command works fine, except that it locks out the keyboard and mouse. We're using the latest mplayer and slack 13.0 with the 2.6.29.6 kernel. Using mplayer under X presents no problems, but the use of anything but the console is NOT possible now. The whole problem is figuring out what to do to regain control of the keyboard.

I have a FC11 over AMD Sempron 2400+ 512Mb RAM and Im using it as 24 hours server, but after a few hours of work it makes something like suspend (don't response to network, clock freeze, etc. but screen works) till I touch mouse or keyboard.
I think this is a configuration item, but I'd searching about pm-utils and I found how config suspend and hibernate states, but nothing about what thing order a suspend every few hours.
I'd installed gnome-power-manager, and after config it for "never suspend", only change is, maybe, a bit more time before automatic suspend.
Everytime I boot up my Eee PC which has Fedora 11 with Xfce 4.6.1, I get the error:Quote:Another power manager is already running.Once I click OK to that, I notice that the notification area isn't on my taskbar, when it was when I logged out. Ive been using linux for a few months now and every now and again i come accross a program that doesnt have a rpm package but says that it can be installed on Fedora using source. I'm familiar with build essentials and the following commands:-
tar xzvf package.tar.gz
cd package
./configure
make
make install
but from what i have read fedora uses a differnet compiler. I'm trying to install Buddi budget manager and the ./configure command doesnt work, which im guessing is because it doesnt have a configure file? Can anyone confirm how to compile from source and whether there are any tutorials specific to fedora.
Alternative to Internet Download Manager (IDM) to download movies from any website.Ok, so one of the cool things about IDM was that i was able to download movies from ..... and other sites that have video clips on their site, but now that i have switch all my computers over to ubuntu linux, i now need an alternative to this problem because IDM will not work with the firefox on ubuntu linux.So my question is, do you guys know of an alternative software for downloading movies from any site such as ..... and other sites?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a bit of a problem w/ the windowing UI when I drag any window left, the display gets messed up (see attached screen shot). It doesn't matter what the program is, even happens in explorer. I've done some searching of the Internetz and this form and all I could find was this bug, that doesn't have any updates on it:
Does anyone know of a fix for this? I can make the lines go away by triggoring a repaint (by either dragging another window on top of this one or minimizing and maximizing the problem window, but it's still a bit annoying.I'm running Fedora 14 and have ran all of the updates it prompted me to run.
I run a HTPC which I recently upgraded 11.2 -> 11.3.Most things work fine but I've got an oddity. After the TV is shut down and restored the mouse cursor is "frozen":The old mouse image stays where it isHowever, the mouse IS active, in that you can (blindly) move the mouse, see it mouse-over widgets, and activate them - there's just no visible cursor where the hotspot is.Hardware is ATI chipset (can't remember which, offhand, but it's only a year or two old), running AMD driver, with a HDMI link to the TV.
