I am using fc.11 and loving it. i want to change login window but like fc.10, it is also without a separate tool to do this. i searched and found something very similar here:[url]i.e. appearance>background>select image>make default>root password but it changes my background only, login window is that old one.
View 9 RepliesJust been looking at an 11.04 bootable CD, where I was reminded of the continued existence of xfce. "Must try that again!" I thought, and installed it through the Software Centre on my 10.04 laptop. I washoping/expecting that xfce would then become an option in the Sessions pulldown at log-on, but no such luck. What should I be doing? It is not my intention to switch to xubuntu, just to take another look at an alternative window manager.

I know that the user also can set the wallpaper without running that . But didn't found any other way .
I tried to use SELinux to it and I'm stuck at writing a own policy.
According to SELinux, it prevents everything ., but as i have mapped the user to a SElinux user ,even though he can use administrative tasks , he can run the appearance window. that means he has got the permission from a different policy , Currently I'm stuck at this place.
Suitable way to prevent the wallpaper being changed by the normal users.
I looked at Google and only thing that I can find is change to KDM, just change the back ground or GDM is just in a rewrite just wait. How to change the GDM themes with standard themes at gnome-look.

Install Fedora 12 from livecd on a widescreen monitor:
- Using Nvidia 96xx drivers for my Gforce2 MX
Everything runs fine at this point. Connect old 17" flatscreen and no network: Login freezes for about a minute after username selection, no password prompt, no mouse movement, no keyboard response, after timeout I return to login screen before username selection .. and can repeat this or.. At that point (or before that point) I can ctrl+alt F2 to 'terminal' screen, login works fine.
init 3, login as root
startx
Works fine then, resolution is %^# tho, and cant change it at that point due to errors I get. I'm convinced the problem has nothing to do with my X configuration tbh. Booting from the LiveCD on this configuration works fine. I am tempted to think it has something to do with my GDM, but as my knowledge is limited, I cant figure it out. If I reconnect the widescreen, it all works fine ...
Fedora 15, fresh install.I changed the wallpaper from default to a solid colour. After switching between gradient to colour the system crashed logged me out and upon logging in it simply runs endlessly accessing my harddisk but never actually loading the desktop.I can kill X and reboot, but it's the same problem waiting for me on restart. I really don't want to re-install or delete users (to put it in context, I just spent 3 days trying to install Fedora because Anaconda doesn't know how to install GRUB correctly).

I have a problem with my Fedora 14, only on Fedora 15. Been out of my home for a week, when I arrived home and turned the PC on first thing I made was the update, as usual. But when I reboot or shutdown the PC and when I go to do login, the Fedora get's stuck and doesn't show me the login window to insert my login. Made a clean install and it worked fine, until I made the last updates and it became again, stuck before the login window appears. Is there any update making this? What could be? It must be some update, because when I made the clean install it worked fine, and with the first update also worked fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 on my laptop (Dell Studio model). I have installed fedora 12 onto my machine in the unallocated space, the installation went smoothly. If I login to the fedora directly then every thing works fine. but if I login to Window 7 and again try to re-login into fedora 12 after shutting down the winows 7 then the booting screen will become black (almost invisible) even though I can be able to login and can go to the desktop (which is also very least visible) if i click on suspend and then click on the power button then the screen will become properly visible.

View 2 Replies View Related have been trying to figure out the .basrhc files and decided to change some of the permission of those files. The outcome is that, when i restarted the computer, i try to log in as a user but once i typed the name and login only a black screen can be seen, and can not do anything. I restart the computer and try to log in as a root, the same thing.
Next time I restarted the computer and press ctrl+spack+backspace, and for less than 2 seconds i am shown the console windows and then automaticaly comes back to the X windows.It seems that console is crashing too. I am using fedora core 8 and i ve got information that i would not like to loose.
I have used Ubuntu since 7-4; I now have 10.4. However, in the last week I have been taken to the login screen three times. This could be potentially calamitous. Ctrl+Alt +Backspace have by default been disable since 9-4. There is no way I am pressing atl+Prtscr +K. I wonder if there is a new zap command in 10.4, and if so, how to disable it. I have never found the need to go back back to the login window. I am generally using the command line when doing this.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am running Debian Jessie with Gnome 3.14.2 on a Macbook Pro 15" with retina display. My resolution is currently set to 2880:1800 and any time I try to lower it, the whole screen goes to black (even if I change it to something in the 16:10 ratio) and I just have to keep force restarting when doing that. I want to lower it because a lot of stuff is really small. Certain aspects of windows in programs are so small, and in order to properly view stuff on my web browser I have to increase the magnification to around 250% for it to be reasonable.
Some things seem normally sized in the windows, and thus make things awkward on the screen, especially in chrome. Is there a way to fix this without having to change my resolution and/or font sizes? Making font sizes bigger on the gnome tweak tool makes things look a bit more awkward because it squeezes the text into small spaces. I would rather keep a higher resolution for a better picture, and changing it seems to mess things up. Here is what my browser looks like (without magnifying). Notice how the font size in the bookmark bar is disproportionately large compared to the buttons in the top right to close/max/min the window.
And this problem isn't just in the browser, but for example, in matlab everything is extremely tiny. I want to make everything larger, not just the text...
