Just wanting to know if there is a program or script or something I can use that will automatically copy all my files from a flashdrive, to a predetermined share, whenever that flashdrive is plugged into the server.

I was thinking of running a bash script but I've run into a few snags figuring out the correct way to do it. Mainly due to the fact that the cd drive is mounted in a different folder in /media each time I insert a new diskAlso, the mounting and unmounting process causes it's own problems, but I think that could be covered by a for loop that checks /mtab every few seconds or so.

The file is compatible with my ps3 no question about that, it works fine when i re-downloaded it and copied the file to the same flashdrive using xp.

In looking further I found Bcd, which from a predefined XML file creates an iso, it looks easier to use but I do not know if I can do exactly what I want.A bootable CD that installs linux automatically with rpm added.
I found other software that can match my search as "KickStart" but made for RedHat and rather poor in tutorial, there is nothing familiar in the field. "Fully Automatic Installation" [URL] which at first might work with Fedora and others.

I installed them succesffuly. but when i compile the code it is showing number of errors. actually i hav to copy the libnewt.so file into /usr/lib folder. when i copy tat file it is displaying error as permission denied.
how to copy that file in to that folder. and tell me the stteps to install newt on fdora core 9.

I had Fedora 7 and Windows-XP dual operating system. Few weeks ago, there was GRUB error. Now I want to install Fedora 14, but before it I want to back up all data in one external hard drive. I used Fedora 13 live-CD I could access all the drive formatted as NTFS, but I couldn't access /home and the drive formatted (ext2) and owned by the user-name.
Please, inform if there is any idea to copy my files that remains in the home folder. (I can see them but copying is prevented)

I have a question - should I decide to ditch Ubuntu for Fedora I will want to install but keep my Home folder.Normally whenever I've reinstalled Ubuntu I've installed over top of my existing installation. I have 3 partitions:
1 - Root
2 - Swap
3 - Home
When I reinstall I normally format root and swap but keep home and choose my usual user name. hen I boot up after install all my settings for all my apps are retained.
If I install Fedora this way (keeping Home while formatting Root and Swap) will I get the same results?

Ive created a bootable RHEL4 USB flashdrive so that I can do my installs from rather than using CDDVD's. The USB key boots fine to the point where it asks me to select a drive that contains the ISO images, but it doesn't show me the USB drive to select, only my 2 hard drives sda1 and sdb.
We currently use HP xw9400's with the following spec as shown in dmidecode:

I know that the xw9400's have the nvidia mcp55 pro chip on the motherboard that handles USB, keyboard, mouse and other peripheral traffic, so am wondering if this could be what the problem is? Like there may some code that i need to tell the machine to use this or something?
How can I automate the following: When I insert a flash drive into any of the available USB ports, some kind of script or software, must automatically mount it, delete everything off the flash drive, copy an audio file back to it and then automatically unmount the USB.Maybe I should setup some kind of Kiosk to use the above functionality - would that be easy?

With this I ensure that a newly created file or folder inside that folder will adopt the SGUID. The problem is that if I copy files into that folder, these copied files don't adopt the SGUID. So I have to execute constantly the command: chgrp -R thegroup nameofthefolder everytime I copy or uncompress something into that folder. Is there any way to achieve this (force the SGUID even in copy and uncompress commands) automatically?

Unfortunately, I can't find any tutorials on using gimp batch. Anyone know any such tutorials (Or better yet, what my script needs to be)

I need to setup a network scanner which will scan to a folder via the network onto an Ubuntu pc. When the file is scanned I need the Ubuntu pc to automatically print the file to the default printer and then deletes the scanned file.
I haven't been using Ubuntu very long and was not sure how to achieve this. I was wondering if perhaps I should write a script, after learning how to, that checks the folder for any files and then prints them. Once printed it then deletes the files. Would I need to have this script running via a scheduler that runs the script every second? Or is there another way to achieve this?
I installed Kubuntu 9.1 and then I downloaded Xampp of Linux to the desktop, however I have to extract it to /Opt/lampp. And that's the problem. I don't seem to have access or permissions to ?? I tried right-click | properties | permissions but the fields are greyed-out to make any changes.I am logged-in using the same user id/password I created when installing K9.1.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm new to Ubuntu (at least on server distributions). I used debian versions for a long time and thought, to try ubuntu LTS 10.0.4, because of the long time support cycle. I had problems, to install this distribution on a x86 platform (used with ASUS P4B533-v), because of kernel panic after installation. So I used a trick to get it running. I installed Ubuntu LTS 8.04 and compiled a kernel 2.6.34 and made a distupgrade. All went o.k. and is now running as a productive system.
My question now belongs to the used pid folder /var/run. I'm using some self compiled programs and had to create a separatly folder (e.g. /var/run/stunnel). My problem is, after rebooting the system, the folder is deleted automatically! Never saw this issue on other distributions. Is there any reason why? Of course, I can write a section in my init script, searching for existing folder and if not, creating it ...
