Fedora ::automatically Add New Kernels To Grub ?

I'm sure there is a thread on this somewhere, but after looking though the first 100+ search results, I can't seem to find it.
After a kernel update today, I noticed that new kernels are not being added to my grub menu.lst (so consequently, I was running an older kernel).
Any obvious reason why this would happen (kernels being installed normally, with yum update)? I thought the whole process was supposed to be automagic.
Would it have anything to do with the fact that I just kept my F11 menu.lst, and added a F12 kernel to it when I installed F12 (to a separate partition), then eventually (today, finally) removed the f11 kernels from it?

I am having trouble getting grub to automatically boot into ubuntu server. When I turn on my server the grub menu shows up and shows me the choices. They all work fine except that grub wont automatically select one. This wouldn't be too much of a problem but this is a headless server and I can't boot into ubuntu without a keyboard. I tried looking through the grub 2 documentation but nothing seemed to work when I edited the conf file.

I've been using Ubuntu for more than a year (just basic simple stuff like surfing the net or the occasional document) and in the last months I've been running into the following problem.I've been updating regularly to the latest Kernels the last one should be 2.6.32-25. However at start up Grub loads only 2.6.31-19 and below and there's no mentioning of 2.6.32 in grub.cfg while it is present in menu.lst. I tried to update grub with no success.

I have GRUB to allow me to boot windows and Ubuntu, i recently noticed that my list of kernels is getting clogged up with all the updates. So i went online to try and find out how to get rid of the unwanted partitions and also how to add new ones - i am going to attempt to hackintosh, and will need to know how to add kernels. What i found out was; the boot menu in GRUB had a file that is supposed to be called 'menu.lst' (Lst not ist), and that all i needed to do was edit this, that it wouldn't delete the kernels, but that i don't need to, i only need to add and remove links to kernels on the GRUB menu. The problem is that after looking, i don't have that menu.lst file, i have a file containing the image files for 'memtest', but not for my GRUB. I am using 10.04, i don't know what version of GRUB im using but i'm using whichever one comes with 10.04. Could someone please point me in the direction of the files i need to edit or what i need to do to add and remove kernels?

I'm trying to automatically remove some of the old GRUB entries that pile up after a few updates and just want to leave live 2 or 3 there along with my Win7 entry. I was looking and saw that there is a utility for Ubuntu but I couldn't find anything for Fedora.

I recently installed ubuntu 9.10 and a day later updated with all the suggested security and recommended updates. Now I notice that in my Grub there are two different kernel versions listed. Are they both necessary? Can I / should I get rid of the older one, and if so, how?
I ask because after all these updates I notice my computer runs much slower, so I don't want it overloaded with unnecessary software.

How do I know which one I should use from the choice of 3 for the current kernelAnd if I understand which one to use, can I delete the others from the same imageAlso, in start-up manager I have choice of 4 from the drop down list?

After I messed up badly with my netbook I have to reinstalll the OS, it is a government property netbook that came up with Edubuntu 7.04 insalled on it. I shouldn't mess with the filesystem but I did and now I have to install Edubuntu from the beginning, but I must be sure that everything will just like I have done no change, so I am afraid that I can make some mistakes at this pointThe first thing that I want to know is: Why there are multiple kernels listed at the GRUB (v 1.5)...this is the full list:

I ran grub-customiser to set default kernel, and saw the GFX mode setting, thinking "Hey, my monitor is native at 1440x900! I'll use that!" ...Didn't think about how the GFX card isn't initialized at that point, so my res is limited to 640x480... So the first problem was a system hang at the grub menu, with "Input Not Supported" displayed on the monitor.I changed the GFX mode back, and ran update-grub, and with a grin on my face, I rebooted. The grin went away fast, when I saw that none of the kernels showed in the grub menu, and I have only the two memtest entries. It appears that, while all the files are still intact, grub is not seeing the kernels. I had an idle partition of about 13 GB on hand, so after trying all sorts of things, I did a clean install on the little 13 GB partition. Still no dice, after doing an apt-get purge grub etc etc etc on my main Ubuntu partition, to make sure that the new grub was running. I still have only memtest, even though I can open the /boot directory and see the kernel files. I tried going into the grub command line and starting manually, but tab-complete does not suggest any of the kernel files, and tells me that the files do not exist, if I type in their full names.

There is a problem (I can see) with F14 install.
In the past the grub was installed during install (since Fedora 6).
Now choosing an install disk "sdb" (install target
drive) requests a drive to be chosen for
bootloader, but if the alternate drive sda is
chosen (this case the XP drive), it is formatted.
I have gone though install many times to see what I missed.
This once worked beautifully. What did I miss?
I now have XP and Fedora 14 installed but I cannot reach Fedora 14.
I had to do a fixmbr to get to XP
Since I cannot reach F14, I cannot get to grub2 and have to use .97

I have Ubuntu 8.04 (32-bits) installed on /dev/sda and Ubuntu 10.04 (64-bits) installed on /dev/sdc (this is an update from 8.04 64-bits originally installed on /dev/sdc). There is a grub on each of these two disks. Both are the old grub (prior to version 2). Here is the top kernel listing from /dev/sda:

I followed the Grub 2 Basics steps to remove Grub 2 kernel listings.
However I'm stuck with 3 older versions that was completely_removed from Synaptic (kernel/headers/generic), but remain in grub.cfg.

I have this strange problem on ubuntu 10.04 64 bit, that when running update-grub, it will only put the oldest kernel into the grub menu, despite the fact that I have recent kernels around as well.
in particular:

I have a grub menu with a ton of old kernel entries that I want to delete. I've scoured this forum, and haven't found anything that works. I've tried:

I have used CentOS for a while and have never run into this issue. I searched all over and didn't see a similar issue anywhere, I did an install of CentOS as a server (no GUI) with only the base. Partition is /boot ext3, size of 100MB. The rest of the drive is partitioned as / with ext3. This is being done on a CompactFlash card of 32GB in size. The BIOS sees it as an IDE drive.
When the install completes and the system reboots, the grub stops at the grub> prompt. There is no menu for OS options. If I do the following commands:
grub>root (hd0,0)
grub>kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.18-194.el5 root=LABEL=/
grub>initrd /initrd-2.6.18-194.el5.img
grub>boot

I have a fairly aged Pentium 4, RAID, desktop computer with Fed 11. I started off with the 686 PAE kernel and update it whenever the update software tells me to. Some time ago I downloaded an NVidia driver which said it needed the 586 kernel so I installed that as well.I then uninstalled the NVidia driver as it caused some minorish problems without any improvement to the graphics. The bottom line is I now have the last three 686 kernels and the last three 586 kernels, which I'm pretty sure I don't need. The machine seems to run fine whichever I use with no discerable differences.My questions are, what is the difference between the two types, which should I actually use and how do I get rid of the other. It would at the very least reduce bandwidth use when updating.

My MythTV system is running under F12. It is in "appliance mode;" all configured and happily doing the PVR thing without a pressing need for upgrades.However, there is a feature in the upcoming 2.6.32 kernel that I'd like to take advantage of; internal support for a certain capture card.
I see 2.6.32 mentioned as part of the F13 release. My question is, will it also be available for F12 . . . maybe sooner than the F13 release?Another way to put this is: How wedded are Fx releases and kernel releases? Is a major kernel goalpost like 2.6.32 the reason why Fx releases are made?

operating system : fedora 15 kernel 2.6.38.8-32.fc15.x86_64 bugs : when updated with the latest update it always log into the fallback, i read somewhere that the nvidia driver version 275.09.07 does not work correctly with gnome shell so i did reinstall it and it fix the log in issue but now it gives me a screen with lots of bad mixed color after returning back from suspend. kernel 2.6.38.8-35.fc15.x86_64
bugs : it gives me this error at boot time "alg: skcipher: Failed to load transform for ecb-aes-aesni: -2" and this message does not save at boot.log anyone have any idea how to fix those issue

I have 3 kernels installed. When I look at my installed kernels with yumex or package kit all I see is the latest kernel. rpm -qa lists them and I was able to remove the oldest using rpm -e.Is this some new feature of YUMEX and package kit to only show the latest version installed?

I'm unable to boot my box since the first 2.6.34 kernel arrived.I hoped the second will fix the problem but it didn't.The display just enters in the power save mode after a second and that's it.The system boots fine with the 2.6.33.8-149.fc13.i686 kernel.The lspci result is:

I'm running FC 13. I believe that the base install is kernel 2.6.33.6-147.x86_64. That is the last version of the kernel that I have installed that includes an initramfs file. Neither 2.6.34.7-56 nor 2.6.34.8-68 installed an initramfs file. Since my root volume is in LVM, I can't boot with those kernels. I saw in another post that doing a "yum install kernel" would install the missing files. I tried that and it tells me that kernel-2.6.34.8-68.fc13.x86_64 is already installed and latest version.
I ultimately want to upgrade to FC 15 because I've got a new nVidia video card and need driver 270.41.06 for fc15. My fear is that if I upgrade I might not get the initramfs files in the new versions of FC and end up with an unusable system. Is there a way to add the initramfs files for the newer kernels and/or will I have the files after an upgrade?

I can't even begin to type how angry I am. (mainly at my inability to do something for myself) I tried to cleanup Grub 2. I heard Start-up Manager was the safe option. I installed it from Synaptic opened it up, it didn't offer me any way to cleanup my boot menu so I closed and uninstalled it. What I do remember is it has a default OS option. I dual boot with Win 7 (for school and work). When I restart my computer it now goes automatically to Ubuntu. I don't even get the option of choosing.
I've tried several guides, lost and recovered grub 2, and now I'm stuck with the same problem 2 hours later. This is the one I thought had the best chance of working, but no luck[URL]..

Starting with kernels 2.6.29.x and above (which includes 2.6.30.x and 2.6.31.x),whether obtained from "kernel.org" of from the "FC11 repository", none of theseresume properly after putting the computer to sleep (suspend)... in my case, via"pm-suspend".When I press the "On" button, I hear the fan, but get no video. And the fan neverreturns to the normal resumed, slower speed -- which it normally does after aroper resume.Eventually I have to issue "Ctrl + Alt + Delete" to reboot. So the computeris resumed to some degree (to have been able to accept that sequence), butnot all the way - no video (and who knows what else)Any ideas -- I've searched high and low. Are there new kernel parametersI have to be aware of when I do a "make oldconfig", and go from there?
