Fedora :: Yum Repository Broken For 12 X64 On Updates?
Mar 11, 2010
I just re-installed on a third computer Fedora 12 from the DVD iso that has been used on many machines. But in the past 3 days I am getting the following message. This is on 2 different downloads of the iso also. It hasn't ever happened to me in the past.
yum is completely broken. I cannot install or update any software. yum is always throwing:
Code: Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit Could not retrieve mirrorlist http://mirrors.rpmfusion.org/mirrorlist?repo=free-fedora-12&arch=x86_64 error was 14: PYCURL ERROR 7 - "" Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: rpmfusion-free. Please verify its path and try again I have tried globally to disable the gpg check as stated in other threads. I have no proxies or such in yum.conf or in my bashrc. If I manually click on the link it will resolve in firefox so I am sure it is not my net connection per se, it seems yum or curl is adding a : to the end of the url thats why it wont resolve properly.
I have done a yum clean all , which didnt really help either. reinstalling the rpmfusion repos isnt an option either as I start getting curl errors in the terminal. I am really at a loss here and am completely out of ideas as I cant install any updates or software , at first I thought the repositories were having problems with the holidays but this has been going on for 4 days now. /var/log/messages isnt showing anything either.
I have suffered the same fate as many who have yum updated to the latest NetworkManager; "The system network services are not compatible with this version."Could this faulty package then be removed from the repos so that many others do not suffer the same fate
I am recently installed Fedora User (From a Live USB) I tried to install the updates that are detected here in my computer, but because a missing repository it don't installs.
Yum is unable to access any packages in the F15 updates repository. When I manually download and browse the repo filename list (http://ftp.jaist.ac.jp/pub/Linux/Fed...ateinfo.xml.gz) it seems that the files are listed as being available from the Fedora *5* address, which is obviously incorrect. This issue seems to have been going on for a few weeks now.
I just installed RPMFusion free and non-free, and now update manager is telling me that it needs to install updates "RPM Fusion (free) Repository Configuration" and "RPM Fusion (non-free) Repository Configuration". When I try to install these I get a message asking 'Do you trust the source of the packages?" and i click 'Yes", it then asks for a password for authentication, and then I get message saying "Could not update packages. Failed to process request" and under more details:
failed to install signature: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py", line 2926, in install_signature self.yumbase.getKeyForPackage(pkg, askcb = lambda x, y, z: True) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum/__init__.py", line 4309, in getKeyForPackage result = ts.pgpImportPubkey(misc.procgpgkey(info['raw_key'])) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/rpmUtils/transaction.py", line 59, in __getattr__ return self.getMethod(attr) File "/usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/rpmUtils/transaction.py", line 69, in getMethod return getattr(self.ts, method) AttributeError: 'NoneType' object has no attribute 'pgpImportPubkey'
i am using ubuntu before, i dont have problem to backup my updates or my repository by using APTONCD, i switched now to fedora to give it a try. so far its good, my question now is how can i backup my repo, or any similar software like APTONCD.
I just did a clean install of OpenSuSE 11.0 and performed all the available updates as well. After rebooting when I try to SSH into my SuSE workstation I get:
PuTTY Fatal Error Server unexpectedly closed network connection
I don't see anything relevant in /var/log/messages. I've tried rebooting and restarting the SSHD service.
As this link advises [URL]my yum will not work now because of a change in the versioning scheme. How do I manually update my metadata so that I can start getting updates again, this is on CentOS 5.3.
There's a problem with the latest updates. First I allowed the 32-bit version to update under VirtualBox, and now cannot boot with the new kernel. The old kernel works, so it's not really a problem. BUT:
Then, I allowed update on the real desktop, and now the network disappeared. sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart shows a very short message about eth0=eth0 and does nothing.(I cannot copy&paste, because the network is not working under Ubuntu. Now I'm under Windows, the network works (I can post).) Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet 10/100/1000Base-T Controller PCI bus 2, dev 0, func 0
I was wondering on the updater service slowly over time installing packages overtop packman packages.
For example, some multimedia guides mention to switch all packages to a certain repository like packman. At some point afterwards system updates will overwrite these.
I don't fully understand how updates work, however, is it needed or possible to set a rule for which repos are used as a reference for system updates?
Today, shortly after booting my OpenSUSE 11.3 I got this popup. [URL]. I guess it was caused by the Updater Applet when checking the repos for new updates. But what does it mean? Why do I get this now and not when adding the repo. It seems to belong to the filesystems repo and I have indeed added that some time ago (in order to install davfs2). I'm not sure what it means to accept a signature.
Normally with public key infrastructure, you need to accept other's public keys or certificates containing their public keys. And before doing so you need to verify the fingerprint, otherwise the whole procedure is useless, because it might be a fake certificate / man in the middle talking to you. Once you have accepted (trusted) the public key (or a certificate containing it), the system will check signatures for you.
So the question "do you want accept this signature" sounds weird to me. In openSUSE repos I have come across fingerprints many times before. But whenever I have searched google in order to verify the fingerprint I have not received any useful hit. I would have expected that valid keys and their fingerprints are listed on some web site. It appears there are three instances of package signing keys ... but there has not been any answer.
I installed Fedora 12 and it said 500 software updates available. When I tried to install them I got this error message:
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main() File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3122, in main backend.dispatcher(sys.argv[1:]) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 710, in dispatcher self.dispatch_command(args[0], args[1:]) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 657, in dispatch_command self.update_packages(only_trusted, package_ids) File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 1948, in update_packages signed = self._is_package_repo_signed(pkg) File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 1437, in _is_package_repo_signed repo = self.yumbase.repos.getRepo(pkg.repoid) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/yum/repos.py, line 121, in getRepo 'Error getting repository data for $s, repository not found' $ (repoid)
I am running Squeeze AMD64 and install updates every couple of days. I installed the latest batch yesterday and got a "restart system" message, so rebooted. The usual messages scrolled past for a while, then the screen went blank, and that was it. I tried a couple of times with same result. I booted into maintenance mode to try to find the cause of the problem. Looking at /var/log/messages there is some strange activity going on. Unfortunately I can't easily paste the relevant portion of the file into this posting as the network isn't working (I am posting this from a laptop), but roughly what I am seeing is this:
PGD <some stuff> CPU 0 Modules linked in: <long list of modules> Pid, 1841, comm: Xorg Not Tainted <some stuff> <about 20 lines of assorted values> --[end trace <long hex number>]
and this repeats several times (presumably stopping when I hit the reset button). Sometimes it's CPU 0 and sometimes CPU 1, it mostly involves Xorg in Pid line, and apart from the first instance mostly reports Xorg Tainted.
I could just reinstall but would rather repair as it would be both quicker and more instructive.
After I installed Lucid, everything was fine than I went ahaed and did the customary updates after the install but and when I rebooted, my top panel got messed up. Basically nothing on the right hand is working. It either appears as doubled and it doesn't appear at all. I've attached a screenshot so that you can see what I'm talking about.
After recently installing Linux Mint 10 I have tried to install the updates it says and everytime it tells me I have to fix broken packages first. I have been into something that tells me there is no broken packages. What can I do?
When I attempt to refresh my zypper repositories, I get messages like:
Repository 'gwdg_suse11.1' is invalid. File /var/tmp/TmpFile.vRNflE doesn't contain public key data
I've asked for help (which has been freely given) on these forums before, but nothing has worked, and I've been stuck with this error for many months now. In effect, my system is effectively non-upgradable.
However, I would like to upgrade to 11.2. Is there an upgrade CD, or should I just download the 11.2 DVD (at nearly 5GB) and choose the "upgrade" option from it?
I read a few threads about updating packages in opensuse 11.3, and about switching to a repository, but I still don't understand a few things. On earlier versions of opensuse I was used to set the repository priorities in an order that was convenient for me, and when I did an update, the vendor changed if needed. Now, vendor change is not allowed by default, and I don't understand the right way to handle repositories, and updates. I found out that in Software Managment there is an option to allow vendor change, but I'm not sure that's the right way.
If I have Redhat 5 Enterprise workstation, how can I configure it to point to Centos 5 so I can receive updates and fixes through Centos rather than paying for Redhat support ? I heard this can be done, but wasn't sure what the steps are in terms of configuring Redhat
I once had rock solid systems running opensuse. The hardware hasn't changed, but the system certainly has. The last time I could describe my systems as rock solid, was before the more or less forced move to KDE4. They've been anything but solid since, and it seems the more updates, the more things that get broken. I have two systems involved (a third is my server, so far unaffected). I have a desktop system that I built (4 years ago) on an Asus motherboard using an Nvidia chipset. The second is a laptop, a Lenovo T500 with both ATI and Intel graphics.
First, the upgrade to 11.4 broke the ATI video on the laptop. Tried everything, the proprietary ATI driver as well as the radeon driver. Learned online about adding the 'nomodeset' option, which got the video to work...if I could put up with random freezes, jerky video, and a desktop that refreshed in waves. Broken. Period. Gave up, switched the system one last time to the Intel graphics and never looked back. The ATI graphics on that laptop is unusable. Fortunately, I had the option of Intel or the laptop would still be unusable to me.
On the other hand, the upgrade to 11.4 on my desktop system running nvidia graphics went without a hitch. I was even pondering the idea of seeing if I could swap out the ATI graphics on the laptop for an Nvidia board. Then came this weekend's updates, which broke the Nvidia drivers. Yes, it would still boot up to a desktop, but I had a black desktop background and all of the configuration windows I opened came up completely black. Spent a couple of hours removing/reinstalling drivers. Uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and reinstalled.
Switched to the open source drivers. After numerous attempts, with the system unable to boot to X at all at points, I finally achieved an apparently functioning system with the nouveau driver. If the objective of the developers involved is to drive people away from linux and/or render opensuse unusable, well, they are doing a wonderful job. If I were not the technically inclined individual I am, I would have had no choice with either of these cases but to abandon the operating system for something else. It's ridiculous and counterproductive.
I run XBMC 10.1 (packman version) on openSUSE 11.4 x86_64. After a normal package update (zypper up) last weekend, I can't play none of my DVD folders (VIDEO_TS structure) anymore. When selecting a movie to play nothing happens (XBMC log file message "WARNING: could not find codec parameters for /path_to_movie/VIDEO_TS/VIDEO_TS.IFO"). AVIs still play fine. I reproduced the problem on my laptop too: After the following updates the problem occurs:
I have Fedora 13 in a VPS. I cannot work with yum. I got this error: [Errno 256] No more mirrors to try # yum list Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. verify its path and try again.
Error Type: <class 'yum.Errors.RepoError'> Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in <module> main() File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3122, in main code....
It mentioned bug report but I don't know where that is. I'll try later.
Today I installed Fedora12 from the DVD, so this is my first contact with all of you. The last years I ran very well with gentoo, but the time for system maintenance got to big the last few times I updated the system, so I decided to change and here am I. The Problem: My system is newly installed from the DVD and I was trying to run the first update, but got the following errormassage by KPackageKit:
Code: Error Type: Error Value: Error getting repository data for installed, repository not found File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3125, in main() File : /usr/share/PackageKit/helpers/yum/yumBackend.py, line 3122, in main backend.dispatcher(sys.argv[1:]) File : /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/packagekit/backend.py, line 710, in dispatcher self.dispatch_command(args[0], args[1:])
[Code]...
It occured after informing me about the amount of packages that need to be updated and a message about some dependencies that have to be newly installed. At the moment I'm a bit lost about what to do. Also I realy don't know which system-information would be useful - let me know and I will answer.
I installed Fedora 13 in my new system from DVD image. Now I want to update all repositories. I coul'nt update. error message as below: Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. verify its path and try again
