Fedora :: Wrap Icon Label Text In Overview?

Jul 4, 2011

how to wrap the text in the overview for the icons I tell you I love opensource. Straight from some of the guys who wrote gnome shell, and yes the reason it was left out by default is because it has some quirks. Yes it wraps text - however if you have long words - like this_file_has_no_spaces then it will overflow into the icon on either side of it. But most application names have spaces. The obvious place you will see this happening is in recent items where that displays system files etc. The other issue is that when you hover/highlight an icon it will only highlight the first line of text. That's pretty much it and with a few lines of code then you can increase the font size of applications and don't have to worry about names getting cut off

Ubuntu :: Gedit Does Text-wrap To The Margin?

Aug 25, 2010

I hope I am pasting this in the correct place. I am a big fan of minimalist software- and Gedit is an excellent program. Now I am not a a programmer or anything, but I do like to write, and Gedit seems very well suited towards what I want. A simple word-bashing-out program.

But my problem is that it does text-wrap to the margin. Now I don't particularly want to do this manually, and the option in the preferences menu doesn't seem to work.

General :: Cannot Disable Word Wrap For All Text Files

Nov 13, 2010

I'm not a newbie to Linux, but I'm a newbie to LQ. I've searched the internet for an answer to an issue I'm having with JOE, to no avail. For my editing purposes, I HATE word wrap. I've read the man page extensively and nothing I try works.

To disable word wrap, it says, simply edit the joerc file and place --wordrap in the first column. Done. It works for .pl, and it works for .c (seems to be built in for C). Bottom line, I cannot disable word wrap for all text files, or at least the ones I want to edit. Has anyone solved this?

Fedora :: Add A Folder To The Overview For Quick Search?

Jun 4, 2011

Assume that I've got a folder called "Stuffs". So in fedora 15 you don't have a desktop folder, I mean you can't use it like we were used to. Even if you activate the option that allows you to use the "desktop", it is very uncomfortable because you can't minimize windows quickly. So my question is: Is there a way of put a "Link" in the overview, so I can get in to the overview and write "Stuffs" in the search bar and get my "Stuffs" folder open ?

Fedora :: Icon Text Font Too Small In Activities?

May 30, 2011

I am using a 17" VGA monitor with 1024x768 resolution. With some tweaking, I'm pretty satisfied with GNOME Shell and its look. The only exception is the font of the text below the icons in Activities. On my monitor with this resolution, the text is just too small. As far as I know, it's the smallest text anywhere in the GUI. This is kind of an accessibility issue for me, since I do have a sight problem

Ubuntu :: Missing Icon In Unity Launcher "Label Empty"?

May 11, 2011

I just upgraded to Natty 11.04 and am getting used to the Unity Launcher. I was trying to add a terminal to the launcher and I'm not sure what I did but now if I copy the icon from nautilus "/usr/share/applications" over to the launcher it creates a blank space like the icon is missing but if you scroll over it and right click you see Label Empty / Keep in Launcher.

The weird thing is that if I create a link to terminal in /usr/share/applications and drag the link over to the launcher it appears as it should.

Server :: Get Summary Overview Of All The Md-devices At Once With Mdadm

May 13, 2010

I'm performing some experiments on a box with 5x36,4G disks. Right now I have partitioned all the drives in chunks of 1G, and put them together 3 by 3 in raid5. (Yeah, there's a lot of md-devices..). 'mdadm --query' and 'mdadm --detail' give summary/detailed information about the md's, on condition that I specify the device.

My question is if there would be a way to have a summary overview of all the md-devices at once. I've gone through the manual, but haven't found anything which resembles a useful command.

1. How do I change the icon text for applications?

Ubuntu :: Text Editor Launcher Icon?

May 19, 2011

Ubuntu 11.04.Dragging the Text Editor launcher into the Unity dock will create a blank space with a blank label which launches Text Editor. How can I choose an icon for it?Also, how can I make it so middle clicking on the icon (or other ways of opening multiple instances) will open more instances of Text Editor instead of doing exactly nothing (does nothing if Text Editor is already open, otherwise it opens "Untitled Document 1")?it doesn't "launch text editor" per se. instead it opens "Untitled Document 1". maybe this is why you can't middle click it to open multiple instances?

Ubuntu :: Icon And Text Too Small @ 1920x1080?

May 26, 2011

I just bought a new laptop with 1920x1080 resolution. I installed Ubuntu 11.04 via "wubi" just now, however everything in ubuntu is too small to keep my eye comfortable. I searched the web and forum and tried to enlarge those, but the solution was about Ubuntu front and folder icon only (change in "appreance", and "edit->preference"). The front and icon are still small in other applications, such as Google chrome, firefox. Note: the change of front size in chrome and firefox only changes those on the page, but not page background, not the size in tab and anything else.

Debian :: Text / Icon / Window Sizing And Changing Resolution?

Feb 17, 2015

I am running Debian Jessie with Gnome 3.14.2 on a Macbook Pro 15" with retina display. My resolution is currently set to 2880:1800 and any time I try to lower it, the whole screen goes to black (even if I change it to something in the 16:10 ratio) and I just have to keep force restarting when doing that. I want to lower it because a lot of stuff is really small. Certain aspects of windows in programs are so small, and in order to properly view stuff on my web browser I have to increase the magnification to around 250% for it to be reasonable.

Some things seem normally sized in the windows, and thus make things awkward on the screen, especially in chrome. Is there a way to fix this without having to change my resolution and/or font sizes? Making font sizes bigger on the gnome tweak tool makes things look a bit more awkward because it squeezes the text into small spaces. I would rather keep a higher resolution for a better picture, and changing it seems to mess things up. Here is what my browser looks like (without magnifying). Notice how the font size in the bookmark bar is disproportionately large compared to the buttons in the top right to close/max/min the window.

And this problem isn't just in the browser, but for example, in matlab everything is extremely tiny. I want to make everything larger, not just the text...

Red Hat / Fedora :: Label Being Displayed Differently In KDE/Gnome

Mar 23, 2010

So I ran a software in both KDE and Gnome respectively and it seems both of them have separate displays. By that I mean, one is displaying a part of the string(a Label) and the other is not displaying the string at all. I will include some relevant information such as the software uses SWT kit. Also the string is displayed perfect in Windows. If it's still not clear I will sum it up in a sentence. I am trying to display a label using SWT kit and, its being displayed correctly on Windows, partially correct on KDE(Half of the string) and not displayed on Gnome.

I have tried GridDat.grabExcessHorizontalSpace=true, but it didn't. how to approach the problem otherwise?

Fedora Security :: Print - SELinux Is Preventing Access To Files With The Default Label - Default_t

Mar 13, 2009

I went to print something and I get this message: Summary: SELinux is preventing access to files with the default label, default_t.

Detailed Description: SELinux permission checks on files labeled default_t are being denied. These files/directories have the default label on them. This can indicate a labeling problem, especially if the files being referred to are not top level directories. Any files/directories under standard system directories, /usr, /var. /dev, /tmp, ..., should not be labeled with the default label. The default label is for files/directories which do not have a label on a parent directory. So if you create a new directory in / you might legitimately get this label.
