Fedora :: When Logging In To My User Account In 12 - ICEauthority ?
Jan 30, 2010
When logging in to my user account in Fedora 12 i686 i received an error message "Could not update ICEauthority file". The file in question is in /home/janne/.
I can get into the system but several programs do not respond.
I have a windows install with linux installed within the windows system using WUBI. I attempted to change the user folder and after logging off I received a err message regarding /home/XXX/.ICEauthority. I am using ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
I recently installed Ubuntu 11.04 with Unity as the default desktop environment, but I wanted Gnome 3 instead. So the installation of Gnome 3 and Gnome Shell went through, and I'm presented with a nice "gnomeish" gdm, but when I type my user password and try to log in all I get is this:
Code: Could not update ICEauthority file /home/pontus/.ICEauthority And all I can click is a button that logs me out.
I've tried from the terminal to change owner and rights and I've even tried to delete the file, but I still get this dialog every time I log in.
My install of 11.4 has been running perfectly for for several weeks now. But- (always a but) today it started acting up. I cannot log in to any user account including Root after logging out. After a cold boot I can log in again anywhere but after logging out I have to reboot again then I can get back in to any account once. After logging out any attempted log in causes the splash screen to blank for a few seconds and then it comes back with the previous successful user name log in but typing in the password blanks the screen a few seconds again. Clicking on a user account also blanks the screen a few seconds and then it again comes back with the previous log in users name.
I am setting up a freeipa2 server (both fedora 15), and I was able to get the ipa-client-install to work perfectly (as far as I know) by yum excluding libcurl and curl. If I run kinit brad, I can authenticate and that works aswell.
But when I want to login as me through gdm, I get "Could not update ICEauthority file /home/brad/.ICEauthority" granted the home folders do not exist as this would be my first ever login.
I am currently replacing a windows computer lab to fedora, and have got eveything else ready to go.
I have installed 9.10 on a Dell laptop internal drive. My problem is that I am getting the error:
Code:
Could not update ICEauthority file /home/holocene/.ICEauthority then after hitting enter I get:
Code:
There is a problem with the configuration server. (/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)
How do I get this user and files functioning again?
What I did:
1. Installed ubuntu
2. got wireless/mail/other things working and used them for a couple days.
3. Decided my password was too short (insecure) and changed it. I used the GUI tool on the admin screen called Users, I think it is called.
4. restarted my laptop later, and got these messages.
I have googled extensively about this error, and it seems there is no good explanation as to how to get my user "holocene" back as a functioning user account. I have been able to setup another user using the recovery console but this is not a satisfying compromise.
I've updated my password some days back and when I restarted my machine I got error messages stating...
1. Could not update ICEauthority file /home/username/.ICEauthority it gives me only xClose tab and when I click it I get another error message saying...
2. There is a problem with the configuration server.
(/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256) xClose and the last message which i get says that...
3. Nautilus could not create the required folder "/home/username/Desktop".Before running Nautilus, please create the following folder, or set permissions such that Nautilus can create it.
Now every time when I restart my machine I've to follow this procedure...
1. I select my username and then login using xterm.
2. I give command ecryptfs-mount-private and give another password to mount it (it's not taking my regular password)
3. After doing this it takes me back to the login screen and allow me to log in normally...
I've just installed Ubuntu 10.04 onto my system and have been getting an error message right after i enter my password to login "Could not update ICEauthority file /home/jimmy/.ICEauthority" I can close this and everything seems to work fine. I have no idea as to why i get this error and how do i get rid of it. I tried using one of the suggestions and entered the command
Code:
sudo chown jimmy:jimmy .ICEauthority
got an input/output error for this I've checked the permissions using the following command
Code:
ls -l home/jimmy/.ICEauthority
got the following output
-rw------- 1 jimmy jimmy 0 2010-12-18 22:55 /home/jimmy/.ICEauthority
2.Could not update ICEauthority file /home/superuser/.ICEauthority3.there is a problem with configuration server.(/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256).nautilus could not create the following required folders./home/superuser/desktop,/home/superuser/.nautilus. *before running nautilus, please create these folders, or set permissions such that nautilius can create them*5.GConf error: no database available to save your configuration: Unable to store a value at key '/apps/nautilus/preferences/clutter_Test: As the configuration server has no writable databases. There are some common causes of this problem: then the long list I am on my mobile phone..
First I would like to say I learned my lesson by being high on curosity! I believe I was goofing around with systems-users-advance systems and one of the drop downs I submitted root. Proceeding this path it lead me to a tricky question about transfering old files to a new home or something, but it will also delete the old files on my old home idk maybe two gconf ( read the username)
2) Then followed by : "There is a problem with the configuration server. (/usr/lib/libgconf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status-256)"
3) Then followed by : "Nautilus could not create the following required folders: /home/ian/Desktop, /home/ian/.nautilus. Before running Nautilus, please create these folders, or set permissions such that Nautilus can create them"
1. I have tried changing the permissions of the /home/ian/.ICEautority folder (as here) :-
Code: sudo chown ian:ian /home/ian/.ICEauthority sudo chmod 644 /home/ian/.ICEauthority No luck. (Even tho this thread states it worked!)
When Ubuntu boots, I get the following message:"Could not update ICEauthority file /home/jim/.ICEauthority" After I dismiss this message, I get "There is a problem with the configuration server.(usr/lib/libgconf-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256" Then the desktop fails to start.
in my terminal : sudo chmod 700 /home now ,i can not enter my os.when i open os : could not update iceauthority file /home/pt/.iceauthority. how can i do?
I am using Ubuntu 9.10. I currently have two users myself and my wife. Yesterday morning when I tried to log in I receive the following messages:
"Could not update ICEauthority file /home/david/.ICEauthority" then "There is a problem with configuration server /usr/lib/libgonf2-4/gconf-sanity-check-2 with status 256" and finally "Nautilus could not create the following required folder /home/david/Desktop/.nautilius"
I searched the forum and followed some stuff about chmod 755 for the gconf file etc but still have the same problem. My wife can still log in with no problem by the way.
My X server restarts as soon as I log in as a regular user. Root user has access. I can log in both root and normal user in terminal and over SSH. I tried rebuilding and installing the proprietary NVIDIA driver, as it builds it's own config file for X. I've had no previous problems with X on this system. The last major change to the system before the last log out was the installation of MCNP5. MCNP5 was installed under the regular user; no root privledges were needed.
I have a problem with the Google search box top right corner in Konqueror, when entering search I recieve an error page "Unsupported Protocol" Google asks for ioslave or kioslave. Also when highlighting text on a page and right clicking with the mouse no search option is given. I created a new user and all works as it should for the new user. What is wrong with my user account? I have reset default values in Konqueror setup.
I am looking to send emails from cron for backup information. However, all the programs I have found (mail, mutt) require the password in plain text. Does anyone know of a more secure method? In fact, if it is only sending, is there a way to do this without logging into an account? What is the simplest way, without making it check emails too?
I need to write a bash script that will allow me to manage my "virtual network" (in reality just a bunch of directories and files). I need to obtain something like : I have my own command 'connect'. We can use it in two different modes: user and admin. If I type 'connect adashiu virtual_machine_name, computer will ask about password, if password is correct he will change a prompt to :
adashiu_at_virtual_machine_name >
after that user can start to use commands reserved only for user mode. Analogically with admin mode: prompt 'admin >' and administrator can only use bunch of commands reserved for him. changing prompt and separated commands for user and admin ?
I just tried to change a user account by changing its name, password, and home directory. But first I had created a new account with the new name, pass, home directory. I tried to log into the new account but got a dead account. Nothing came up, and it didn't allow anything, complaining about "can't create Nautilus," and other such error messages.
Tried to go into the Constantine login screen and put in "root" and the original password. "Invalid Use..." Tried "root" with the new pass. "Invalid..." So what can I do at this point to get in and create a nice, clean, new account (with admin privs) for the new user?!
How can I add a user? I used the command "useradd -m <username> -p <password> but I cannot login to this account. It says " Authentication Failure". I want a single Command to Add user with password.
Our requirement is to create multiple user account with UID:-
/tmp/users.txt rohit guna samsir
like this 100 user names in /tmp/users.txt file
/tmp/uid.txt 2001 3789 1000134 like this 100 UID's in /tmp/UID.txt file
The script should take input from both the files and create user account. for example user account rohit should have an UID of 2001 and user samsir should have an UID of 1000134.
I created an account using the following command:#useradd -g developers john and successfully changed the user password with:#passwd johnThe user is unable to login using the New Password using SSH. As a root I can login (#su - john) with no problem.
I am a new Linux user and have a question about the administrative authentication. When I am logged in as a user and I need to do something that requires root privileges the little password window comes up and I enter the root password. My question is how long are the root privileges granted for?I noticed that a few minutes after finishing checking out the firewall configuration tool and closing the window that I was still able to re-enter the fire wall tool and other administrative tools. How do I log out of the root privileges without logging out and then back into my account?
If I'm getting good at anything with Fedora, it would be making mistakes. I have Fedora 12 installed and it was running fine until I attempted to set the path in bashrc and cshrc for jdk. Now I am unable to login using the only user account I created at install. When I enter my password the login screens goes blank then my mouse pointer appears with the circling dashed loading symbol for a few secs and then brings me back to the login screen asking for my password again.
