Fedora :: What Is SNet Sensor Mgmt Running On Port 10000

Feb 9, 2011

I searched a bit on the 'snet-sensor-mgmt' but I couldn't make sense of what it is for. Why is it running? and does it have to be on port 10000? I am thinking of installing webmin, but that port is taken. Fedora 14.

OpenSUSE :: Yast2 - Software Mgmt Parsing Error On Start

Mar 31, 2010

I haven't been able to locate this cause. The problem developed as follows:

1. Used a downloaded .ymp file to add a community package, chose NOT to add the repo permanently from the Customize button... installation of package failed.
2. Added the repo manually in Yast Software Repositories and it went thru the process without error, BUT the repo never appeared in the list. (this is where i think the problem lies)
3. Tried to add the package using .ymp package without blocking the new repo addition... package installed successfully. Then deleted the repo using Yast Software Repositories gui.

Now starting Yast Software Management the process starts and downloads the repo.xml files from each enabled repo, then displays a error msg stating "Parsing Error". Dismiss and it loads the normal interface and seems to work properly from then on.

Red Hat / Fedora :: Netcat / Port Redirection - When A Connection Is Received On A Port Say 123?

Apr 6, 2010

i am running ncat (netcat's new version from nmap) on centos . I am listening on different ports. My question is , is it possible that when a connection is received on a port say 123, i redirect this connection to a different port and use the 123 port again for listening connections. ncat has an option -k which u can add with -l , it will force fully listen on the port. It can accept multiple connections on a single port but i want that once a client connects on to 123 port, he is forwarded to some other port and no longer on 123.

Ubuntu Servers :: Ssh Is Running But Port 22 Not Open

Jul 10, 2010

I have two computers on a LAN. (This is history not a Bazaar question, although I have one of those too) One of them (Ubuntu 9.04) Im using as a Bazaar repository over sftp. Its been working fine for about a year. Then we had a thunderstorm that knocked out our Internet service for a couple of days. When it came back up everything is working fine accept I could no longer commit to the server. A little detective work showed that ssh was not running on the server. I started it and Bazaar then couldnt find the repository files. I still suspected an ssh problem, but port scans from both computers showed port 22 open on the server and I could do a ssh login from the client ok. Then I started fiddling with ssh on the server and now I have ssh problems on top of the Bazaar problems.

On the server I deleted then regenerated the ssh keys. Ive done
sudo /etc/init.d/ssh reload
sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start

I get a normal starting message and ps ef |grep ssh

shows /usr/sbin/sshd running. But the port scan does not show 22 open and I get connection refused at the client.

src port: pipe_server(2010)
dest port: pipe_server(2010)

More information related how send packets : I use raw sockets. I don't specify ports.Does the kernel fill the src and dest ports for me? Do all machines have a port 2010 that will listen for UDP packets?

Networking :: Dhclient Running On Disconnected Ethernet Port?

Nov 8, 2010

I have a simple server running Ubuntu Server. Usually the server connects to the network by Wifi, so there is usually no cable connected to the Ethernet port. I noticed that there is a dhclient3 running on eth0 anyway. It is causing undesirable disk activity. Obviously, it is never going to get a response as long as no cable is connected. I can kill the responsible process manually, but I wonder first what is starting the process and how I can prevent it from being started. If there is a way to get the server to boot without starting this process, I wonder whether this is the right solution. Connecting to the network by Ethernet is the failsafe when Wifi doesn't work. I guess what I would like to see would be a way for the server to detect when eth0 does not have a cable connected and not start dhclient in that case, but to activate dhclient when a cable is connected.

Ubuntu :: Displace A Serial Port To Another Computer Running Windows XP (sharing)?

Sep 1, 2011

I have a need to displace a serial port from one Linux computer to another computer running Windows (XP.) I am running Heyu on a Linux machine in a closet. The power leg for that circuit cannot let the X10 communication reach most of the rest of the house. Where it does work, is from my office but there I am running XP computers only.

I would like to plug the CM11A into my XP computer, share it's serial port and have the home automation computer (running Heyu and Linux) use the LAN to get to the XP serial port without Heyu knowing it is not a local port. Has anyone done this? Can I share a serial port in XP? Can I get Linux to map a serial port to a virtual one on another machine?

Ubuntu :: Display Info On CPU Temp & Other Sensor Information?

Dec 17, 2010

Is there a Linux application which can display motherboard and CPU sensor information and which also satisfies one other, absolutely key, requirement: It should be directly usable, after installation, by a reasonably intelligent computer application user. That is, it does NOT require deep internal knowledge of specific hardware or obscure system software customisation. It does not require hours, days or weeks of reading of documentation which is so crafted as to be the antithesis of end-user guides. It must be capable of being invoked easily.

This eliminates all software that the Ubuntu Software Centre lists when performing a search with the term 'sensors', with the exception of xsensors. All other software listed with this search installs without error but is then totally invisible to me - not even listed under 'installed software'. I am aware a key requirement to be a Linux developer is an advanced commitment to play games of 'I bet I can make my software harder to use than yours', but I'm too old for that now. I don't have a need to prove how technically capable I am.

Xsensors installs and tells me where it can be found, but is inadequate as it lists only 2 CPU core temperature readings. It does not give me any indication of motherboard temperature or fan speeds. That's all I want to do - get a simple snapshot of sensor values without having to resort to entering BIOS setup. It's the sort of information that is so easily available using the ASUS-supplied 'asus-probe' software under Windows. Is it possible, given the key requirement previously mentioned?
