View 3 Replieshow do I uninstall Java? Tried with Synaptic and apt-get remove, but uninstalling sun-java6 automatically adds default-jre (openjdk) and uninstalling openJdk automatically installs sun-java ... but I don't want ANY Java on my machine - am I missing something? Already thought I maybe have a package that requires SOME kind of Java, but how do I find out?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble installing mathematica 8 and found this workaround: [URl]..The workaround involves uninstalling Mathematica then installing in a specific way. However I seem to be unable to properly uninstall the program because even after I delete the directories /usr/local/Wolfram and /.Mathematica, after I reinstall, Mathematica is already activated. The activation data must be located somewhere that I haven't removed.
Is there a general way to remove all trace of a program installed by a .sh file? Alternatively, are there any common locations I could look for this data? I don't really understand the meaning of all the 3-letter directories like "usr" and "etc", where these things seem to be installed. I am running Ubuntu 10.10, if that's relevant.
I downloaded Java from the Java website, and went into the root to try and make it an executable file, and it says "chmod: cannot access `home/Non-Admin/Downloads/jre-6u25-linux-i586-rpm.bin': No such file or directory". Is there some sort of program I can install that will automatically turn the rpm.bin/.bin into an executable file?

Now I want to know how to use these files to uninstall the software?
I have three questions regarding software updates 1. Is there a why to remove or uninstall several updates simultaneously?2. Is there a way to remove or unistall updates withouth knowing their package names?3. Is there a list or log showing which updatesave been applied?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI made quite a bit of partitions of different Linux distributions in an attempt to compile a massive program. (To those who do a bit of weather research, I'm trying to compile both WRF and WPS on 64 bit Linux.) I finally compiled the program on 64 bit Fedora 14, and now I'm running out of space on this partition. Is there a way to increase the size of a partition without uninstalling the current OS? I don't mind what happens to the other partitions, but I put quite a bit of effort in this current one. Also, the program demands that all of the data be contained in the same home directory, so I can't keep files in other partitions.

View 2 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to select different flash plugins to use (e.g. the Adobe one, one of the open source ones) without having to uninstall the one you don't want to use at the moment and install the one you do want to use? I know this exists for Java with the alternatives command - does it exist for Flash?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed the proprietary nVidia driver on my Fedora 14 x86_64 laptop, but then went back to the nouveau driver. Now System Monitor won't launch. From the command line I get:
$ ksysguard
ksysguard: error while loading shared libraries: libnvidia-tls.so.260.19.21: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I reinstalled it, which went without error, but I still get the same error as above. I also tried installing libnvidia-tls, but yum just said there is no such package. Of course, the package is part of the nVidia proprietary driver package, but I don't want to reinstall that. I have the KDE desktop installed, but normally I boot to Gnome. How can I get ksysguard to run again?
the program short-cuts(application pane) appears even after un-installing the program, how to remove the icons?

i'm running out of disk space (don't have bucks to purchase external hard disk .. otherwise i wouldn't have cared .. also don't have time to do a reinstallation of ubuntu/some other os (may be fedora) on my laptop ...
i just got 24 GB left .. i intend to store a few more movies and songs .. i would run out of disk space fairly quickly ... 8GB would be buffer if i get it back ...
Now I would like to uninstall it and use Windows XP instead. But when booting from the winxp disk, the only partition I can see, is the flash drive I am installing from. I was told to uninstall grub, but the fixmbr command doesn't do anything for me.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed Keytouch in a useless attempt to allow me to brighten my screen (but that's another thread...) and now the control keys don't work. I tried a couple of files that were supposed to be my keyboard, but neither worked. I don't want to mess with it any more, but I can't figure out how to uninstall it!
View 7 Replies View RelatedI was encountering a problem with tcsh/csh on FC 10 and decided to uninstall SELinux coreutils through the package manager. The process took quite long and when it was about to finish the screen started blinking and the keyboard was not responding. I rebooted but couldn't restart, the process stucks when the progress bar becomes white! I later tried the live CD and found out that coreutils have been removed too, so I installed them but nothing changed.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've installed yesterday xmms and now I want to uninstall it. I've done it with yum. When I uninstall it like this: "yum remove xmms", then yum removes this package, but, when I check "yum list | grep xmms" I get full list of other packages like bluecurve-xmms-skin.noarch, gkrellxmms2.x86_64, gxmms2.x86_64 , ...
I want to cleanly remove the xmms, so I should remove all this packages "manually"? Is there a method to check wich packages are not used by any program on my computer and remove them? Or any method to remove all packages with a program automatic?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm fighting my way through JAVA. But have hit another wall. Basically I need to to set paths in java so it can set/read files/director for Linux,Mac and windows.
The tutorials I'm using says to do this through the FileSystems class eg
Code:
However this reports it is missing, so a look on line says I need the headers so I set them with
Code:
This gives the following error
This has me totally confused as the tutorial shows this and checking online shows this, do I need to link in libraries or something like that?
I'm using the latest Ubuntu 11.04 and netbeans.
I installed jdk1.6.0_18 version. Please see below for the version.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am a CS major and Iv'e been using vim with a custom rc file to do my editing... A professor suggested we can use kate with terminal for better speed so I thought I would give it a try. Unlike vim, geany, eclipse and others kate does not indent java code, for example after "{ <ENTER>" it should indent to the right 1 tab, but it does not, so I have to press <TAB> every time I go to new like, and I have to go back and forth for different statements...
This does not make things faster at all, Is this even possible? Any other editor suggestions that do not use GTK, but kde native Qt with terminal emulator?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Java program (minecraft server) that needs to be run from the command line. The code is:
Code:
java -Xmx512M -Xms512M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui
To make life easy (i've got the java file in a folder on the desktop) I want to have a shortcut (or similar) sitting on the desktop. I've tried
Code:
ln 'java -Xmx512M -Xms512M -jar minecraft_server.jar nogui' ./../minesraftserver
with single and double quotes but my unix command line skills are pretty basic and this is obviously incorrect.
I have a java.jar (PCGen) that only works correctly if I run it with sudo from the terminal. I have to cd into its directory and run it as
Code:
sudo java -jar pcgen.jar
I would like to use a menu launcher instead of having to use the terminal each time. I tried
Code:
sudo java -jar /path/to/file/pcgen.jar
No luck. This .jar only works properly if ran as root, is there any easy way to do this?
I have bound over the command line all for my work related jar files to my CLASSPATH
and can now execute the command javac HelloRDFWorld.java and there comes noerror messages. I assume javac command can be executed without any problems:
/workspace/JenaTutorial/src/main/java/tutorial$ javac HelloRDFWorld.java
/workspace/JenaTutorial/src/main/java/tutorial$
But there are still one problem; although my java file can run in Eclipse environment without any problems it does not run over the command line:

I am thinking of appending something to each line in a text file with Java. I prefer not write a new file with content appended from the old one. That 'something' would probably be Time Stamp when the file is created (which is same for each line).I am not sure Java provide some easy way for it or not
