Hardware :: Need Sound From Fedora 14 Install With Creative Soundblaster 5.1 Live Card
Feb 12, 2011I install a copy from an iso of Fedora 14 on a old Dell Computer with some upgrades not prepriatary hardware. One of the hardware problems I am having is getting my Creative Soundblaster 5.1 Live card to work with Fedora 14. I have been looking for a driver and as of yet have not found one that works well. Do you have any suggestions regarding this so I can do some site development on this machine.

May 17, 2010So I recently upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 and then to 10.04, and I love it!
But there's only one key problem -- sound playback.
When I'm playing an mp3 file in rhythmbox, or any other player, it'll skip when I maximize or minimize windows, or do anything that really uses resources.
And on top of that, if I just let it keep going, it'll eventually just stop playing the song, and the progress bar will jump forward and do the same for other songs, not even playing them.

I've deduced that it's probably a sound driver thing. I've downloaded the driver for my card, but I the directions tell me to install it in
/usr/src/linux/driver/sound

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Sound Is Staticky / Skips If Click Other Windows?
Mar 21, 2010In the sound preferences if i set the sound to ALSA sound skips like a scratched CD when i move, maximize, open, close window. If i set the sound to PulseAudio sound skips on everything (vlc ,banshee)except Totem.
On both of these options Banshee is rendered totally unusable. If i set the sound to ESD, than VLC and Banshee work fine though VLC still skips a little bit though less than before. Totem however will no longer be able to play most of the files it could before without extreme unbarable static. Though some files it will still play fine.
HOWEVER with all three of these there is no skipping whatsoever when i play sound on ..... videos in the browser whereas if i play the same video in .flv on a media player the same problems persist.. so the browsers seem unaffected
OSS is by far the best in terms of skipping, none whatsoever. However OSS has a constant steady crackle behind anything that is playing. The crackle is low but still irritating and the crackling makes my ears ring after but i can still listen to music and just try my best to ignore it much like listening to a radio station that barely comes in. So how do i either to stop the static behind OSS... or stop the skipping with ALSA and Pulse, or stop the crackling in ESD or OSS??

Oct 12, 2010i just installed a new Ubuntu 10.10, but i have no sound at all. I google-d for my problem, but i cant find any fix. In sound preferences - everything look great and working - there is my X-fi Xtreme audio CA0110-IBG, and i can choose how many channels to use, but when i go to test button, there are no sound from any channel. I got 5.1 sound system, and i use Flexijack for mic. Im confused, because everything looks like working - the system recognises my sound card, but there no sound at all. I tried to kill pulseaudio, but it not help me.

I installed the gmplayer front end and I just get that but no video or sound, video won't play.

Oct 22, 2010here's some background info: purchased a brand new netbook last week (samsung n130) and thought i'd set up a dual-boot to accompany the pre-installed windows xp sp3, and after a bit of research i decided upon installing ubuntu as my preferred linux os, which i believe at the time was and still is version 10.10.
but the problem is: when i attempt to watch flash videos (from videos for example) the video streams fine, but the audio is very jumpy and skips back and forth every few seconds. occasionally there are periods of say 10-15 seconds where the audio is ok. the problem exists on both firefox and chrome, and is exclusive to ubuntu. keep in mind that i'm an absolute novice when it comes to linux/ubuntu, etc.

Fedora Hardware :: 13 Does Not Use Front Speakers On SoundBlaster Audigy 2 With 5.1 Setup
Jun 19, 2010I have a soundblaster audigy 2 connected to 5.1 speakers. The setup was working perfectly with Fedora 11.
I recently upgraded to Fedora 13 and found that it will only play through the center channel, the subwoofer, and the rear channels. The front speakers don't work.
I've tried all possible 5.1 configurations in the "Hardware" section of the "Sound Preferences" dialog. I've also played with the "PulseAudio Volume Control" tool (which seems to have the same functionality).
I also disabled all other sound devices on the system just in case.

Apr 7, 2010I've searched upon numerous links for a "fix" but they are either for older releases of fedora, or, I was able to make appropriate changes to the F12 KDE4 release such as the F11 how to fix pulseaudio and vlc guide in this forum
Problem: In order to get the sound to play on my system I have to go to PulseAudio Device Chooser and select default server,sink, etc. every login. I thought it was suppose to change it "permanently" , getting more specific here, when ever I play music in vlc I tend notice gaps/skips in my music very short skips .5 to 1 second sometimes 2 - 3, just now I was playing music flipping through some tracks then I am greeted with a nasty sound I cannot describe. Does anyone have a proper fix for this? Only result I came upon I have not tried yet was something with hda intel sound card and power settings, which feel will not work anyway

General :: LMDE Skips Grub When Restarting?
Jun 21, 2011I am running LMDE with xfce desktop version 4.8.0 and Windows 7 on a sony vaio. Everything works fine except for one minor inconvenience... When I am using xfce and want to reboot to windows, I have to click shutdown,turn the computer off then back on to get to the grub menu. If I click restart, it reboots back into xfce without ever showing the grub menu.

Mar 20, 2011I've just bought an Asus U31f and installed openSUSE 11.4 64bit on it.
There are no problems with the mouse and mousepad at first when I boot up, but after a while it starts to skip and jump around, and will hardly move vertical at all (allthough it is very eager to move sideways).
The touchpad also becomes overly sensitiv, as I can move the arrow from side to side while holding my finger 0,5 cm above the touchpad, as seen here: [URL]
The weird things is that it can work fine for several hours, and the suddenly turn evil.

Dec 5, 2010I migrated to 10.04 (clean install) from 9.10 recently. I have no problems with internal sound card playback but cannot get the USB Creative Audigy Optical port working. I have defined it as Digital Output in Pulse Audio and when an application plays audio I can see Pulse Audio showing output but no output from the Audigy.
I would appreciate if anyone has come across this problem and if so could give some pointers to fix this issue.
Debian :: Video Clips Not Playing - Plugins Required?
Jun 20, 2010After using Ubuntu for about 18 months (and trying out a few others) I have started to use Debian (Lenny) more and more. I like the fact that it's supposed to be a very powerful and stable distro. When I tried to view a couple of video clips from a website it just won't play, though. Other distros play 'out of the box' but perhaps I need some pointing in the right direction from the more experienced Debian user! I installed MPlayer but that hasn't made any difference. I also downloaded Flash for Linux, which installed without problems. What I need to do? Plug-ins required etc?

I have a Dell XPS 720 with a Creative Labs Soundblaster X-Fi extreme Gamer Soundcard. But when I tried to set the Sound-Preferences, I got the following error message:"audiotestsrc wave=sine freq=512 ! audioconvert ! audiosample ! gconfaudiosink: Could not open audio device for playback."By now I know, why the system is unable to open the device, because during the installation of Debian (Lenny) the system recognized another "sounddevice", which is called SP2208WFP. That is my monitor with integrated webcam and microphone. And of course, it doesn't make a noise. So I have disconnected the USB cable to the monitor to avoid an automatic recognition (that costs me 3 important USB plugs) and I tried (now since 3 days) to configure the Sounblaster as the current sound device. But without success. lspci -v shows me, that there is a Soundblaster device:

When I playback Internet web page movies in Firefox they flicker badly. The same movies played in Google Chromium play just fine. What do I do to get Internet films to play fine in Firefox?

I would like to get pulse audio to blast the rear left and right channels through the sound blaster usb card and the other channels through the AC97 card built into my mobo (I think its ac97, anyway it works right now). I would like a real 5 channel experience using two different sound cards. If there is delay, can I adjust for it?
