Fedora Servers :: KVM Baloon Memory - Auto Resize?

Oct 17, 2010

I'm looking at the Memory settings in virt-manager, and it seems that the Maximum allocation setting implies that the assigned memory for the VM can expand up to that amount (e.g. 512MB). Currently I have 128MB set as the change allocation, which is reported in the VM, and 512MB as the maximum allocation. If I fill up a tmpfs ramdisk past 128MB, the VM kills all new processes until I force the current allocation to 512MB and unmount the ramdisk. I can then return the assigned memory to 128MB. I'm hoping that there's a tool that I'm overlooking that will automatically increase and decrease the amount of memory within the maximum setting.

Ubuntu :: Inactive Swap Memory After Resize?

Apr 20, 2011

I used Gparted to resize the swap area, and doing so changed the UUID so now the swap memory is not activated automatically and hibernation is also inactive. i got some info about this in a previous thread, which became inactive, and could not fix the problem.the output of sudo blkid is:Quote:

OpenSUSE :: Auto Resize Window When Moved To The Sides ( KDE )?

Apr 7, 2010

I used linux for a long time now, mostly ubuntu-based distros but these days I decided to try openSUSE. Must say, It is a really nice distro, with lots of new features. There is one that I never seen before but I admit it is very useful: the auto resize window feature. I use the 11.3 (KDE) (milestone 4) version. Just wanted to ask if this is a package for ths or is hard-coded into the system? And is it KDE-specific?

Ubuntu :: How To Disable Window Auto Resize In Unity

Like, if I drag a window to the top of the screen, somehow this is supposed to mean I want the window full screen. Screw that if I wanted it full screen I'd have clicked the button on the top of the menu. Windows 7 does this too and it just as annoying.

My eyesight is horrible but I want to use more terminal applications. I also use AwesomeWM for tiling, so windows resize frequently. Also on the short list are cut/paste by keyboard and good support for launching links.

Ubuntu :: Unity - Unable To Resize Launcher Icons Or Set To Auto-hide

May 2, 2011

I recently upgraded to 11.04 and I've been tweaking Unity to get the desktop just the way I like it. I've come across two minor problems though:

1. When I tweak the icon size settings in the Unity tab of CCSM, the icons do not change size; they remain at the default "48" setting regardless of what I type in.

2. When I set the Unity launcher to auto-hide (also in the Unity tab of CCSM), it stays at the default "dodge windows" setting.

Are there any workarounds to change these settings when tweaking them in CCSM's interface does not work? (Or is there some trick I don't know to get CCSM to work properly?)

Fedora Servers :: Libvir: QEMU Error : Out Of Memory?

Jun 11, 2009

Has anyone seen this error in libvirtd?libvir: QEMU error : out of memoryWhatever it is, I'm pretty sure that's what's keeping my virt-manager from working. There's 12GB of DDR3 on this box, so I really really hope that it's not actually a memory problem. This here is a brand-new whitebox I build just for virtualization on F11. Can anyone here help me make it work?

Edit: This is a 64-bit install. All 12GB are accessible by the OS.

OpenSUSE :: Memory Usage 100 Percent - Auto Log Out

Aug 13, 2010

My memory usage keeps building up and up as time goes by, when it hits 100% it logs me out. I have a tad over 9 Gib in swap, that is how it was set up when I did auto install and let it do the partitions. I have 4Gib memory. When I first log in it shows about about 800+ MB being used and starts adding more from there. I can run applications for about 6-8 hours before it hits the 100% marker. At first I was blaming this on the video player, but when I put on a play list each song seems like it gets stuck in memory also adding about .02% per song to max memory.

This seems to pertain to each application I do. Uploaded with ImageShack.us. This pic shows my Computer setting and usage through system monitor and conky script. In another note, I never see my Swap partition being used at all. I am real green to linux and not sure if I was suppose to turn something on. In the partitioner it shows it being mounted and as swap.

Fedora Servers :: Virtual Machine Manager Won't Allow Memory Allocation Over 1024

Jan 26, 2010

I'm running Fedora 11 (2.6.30.10-105.2.4.fc11.i686.PAE) 8 GB memory on a AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 965 Processor, 4 core server I just built. The problem I have run into is any virtual machine that has >1024 MB memory assigned to it will not boot. As along as it has 1024 MB or less it boots fine. The symptom you see is a very quick message "Booting from hard disk" the screen then goes blank, you can't login through SSH, and can't ping the network address so I know it's not some crazy video problem hiding the boot process. The attachment are messages from a failed boot attempt.

Hardware :: Phone And Memory Card Auto Mounting With Write Permissions

Feb 4, 2010

Few weeks ago modified my old mobile phone SE k750i by setting on it w800i firmware. After this my phone isn't really (fully automatically) recognized by Ubuntu (9.10) which is the small problem for me now. Linux recognizes it as a USB device, but doesn't automatically mount it, which is why I have to do that manually and that leads to read only permissions for my user.

Here are the few outputs:

lsusb
Code:
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 046d:c222 Logitech, Inc. G15 Keyboard / LCD
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 046d:c221 Logitech, Inc. G15 Keyboard / Keyboard
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 0fce:d028 Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications AB
Bus 002 Device 003: ID 046d:c018 Logitech, Inc. Optical Wheel Mouse
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 046d:c223 Logitech, Inc. G15 Keyboard / USB Hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
dmesg | grep usb .....

I've tried to create a custom udev rule via this thread, by putting the correct information according to lsusb:

Code:
SUBSYSTEMS=="usb", ATTRS{idVendor}=="0fce", ATTRS{idProduct}=="d028", MODE="0660", OWNER="zivs"
and reloading the udev rules, but that didn't help also.

How could I make my Ubuntu mount the /dev/sdb1 (which is my phone's memory card, since manually mounting it, there's all my phone recorded stuff) automatically on Desktop with all read and write permissions when I connect my phone to computer? Phone gets recognized immediately on Win7 OS ... but after the firmware change it's not really recognized by Ubuntu anymore.

Ubuntu Servers :: Auto Mount Of An Usb Drive?

Sep 1, 2010

I just changed the os on my media server from Windows Home Server to Unbuntu 10.4 server. I got most of it working (samba, twonkymedia)

The only thing i have left to get working is the backup of that server. I installed bacula as i beleive it will do the job (unless someone has a better and simpler to configure idea) and i would like it to backup to my external usb 1Tb hard drive. I am able to mount the drive manually but this server gets turn on and off often to save power (and cut the electric bill) when not in use. I tried adding a line to fstab but when a do that, the server gets stuck on the startup even with the drive turned on. I read somewhere that i should use the UUID of the drive as it could change from sbd1 to sbh1 on restart so i did, same result.

Ubuntu Servers :: Integrate A .pac (Proxy Auto-config) Url?

Aug 26, 2010

What I'm trying to do seems pretty straight forward but I can't seem to find any documentation on this searching the "internets" but I think I'm getting mixed in with all the other proxy documentation.

What I'm trying to do is basically replicate the proxy settings from a desktop machine to a server machine. I have Ubuntu 10.04 Desktop running fine on a corporate network using the Automatic Proxy Configuration option and supplying the appropriate URL that I pulled for a corporate issued windows machine. I would like to do this on Ubuntu server 10.04 as well.

What I've got so far is coping out the proxy information from the .pac file and setting the http proxy value directly but I want to follow the URL so that the system follows any changes that come down the road. how to integrate a .pac (Proxy auto-config) url into ubuntu server?

Ubuntu Servers :: Getting Md Raid To Auto Assemble On Boot

Jun 20, 2011

I have Ubuntu 10.10 (maverick) and I'm using mdadm 3.1.4. I have created a RAID 10 using imsm as the metadata, and this runs successfully if I assemble the RAID from the command line. My question is: How do I get the RAID to auto assemble when I boot the system? I would like to be able to mount the RAID when the system starts up (but the OS is on a separate disk altogether). What I've found out so far is that I must do a Code: update-initramfs -k all -u AFTER I've modified the /etc/mdadm/mdadm.conf file. This is what I've got in my configuration file:

[Code]....

BUT what happens is that when I reboot my server, and then do "ls -l /dev/md*" there is no listing at all for any RAID devices. I actually have to run the assemble command on command line and that is when I see listings for RAID devices under /dev. What am I missing?

Ubuntu Servers :: System Won't Shutdown + Apache Not Auto Starting / Fix It?

Nov 12, 2010

First post here so I'll do my best to provide the information needed.

System:

Dell Poweredge R310
Xeon 3460 2.8Ghz
4x2GB ram
4x 160GB Sata 7.2k (RAID 10)
Ubuntu Server 64bit

If I type as root, "reboot" or "shutdown -r now", nothing happenings - except the apache2 process stops + the usual "System is going down for reboot now". If I type "shutdown -h now" the system goes down.

Upon booting the server back up, MySQL starts correctly, but Apache2 does not - I have to run "service apache2 start", and it starts up fine.

I feel the 2 issues are related. I've reinstalled apache2 completely (configs and all) and this didn't help - I used yum to install/reinstall it.
